  • So I am nearly finished the build of the Tenere 660 and thought it a good time to do the weight and lean value and also to have a quick run through of the build.

    Thank you for sharing this beauty. I love this bike and wish that is available in the USA. The color is amazing too and just adding gold rims to it will make it a UNICORN 🦄🦄

    Of the 50 odd bikes I've owned my white 660 Z is in the top three.
    It is my favourite bike to tour on, comfortable, good view afforded by the enormous seat height, 300 mile range, adequate off road, and you're not doing a 100 mph all day long, which these 170 bhp Adventure bikes tempt you into.

      @@bigals.ktms.9937 Yeah its surprising isn't it how u can go on an ultralight adv bike. Found the 390 great fun and very versatile. 660 is definitely only a touring bike

    @PetterIvarsson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting! I also have one and like the motor and comfort. But it is damn heavy and I also found that it is not comfortable on the highway over 100 km/h so thinking of a 690 instead because I dont want to bikes. Do you think the 690 will work on the highway for an hour or two to get to the dirt?

    • @dirtbikeadv
      @dirtbikeadv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Peter thats a million dollar question. The 690 will do it and has a smoother engine but its just not as comfortable. Skinnier seat and depending on the tower u have u are up in the wind a little bit more. The 660 does have a more upright seating position and is a touring bike. The 690 is a dual sport and comes into its own once the trails get technical

    Thats a damn pretty bike there mate! I'm planning to obtain myself this Tenere as well and want to outfit it in 'retro theme'. So blue and yellow as yours. Aparently you've succeded in painting these plastic guards and covers on the side and back as well. Can you briefly eleborate on how you did that...? Does the paint actually hold on? does it need some profound primer? And most of all, what is the brand/ colour code of the paint?? I'm probably gonna buy the blue one to begin with, so its a matter of finding the matching paint off course... would be great if you can help me out here, thanks in advance!!

    • @dirtbikeadv
      @dirtbikeadv  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fritzy, Sorry for delay in getting back to you I wanted to reply on my laptop too much text for a phone.
      Love the sound of a retro Tenere they were such an iconic bike. Hoping to get my self a T700 one day and do a retro theme on that as well. So the 660 I had was already painted on the grey panels when I bought it and while they had done a reasonable job it was peeling in some places and the colour match was not perfect. They had not used a primer and this was the reason it was peeling. Modern epoxy primers will stick to anything and if I was you I would go to a panel beaters paint shop and get them to suggest a suitable primer. These epoxy primers are great to work with, are easy to sand and give good depth. I think you will find the colour code for the bike on the VIN plate.... I think.
      Really sorry I couldn't be of more use mate :(
      Regards Steve

      @@dirtbikeadv Haha, no worries mate. And thanx for your quick reply! Ok, good advice, i'll dive into the world of epoxy primers... Although... Since I just bought a silver version 2013 model, I'm concidering this wrapping technique by now, should give good results. The remaining quest is for the authentic colour code of the Tenere blue of the mid/late 80's. You know what I mean... on the side, I'm Dutch: what's a VIN plate...? kind regards!

    Ive got one and had it for the last 4 years. Put 30000 klm on it. Yeah they are old school, only 5 speed box, and the HP is not that exciting. Ive ridden mine from vic to darwin, then back via qld.. They can crunch miles and miles and take decent weight given the sturdy steel frame and lump of an engine. For the quick stuff my WR450F fits that need.

      Hi Dan
      Yeah your comments are spot on. With the drive line mods I've done it has helped the drive line a lot. Took for a test ride last night and it really felt like it had more power with the lower gearing. From my limited experience so far your right big trips and touring will be great fun. Second bike works for me as well

      @@dirtbikeadv good evening ! , my friend did not know that you had these motorcycles in your country . what state is it in the USA? here in brazil unfortunately we only have this version and the 1200cc, we wanted the 700cc to come to Brazil but I think only in about 10 years. I really liked the new painting of the plastic parts and the exhaust tip, I'm going to leave mine like this!. just a question: what year is your tenere and what value is there in your country? here in Brazil it is R$ 33,000.00 thousand reais or U$ 6,000.00. Friend, my English is terrible so I'm sorry if I write it wrong.
      I couldn't identify which country you live in, but I really like your bike and I'm buying one this month. unfortunately here in Brazil we have a lot of taxes, I am a mechanic and I like to make my modifications to my bikes but the value of parts and tools here is very high, preventing and making it very difficult.
      but congratulations on the motorcycle I really enjoyed the style and landscape of your videos.

      @@cachorroplayers430 Hi I am actually from Australia in one of the southern states Victoria. My bike is a 2010 model so I bought it second hand. It is a Tenere XT660Z. They bought lots of these into Australia and they were very popular. They didn't send them to USA at all for some reason. You pay about $8000 to $10,000 for one of these bikes with reasonably low KMs. That is about $6000 to $7000 $USD.
      Your English is fine my friend and glad you enjoyed the video

      Hi Kev nah the front is an Anakie Wild which is really good but probably 50/50 tyre. The rear is a Motoz Tractionator Rally Z which again is rely good. It's probably a 80/20 offroad/road tyre. Again really good tyre both on and off the road. Both tyres on the bike when I bought it so got a set of Dunlop 606's ready to on for a big trip coming up. There has been supply issues with a lot of the tyre brands here in Australia so I just grabbed a set of 606's cause they were in stock. Supply is getting back to normal now so Keen to try some other brands
