Bluegill are something special and very underrated. They were some of the first fish that I caught as a kid and I still enjoy fishing them today as an adult. Whether you catch them casting from the shore, casting from a boat and putting your line in the water right next to the boat, there's always that bit of excitement seeing that bobber sink and setting the line to hook a monster bluegill. Much respect by letting the over-sized ones go. That helps to keep the population strong and ensures fishing for these fish for years to come :)
@Naseeb Fahahrim Yea they are (except my first fish was a white bass). I hate it when people say that bluegill are just these stupid little fish that bite anything and steal your bait.
I know! It’s like shooting does in deer season. There’s no easier species to catch or clean if you want meat in the freezer. Limits are high and worms are cheap.
Bluegill are probably the most underrated freshwater fish in North America. People think that because they are smaller, they are a trashy bait fish. They are a blast to fish for! If you can get some nice sized Bluegill they fight like hell! They're easy to catch, and are great eating!!!!!
@stonewall Jackson That is true. Bluegill are fun fish to catch when you’re not catching anything all day or to start your day but I’d rather catch bigger fish like bass, trout, and salmon
Everybody I know is to proud to go bluegill fishing. They say it’s for kids. Drives me insane because I prefer to catch bluegill for the fun and to eat. Guys fish all day over a bass but I like to reel in bluegill one after another lol. I get bored real quick trying to catch bass. Bluegill to big to keep?? Wtf lol 😂
Generally the bigger the fish is, the less appealing its meat will be, as well as better breeding fish for sustaining the population. It may be more fun or impressive to land a big fish, but I would take a plate of fillets cut from little guys over big ones any day.
Ya, I only keep gills that are 5” or less. Anything bigger needs to go back immediately and as gently as possible. I like to eat the smaller ones raw and whole. I like the way they pop when I bite into them. I can count to fire trucks 🚒
My paw paw always loved the small ones. Scale em back with a spoon, gut em, shake in a ziploc with some fish fry, throw in some hot oil. Ketchup optional. Sure do miss my paw paw.
I use 10 pound line for Bluegill, couple years back I had a 1 pound Bluegill break my 6 pound line, luckily I managed to scoop the fish up before it got away.
Excellent fishing when catching bluegill shellcrakers use four pound test you’ll hook big bass too ultralight rod.. jig’s nothing better as far as I’m concerned.. oh and crappies
I need a video on how to catch them. Seems to have small ones where I fish and I cannot get them hooked before they steal my worm. I am using a small bobber. Sometimes the bobber barely moves. Help?
use a small chunk of worm, or make sure once you hook the worm you dont have ends sticking out very far where the fish can get the worm and not the hook. you kinda want to ball the worm up on your hook so when the bluegill bites he gets the hook.
where do you live? where I am winter seems to be coming early and its cold so the big gills are moving deep im sure. when it gets cold the big gills move deep.
@@dominatefishing9641 I live in LA , most of time I fish at ponds and lakes , it's not getting very cold here , but still , they harder to catch now than in a summer time.
JayDaKing 23 welcome to the world of fishing I’m not an expert but you could go to any body of water and catch fish I would recommend having a smaller bobber rod and a heavier rod for trout, bass and you know just go on google to find good fishing spots you should also just jump around random ponds Till you find the perfect one good luck 🍀
Karma hey bro sorry I never replied I found some spots here where I live it’s been fun still learning on types of bait and stuff thanks for the great advice
damn I haven't caught a fish since I was like 7 (im 18 atm) I try every year and its just no luck. But good luck to everyone's fishing trips in the years ahead!
You should put some bread on a hook. Don’t smoosh it on or it’ll sink. Then cast it as far as you can go using only a hook and bread, no weights or bobbers. Then thrown some small pieces of bread right next to your hook. Make sure to splash when you throw the bread in. And be careful with the bread on your hook, it can come off very easily. I caught 7 in 20 minutes with this method today. Hope this helps!
Not trying to be condescending, but is there a reason why you cast a spinning rod that way? Has noone ever taught you the correct way to cast one? Just curious?
A 14-foot piece of bamboo with a 14-foot line, and a smashed snail taken off a cattail for bait was all I needed to catch a few for my grandma back in 1950??
Do u think that really. We're I'm from in Illinois in New Athens I fished strip my lakes. Bluegill make your eyes pop out. Beautiful clear water u see everything. Catch thing big all day long they also have huge large mouth bass.
Cant seem to catch large bluegill on jig/hook with worm and a bobber, i always catch small ones. I try some artificial plastics and stuff and than i catch nothing.
yea, that can happen... sometimes you really have to sort through them. one of the biggest keys is to be on a lake and on a spot that has big bluegill. a lot of lakes just dont have big bluegill in them.

They are amazingly delicious 😋
I use mostly a 1/16oz rooster tail
The video says 2019. Does this still work in the new update? 😂
😂
I'm pretty sure they still spawn in shallow water
I think the new winter patch changed it lol
Leaches work the best in 2021
still works, they haven’t patched it

thanks! night crawlers, just a small piece.
Any baits on those jigs? or just plain?
Are you putting worms on the jig??
would you say a bluegill/sunfish is the easiest fish to catch?
Just about. The larger ones are harder to find.
do you have to put a worm in those hooks ????
Don't bluegills move to deeper Waters in September?
yes the do on a lot of lakes
