  • Cab view of the Joshin Electric Railway, a private railway that runs through Gunma Prefecture, from Takasaki to Joshu Fukushima.
The Joshin Electric Railway has a total line length of 33.7 km, and this video covers only half of that, 16.7 km.
In this video, there are very few passengers at the stations, which is almost worrying to watch, but the private railway actually opened in 1897, making it one of the oldest private railways in Japan, with a history of over 120 years.
Along the line there are not only residential areas but also idyllic rural landscapes. September 2024

I noticed something in this that I haven't seen in any other of your videos. The catenary doesn't have suspension arms from every post generally on the straighter sections. I've not seen this before on Overhead Line Equipment.

I hadn't noticed the point you made. The overhead wire tensioning method used on this railway is called "simple catenary," which is the standard method for Japanese railways. Also, in straight sections, the overhead wires are not stretched in a straight line parallel to the tracks, but in a zigzag pattern. This is to prevent the same part of the pantograph from wearing out.
However, I don't know anything about the characteristics of the arm shape. I'll pay attention to it from now on. Thank you for your comment.
