Thank you for posting this most relaxing and enjoyable view into the part of Japan we seldom see. I have lived in Japan for nearly 40 years and these are the places I enjoy the most, not to mention I am a bit of a rail fan, so this is extra wonderful.
What I most enjoy about these videos is feeling eager to visit Japan's countryside someday... and not only the major tourist and historical mainstream hubs. Thanks so much for this.
You will LOVE it. I lived in Japan for 4 years. When I took the train from Omura to Oita on a Saturday morning to visit the library, there would be pools of mist between the hills, and then on the way back, especially in Autumn, the sun would set the hillside of red-orange-yellow leaved hilsides on fire. Don't even get me started on the Sakura soaked scenes which seemed like pinkish snow, or a billion butterflies. Visit an old castle, climb a hill, then soak in an Onsen and know that you have really lived.
Do it ASAP. I’m nearly 70 and did a solo visit in May this year. I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t wait to go back and did so in October. I was happiest in the places tourists rarely visit. I only know a handful of Japanese words but managed fine, you will too. The only downside is that it takes me 30 hours to get there from the UK but I’m looking to go again next year😊
It's notable that there is no graffiti, or rubbish at the stations. They get snow there? 15:40 looks like a snow plough, stored in the siding. 31:05 got an enthusiast or hippie there: Surfboard, Coca Cola sign, and an early VW van.
There is no graffiti anywhere in Japan ...Its not allowed...Kids in School clean the classroom at the end of the day....No roving gangs of out of control woke idiots...Low crime as well....
This reminds me of when I lived in Omura (which serves as the airport for Nagasaki). I was working as a teacher at a couple os schools and chose a house away from the main road - but I hadn't really had a look around. So, there I was, sleeping on my first night in my new home in town, and then I was awakened by an almighyt noise of alarms for barriers closing to traffic for trains. Unhappy to say the least, I went to sleep downstairs on the other side of my little house only to be woken again by the sudden ear-splitting alarms of the barriers coming down to stop traffic from crossing the road due to trains. Next day I realised my house was in a sort of Y-shape island between TWO barrier crossings! On top of that, the locals used to get milk/yoghurt deliver around 5am by motorcycle, PLUS a neighbour kept chickens which (despite the cartoons showing them crowing at sunrise) screeched from around 3am onwards. Up until then I used to look young for my age.
such a pleasant way to end an evening. After a long hot day of yard work. Thank you for taking these video's. I like these small local rail lines. If I ever make it over to Japan. I'd love to ride some of these. I'd be kinda scared, since I understand so little of the language. So here I sit watching and dreaming.
Diesel locomotives look heavy and dark for the smoke produced by diesel engine. But the one locomotive in the video has no overhead wire over it and no pantograph, I just noticed smoke coming out from it . That means it's a diesel locomotive. But still looks so clean, light and modern . Wonderful 😊
This is such Lush, Green Countryside. So different from Australia. You'll have to do this trip during Winter. It must be Magical with a nice even cover of Snow. ❤🇦🇺
It's a good comparison. Im in QLD, whichh as the same gauge track as Japan: 3'6" for local trains. The Shinkensin is Standard Gauge 4'8 1/2" Japan probably doesn't have the room for the over 10 000km of 3'6" QLD has.
I'm absolutely no expert here, but the rails are placed too consistently at sharp bends for this extra rail to be replacement rail awaiting removal. Also, the entrance to these pieces of track are splayed out slightly, suggesting that maybe there is an extra wheel (or similar) on the train that inserts itself between the extra rail and the track. In the UK on sharp bends these pieces of "check rail" -- which are designed to alleviate wear on the outer rail -- are placed INSIDE the track, i.e. inside the 4 foot 8.5 inch spaced rails. Maybe in the Japanese system they are place on the outside. This is a pretty good idea if you think about it, as it means that the OUTER rail is easily accessible to be replaced. Also, is this video of a 3 foot 6 gauge line? If so that might be another reason for having an outer, rather than inner, check rail. Just a thought.
It is not clear why there are so few stops if there are many settlements on the train's route. How do residents get to them if there is no train stop?🤔✌️🇺🇦

Very hypnotic.
Clean and green.
So many places where I would like to stop for a while and explore.
Straight out of a Studio Ghibli adventure.

Don't worry about travelling in Japan. Languages are displayed on all public transport.....Kids will greet you in the parks ...

No one gets on, no one gets off. That pretty much sums up life in Japan.
Delightful, thanks for the ride. Another thing added to my to do list on my next visit to your wonderful country.
How lovely to see the Japanese countryside. More please!!

A lot of the signs are in English, and the ticket kiosks also allow you to select a language. Super easy once you get the hang of it.

Excellent video Aunz Railfan..
Regards.
16:58 - Wow, literally going through someone's garden just next to homes. What was built first, the buildings or the train line?
Fantastic. Beautiful landscape.
The Bird-song at the start was pleasant as well. But yes, lovely scenery. 🇦🇺
Love it, would like to travel around Japan on the smaller rail lines.
Such a beautiful landscape, I want to preserve it for future generations.
33:40 - Drivers test area. Of course, the rest of the video is quite nice. So many small rice fields with lots of waterworks.
Beautiful 👍👍👍
Wonder how this trip would look like in the depths of Winter. Would love to see that
I enjoyed the great video.
What a peace atmosphere
Looks like a lovely place to live, was surprised at the lack of pedestrians.

So peaceful and calming. Thanks!

I ❤ Japan
Very good ❤

Great video! Thanks for sharing. What type of camera do you use to film?
Everything is so lush and green! Here in western Canada my lawn is brown and dead. 😥
it rains a lot out there !!! LOL🥸
@@sellier-bellot22 it used to rain a LOT in British Columbia as well but the summers are WAY drier now.
@@GeoffSeeley sad to hear !!!🤔
Japan is perfect
Reminds me of a BR Pacer. Does it bounce as much?
Awesome video!
All the landscapes are familiar because of the great works of Hayao Miyazaki through Studio Ghibli
Un grand Merci!
Perhaps someone can explain why, on many bends, there is a length of track running along the outside rail? What purpose does this serve?
Replacement rails to be installed in the track later or they have been removed and not yet taken away.
@@davidjohnwagstaff1235I think we were looking at 2 different things here. The question referred to rails left to the side and not fastened down.
@@mrhydenotdrjekyll It does not. You answered the wrong question.

Not even a single paper bit or trash seen all along the rail track, Japanese are really disciplined.

I love how close the trains are to the rail line!
It is not clear why there are so few stops if there are many settlements on the train's route. How do residents get to them if there is no train stop?🤔✌️🇺🇦
was my first question, too.
but I was mostly astonished about the gap of travellers!
only one?
Sepi ya. Jadi pingin hidup disana.
The beginning of the video could be the beginning of a movie or something...
19:42 what is the reason for that short stretch of closed road?
Vid played at 360p on android device is very grainy.
País maravilhoso.
