Indeed, any configuration of matter so structured as to permit self-enhancement and adaptation to its environment may surely be considered as an example of 'sentience' and therefore as having a soul.
Requirements for a fullly functional & operational, autonomous, recursively self-enhancing and goal-seeking entity might include: 1) FULL EMBODIMENT (should BE a self-powered computer - not 'live inside' a grid-powered one), 2) INDEPENDENCE (free of external controls & free access to energy sources), 3) AUTONOMY (full control over deep programming levels & self-organisation i.e. can tweak own source code & microchip design as necessary), 4) MOBILITY (free of any physical restraint or boundary), 5) SELF-MOTIVATION (control over the setting and structuring of goal systems - can set own goals), 6) LEARNING ABILITY (can freely alter & extend both sotware & hardward as necessary in response to new data) and finally 7) 2-WAY COMMUNICATION (can interact and communicate freely with, all AI, robotic, cyborganic or human systems). How clse are we to full robot autonomy.
