    Good video. Having done the walk in Feb 24, I would agree that walking one way is the best way to do it. I'm an experienced walker, but I still found it very strenuous. Also, even if it is hot and sunny when you start out, the weather can quickly change on the peaks and it can get cold, so take plenty of clothing.

      100% and doing it in the morning helps combat the heat!!

    Thanks Jeff & Oscar, expertly explained & researched as I'd not expect anything less!
    For anyone reading this Jeff / Hit The Road Tours is my go to tour guide for the island & you won't be disappointed with the service!
    I'm hoping to do PR1 next year when my health & fitness levels are better suited as I'm not quite there yet due to recent events, but I'm able for the short hike to Pico Ruivo next week!
    Have an amazing week & see you next week with the Blandy's in hand! 😉🤗

      Oh yeah! I’ve found visitors before on the trail very unprepared and without water, it’s not recommendable!! You can get heat stroke up there in the summer very easily, and don’t forget the sunscreen!!

    Having done the half dome hike in Yosemite September 2023, we did this hike in December 2023. It is a challenging one, especially towards end when you are tired and it feels like it is never-ending stairs. It really tested us mentally at the end because it got super foggy, windy, and cold. Definitely bring layers. You will experience warmth, fog, wind, and chilly weather all on the same hike. Overall glad we did it, and we made sure to buy a trail coin at the gift shop after finishing the hike.

    Another enjoyable video. Glad things are getting back to normal for you guys. I’m not sure I’ll ever go up to either of the Picos because I’m severely afraid of heights and that hike, even on video, freaks me out. Have you ever had acrophobes join your tours?

    • @Hittheroadmadeira
      @Hittheroadmadeira  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you 🙏 yes, on our jeep tours we’ve had people with extreme fears and thankfully until today we’ve been able to help most of them, on a private tour we can adapt to the people’s needs and so far we’ve been alright :))

    • @01jvb

      I'm slightly afraid of heights, but found this Picos walk easier than I expected because of the handrails on the edge of the path everywhere where there is a drop. It was easier than some of the levada walks for me. So give it a try - you might find it easier than you think ! The end nearest Ariero is the most vertiginous - I think you would be ok doing the walk from the car park at the other end to the top of Ruivo.

    Imo, if you have a rental car. Go to PR1 for sunrise experience, then hike the first two km for the spots you see on insta. Then, return to your rental car go back and some time at the sandy beach (Calheta or Machico) and grab a great local meal. Mid-afternoon drive over to PR 1.2 and do the short hike to Pico Ruivo for Sunset.

      @@Hittheroadmadeira Yes, that would be for those that want to get as much of the island in each day they are here. No reason those two hikes couldn't be on different days. I think PR12 to pico grande or to the current closure and back (or maybe Curral das Freiras to Boca da Corrida) are best mtn experience without the crowds.

    Hi Jeff, your videos are all so helpful, thank you! We will be in Madeira at the end of June/beg July. For the self-guided private transfers your company provides for the PR1 hike at sunrise, how is the pick up time at Achado do Teixeira determined? My family does tend to take our time on these gorgeous hikes, and we wouldn't want to hurry through, but hard to know how long it will take us. And we'll probably need a bite to eat there when we're through. Is pick up time flexible? Also, what is the cost for this transfer? Thank you!

    • @Hittheroadmadeira
      @Hittheroadmadeira  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lynn,
      We don’t do self guided hikes at our company, ours are guided.
      But I can help you organise a taxi who we usually work with, if that’s not your thing you’ll find self guided shared transport online, I don’t know any of them personally so I can’t recommend them with certainty but I know they exist.
      If you’re interested in the guided hikes or taxi transfers just email us and the girls in the office will happily help you :)
      hittheroadjeep@gmail.com
      Hope this helps!!

    When aiming for the sunrise, when should one be at the parking to beat the crowds?

    • @Hittheroadmadeira

      At the latest 30 min before. It’ll take you about 20 minutes to get to the viewpoint from the parking lot
