Mr TailHappy :P I was ready to buy this spinning bike till i ended up reading about poor calibration from the factory, totally wrong power showing up in Zwift. Only three attempts possible to calibrate the magnetic resistance... Forums full of conversations about these issues, people saying that Schwinn fixing this issues is a lost cause... Whats your opinion on this???
I was about to buy a $300 bike. Then I found your channel and watched most of the reviews. You totally sold me on the IC4! I’d rather invest more and have a great long term bike.
It would be cool to have a graphic at the end showing where this score compares to other bikes you have scored. Thanks for all these bike reviews. I think we are going to buy an IC4 soon. I was hoping there would be some kind of black Friday or cyber Monday sale, but I guess they are selling so fast now that none of these need to go on sale.
Oh yeah didnt see any sales on these ones, high demand as is. I was thinking they theoretically probably need to raise the price on this and the peloton bike too so people who buy can actually get it delivered in a timely manner
@@theclash4u5 Well 2 months later, it is showing $899 and not available. But thanks for the heads up on this! It doesn't even show available on Amazon either.
I will be buying one today! I like the fact that they don't pigeon hole you into purchasing their app! I plan on doing some free rides and when I need a little motivation I will try the Peloton app and use my iPad! I was able to get on one today and this felt like a solid bike and I love the feel of the handle bars! Thanks for your videos I have watched many and they have truly help me make my decision for what I was looking for!
Watched a bunch of your videos and ended up buying the IC4 ($699 on a Best Buy daily deal) and I couldn’t be happier with it! Mine rides absolutely silently, neither pedal has ever come loose, and at 6’0” my knees never bump my water bottles, so really no downsides here! I love how quick the resistance adjustment is, and having all of the metrics easily sync with apps is great
@@TailHappyTV Thank you, but I already watched it this morning as I assembled the bike. They have modified the design a bit since you recorded that video, the rear support is now a bit wider and curved at the ends. I am 6'4" so I appreciated your tall person perspective when you did your review. Looking forward to watching some of your electric bike reviews - I figure if it fits you comfortably it will work for me too. Thanks again for your helpful reviews.
Kevin, could you give some feedback about the resistance? I am looking to get this bike but cant test it since everything is closed. Does this bike have enough resistance to simulate a good climb compared to being on a steep road with a normal bike?
Thank you for your videos. After viewing them many times I decided on the IC4. Was very hesitant due to some of the issues you mentioned, and other owners comments. My local sporting goods store had one on display so I was able to hop on. I feel very confident now. Just purchased through your link. Keep up the good work and thank you again...happy riding!
Amazon was selling it at 58% off at $499.. $560 out the door with taxes included. $279 cheaper than any other store has ever offered it, with Walmart being 2nd cheapest at 778 or something like that. However, the price already jumped back up to 799 on amazon only 2 days after purchasing it. Making it an excellent purchase. I'm extremely overweight and just want to get healthy again but running, or jogging is too high an impact on my joints (messed up knee from early days in martial arts). Hope this works out for me. I got a weight bench and plenty of dumbells of different sized but nothing to really help me with cardio until this bike. I Watched this video while I unpacked it. Thanks for the review. Your other video on assembly really helped me out too. I find the seat to be a little too stiff, though. Hurts my ass after about 10 mins (probably because I'm fat). Ordered a gel seat cover from amazon as well. hope it helps
I know it’s too early to be looking at updates, but it seems like Schwinn is really close to having a great bike. It seems all the issue could be easily addressed. Fix the pedals/cranks, add resistance and a power meter, change the water bottle holders…they’re very close.
I love my ic4. I have been using it for about 6 months, super silent. I am a 188cm tall, 120 KG user(well, I used to be 120, I am now 110 after 6 months of biking). I have been using it for an average of 2 hours a week for 6 months, still like new. But yeah the resistance knob leaves a lot to be desired.
One small thing I did was add a couple of 3M cable clips (Amazon...) and that secures the data cable to the frame with just enough slack for adjustment. The adhesive on the 3M clips is much better than other clips so it's not going to shift or pop off later. But once you stick it on you live with that choice.
Thanks for this! Your videos have been the most helpful for bike comparison. Amazon was sold out of the IC4 for a while but just got about 9 back in today. I cancelled my wait list on Schwinn's site and used your link to purchase. Looking forward to starting to cycle again next week!
Great video. As a tall guy also (6’6”) it was very helpful to see that you were able to adjust it to a comfortable position. We ended up ordering one and I’m looking forward to using it. Thanks!
Wow! This was a really thorough review. I am just starting to look into a home exercise bike, and I’m so glad I found your channel. This bike seems like a top contender for a Peloton alternative.
Oh man, I made an impulse buy and messaging you about how excited I was buying the Costco Echelon 4S. Fortunately, I have not opened it and will return it tomorrow LOL. I am so excited for this bike, after another reviewer mentioned Zwift application compatible. I am a novice road dude, but this seems more of a suitable bike for me regarding height, weight, adjustability, and multiple applications. I am hoping to order one first thing tomorrow, hoping they would provide a 15% military discount according to a reddit user plus the bonus free shipping. Good thing I followed your review about the water bottle tip. I live in the PNW, I don't mind the cold, but definitely concern about rain. Great review man. Zwift on a 70in TV! that's what I am so excited about.
After watching many of your vids, I decided on the IC4. I used your link for Amazon and they had it on sale for $699. It seemed like too good of a deal to pass up! Thank you for all your reviews!
I have really enjoyed mine since I assembled it a week ago using in part your video and the instructions. Now, it has started making a horrible creaking noise when I’m the saddle at about 20 resistance level and 80 RPMs. Standing seems to relieve it, don’t think it’s the pedals. Think it’s got to be the stand itself or the seat bar. Have spent 3-4 hours trying to contact Schwinn. It’s nearly impossible. Today I’ll disassemble the suspect components and add silicone grease where metal touches metal. See if that helps. Really feel like crap about this $800 purchase.
I bought my IC4 Jan of 2021 and have put over 9.000 miles on it which has caused me to replace the two bottom bracket bearings. These at the bearings that the main crank with pedals attaches through. I can’t say if that’s extraordinary or not for a life on the bearings but to put it in perspective.I riide the bike between 45 minutes to an hour putting on about 14 miles each day typically 7 days a week. Other than the bearings the bike has been solid!
My wife and I were wondering about what stationary bike would work for us. Your review made that possible because of the details you provided. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊 😀
Thank you for such great detailed reviews and for your head to head reviews. I purchased this bike because of your reviews. I used the link to say thanks and support your great channel.
Ordered mine today with your link. Thanks for the review! Not exactly the bike I want, but I think it's a great compromise and hopefully Peloton will get the shipping under control and I can upgrade soon.
My Bowflex C6 just arrived (same bike as Schwinn IC4) made my decision based on your videos. It took me about 1 hr to assemble it. Bowflex is $100 more expensive than schwinn but the delivery time was 2 weeks vs 8 weeks on the schwinn IC4. At the end it arrived in 8 days. Mentioning all this just to leave you a comment as a thank for your inputs. Great and honest content 👍🏼✌🏼
Thank you for the great reviews. Love the details! Have been watching since you started reviewing bikes & have found your reviews helpful in narrowing down my bike options. Thank you!
I keep going back to the IC4. If the pedal is the only real problem, I can deal with it. I’m just looking for cardio, staying in zone 2, so I’m not interested in the class. I am interested in linking my polar app to it.
Thanks for the video! I'm looking to upgrade my crappy Pro-Form 405 SPX (seriously, avoid this POS - bad build quality, VERY NOISEY, 90 warranty, bad support) and the IC4 has been on my short list.
Good Review. Thank you for the analysis and IC4 features feedback. I plan on getting IC4 this weekend. So excited. Just doing as much research as possible. I am new to Stationary Bikes.
I was going to get this or the bow flex c6 and then I realized they are the same bike. The bow flex is 100$ more. I’m going with the c6 because the ic4 takes 8 weeks to ship. Thanks for the great review though
Haha interesting, I just made the opposite because of same reason. Bowflex arrived in 8 days and schwinn takes 8 weeks to deliver in my area. 🤷🏽♂️ I had to pay the extra $100 just because I didn’t want to wait that long.
Noted. thanks for all your comments Tony, I see them, its hard to keep up with replying to all the comments but I see you and appreciate your feedback!
Ultimately decided to go with the ic4 thanks to your videos! I’ve done novice studio cycling before, but I’m taking my first steps into at home cycling. Your videos have taught me a lot and are very helpful in figuring out what to look for. I was wondering if you have any recommendations on cycling shoes?
The playing field is much more even for shoes than bikes, but I’d highly recommend going into a bike shop to get properly fit if you have that option. They’ll make sure you get the right size/shape for your foot, can recommend insoles if appropriate, and might even measure and position the spd cleat for you
Just one question, if you'd be so kind. When the bike is on the lowest resistance, that does mean absolute zero resistance, yes? looking for a bike that i can use during rehabilitation and intervall/long rides with Zwift.
Considering this bike. Noticed a few reviews mention that resistance set at "zero" on IC4 is not "free spinning." One review compared 0 resistance on IC4 to about a 15-20 on Peloton bike. Anyone else notice or have an issue with this? Thanks.
I would agree. There’s about a half turn before the 0 resistance moves to 1. It is possible to recalibrate the computer to give true free spin at 0 and pretty much lock up at 100. But I’m not too bothered about doing that yet.
Hello 🙂 I just took delivery of a Schwinn 800ic 2023 model (formely IC8), and even though the heart rate monitor that I'm using is connected to various apps on my iPad, it doesn't connect to the bike. The bike itself is also connected to the apps, but all that I am seeing on the console screen is the letter P ...aaand the flashing red heart symbol after pressing the Bluetooth button once. Long-holding only makes a bleeping sound, but that's it. I can see in your video that there are numbers on your console's screen, and that's what I am hoping mine to eventually do, too. I am using a brand new Polar H9 heart rate monitor, and it's obviously working because it's connected to the apps. There's nothing in the manual, nothing on Google and nothing on TH-cam. I was hoping it would automatically connect to the bike once I pressed the Bluetooth button, but alas... I only see the letter P 😭 So, do you recommend that I do something? Do I press two buttons together similar to changing kmh to mph? I am at a loss. Thanks in advance if anyone can assist :)
Appreciate your videos! I have an IC4. Please do a video of how to get the heart monitor IC4 provides with the screen they provide, and then connect to Pelaton app. Thank you.
I am having an issue with connecting the heart rate monitor to the bike’s computer. I cannot get it to show a number under pulse. My polar monitor connects without issue. And no one at schwinn seems to know anything about how the monitor or heart rate monitor works. Can you please do a video on how to connect Bluetooth monitors with the bike’s computer? It would be greatly appreciated!
You do really helpful reviews! We are looking seriously at the Schwinn for a few reasons: the resistance knob, the data display, and the option to connect to apps. One question on seat -- could it be changed out for something softer if we don't like the firmness of the one that comes with it? If so, any suggestions? Thanks again. Great review.
Thank you. Yes of course you can put any seat on the bike you'd like. I dont really have any recommendations because honestly everyone likes something different. Many people choose to put a gel sear cover over the saddle. Thank you!
I purchased this bike in December and so far very pleased. However I am now hearing a clicking noise from the right pedal with each rotation especially with heavier resistance and when I stand. What are the most likely causes and how would I fix?
@@TailHappyTV thanks for replying. It will be nice that your have your own website or blog. So you can have like everything organized. I just bought the IC4. Seriously spend over three hours watching all your videos. So I wanted all the scores to show it to my wife. Happy holidays!
Thank you for the great review.. I have heard that some taller riders might hit their knees on the bottles placed on the holders. Have you had any issues in this regard? Thank you!!
I've been using this bike for my off season training because it is whisper quiet and i can ride early in the morning without disturbing anyone in the house. Overall a very good bike for the price. My only critique is that the actual miles ridden can't be accurate. As the resistance is increased the flywhell slows down which means your speed should also slow down but speed actually increases with resistance making the actual mileage ridden questionable.
Correct, also this bike tracks resistance, so I dont know if the calculation is based on the combo of cadence and resistance or what. I wish the screen gave a power estimate too considering it has the metrics to give an estimate.
I want to buy a stationary bike but I never had in mind classes and work outs, I just wanted to get exersize when I cant ride outdoors because of weather. I like the Pendelton style bikes because they are small. My wife might like the classes. After watching a bunch of your videos I am confused. You are so thorough and show so many pros and cons I cant figure out which cons I am ok with. Can you please just recoemend a bike for my wife and I under $500. I am 5'7" and She is 5' 2". she likes more upright bikes, I am a road biker. what could work for both of us? I bought a Yasuda but haven't unboxed it yet. I am thinking of returning it after watching your review. I would like a smooth ride and not too noisy. Much appreciated. Andrew
Thank you very much for this video. I ordered the Schwinn IC8 (European Version of IC4) here in germany 2 days ago and have to wait till mid/end march for delivery. Nevertheless, there is another question: Since you have the choice to use the pedals with SDP shoes, does the cages on the opposit side make noises spinning around unused? I focused on getting a quiet bike since i will be using it in an open room. Don't want to disturb family members too much. If the do create noise, is there a way to keep them from doing that or do i have to buy some other pedals? Thank you.. Stay healthy...
I have an IC4 and so far I love it! Your videos have been very helpful. Do you have a summary list of your tailhappy scores? I would love to see a list of all of the bikes you have reviewed and compare their stats on your scores.
I have owned this bike since August 2020. The seat post has always been loose. It squeaks when I pedal. This is my only complaint. There is a plastic sleeve that the seat slides into that is not tight. Do you know a fix for this?
Thanks for the great reviews! Been watching your channel to try to decide what's the best DIY peloton hack we should do (ie tier 1,2 or 3). Given that his model doesn't track resistance, does that pose problems when you are trying to follow along during a peloton studio class? Thanks!!
Thanks for your videos, very informative. For a budget of up to $1000 would you recommend the ic4 as the best option for a open concept bike? We don’t want to be locked into any one company for classes and already have a peloton and Apple subscription with Apple Watch. Is there a better option for under $1000 for a bike that allows you the freedom to use other apps? We were also considering the $1000 echelon bike at Costco but fear that forces you to buy into the echelon system.
Really appreciate your videos! It would be awesome to see a comparison between the new Echelon GT+ and the Schwinn IC4 since they are in the same price range. Do you have a gut recommendation between the two (we already use the peloton app for non bike fitness, so we'll want something to rig with that)
Have you reviewed the SCHWINN AC™ POWER W/SELF GENERATING CONSOLE? I'm considering one for in-home use -- I consistetly see good ratings and the warranty is outstanding.
Since the handle post does not have adjustment holes, does the alternative (current) handlebar adjustment design keep the handlebar locked properly? Or the handlebar slides down under load? Have you noticed any wobble of the handle post?
I have been looking at getting a workout bike for my apartment. I can't stand treadmills they hurt my knees and hips. I'm not entirely sure what bike would be best for me
Can you raise the front bar pass the safety line? I find it way to low and would like a more upright position. I know that's a safety issue, but there must be some to raise it higher
Should be perfectly fine, just make sure the 4 feet are adjusted so it doesn’t wobble, no noise should transmit between apts, the schwinn is basically silent. Hope this helps
Hi there , the display goes off after i stop pedaling for about 5 minutes , is there a way to keep it on until i want ? sometimes i take a break for ten minutes and have to restart again . Reply
So a year later, do you still stick to what you said in this review? Almost a no-brainer at $800 since I actually considered the Peloton but really didn’t wanna spend that kind of money. So close to pulling the trigger on this one.
Question. So I’ve got the opportunity to purchase two different bikes second hand, either the echelon ex5 for $300 or the schwinn ic4 for $450. I really have no desire to use the echelon app and would prefer the peloton app. It’s my understanding peloton can work with both but it works better with the schwinn. There’s also a chance I’ll never even use an app and just do the freestyle mode so bike quality and metrics may be the highest priority with peloton app functionality as a close second. Which is the better bike overall for my needs since the price I’m getting is great for either? Thanks!

I’m just looking for cardio, staying in zone 2, so I’m not interested in the class. I am interested in linking my polar app to it.
If you are considering this bike, my wife just found it on Best Buy for $499. At that price, you can’t lose. Can’t wait to give it a spin!
It was on amazon for that price last week but only for a couple days
Just bought for $699 on amazon, can't beat it at that price!
I wanted the Rogue but I found this bike used near me for $400 bucks and put together! I thinking of getting it.
Just bought this bike on the back of this review. Excellent review. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice! Happy riding Irene!
@@josuearaya8461 I also paid the extra 100$ to get the bowflex I haven’t received mine yet as I just ordered it but I’m excited
@@Mommy_Irene ooh yes. Sorry, I read it wrong. At the end mine arrived in 7 days. Hope yours arrives soon 👍🏼✌🏼
@@josuearaya8461 just a naive question.. If the two bikes are exactly the same, why does the C6 cost an extra $100? Regards
Excellent review. Purchased one because of this review👍
Thanks for sharing. As always, extremely informative.
I think it would be nice to do a video of the 3 bikes that got the highest TailHappy Score!
Noted. thanks for all your comments Tony, I see them, its hard to keep up with replying to all the comments but I see you and appreciate your feedback!
Has there ever been a firmware update/upgrade? I so wish they can add power to the display
They’ll make sure you get the right size/shape for your foot, can recommend insoles if appropriate, and might even measure and position the spd cleat for you
Great review! Thank you. I think my wife is going to buy an IC4 this weekend.
Do you know if you can connect Apple Watch to the bike? So I can see heart rate from watch directed to the Nike monitor?
You didn't mention that you can charge your tablet or phone through the IC4 Display unit.
You right, I knew I'd forget something, thanks for sharing!
I only see the letter P 😭
So, do you recommend that I do something? Do I press two buttons together similar to changing kmh to mph? I am at a loss.
Thanks in advance if anyone can assist :)
Wow, very informative and well presented, great coverage and content!
Much appreciated! thanks!
Great review, thanks Matt!
Thanks for all the videos.. Just got a Schwinn ordered up.. used your link so enjoy some coffee :D
love the videos. will you please do a which bike is best for apple fitness plus?
Appreciate your videos! I have an IC4. Please do a video of how to get the heart monitor IC4 provides with the screen they provide, and then connect to Pelaton app. Thank you.
I can but you just turn it on and open a peloton app class and there is a option on the right side of the screen to connect the heart rate monitor
Nice video Gary!!!
Thank you!
@@TailHappyTV Thanks! I'll look around.
Great and helpful vid! Question, you gave the drive train a 7. What would make it an 8 or 9?
Probably a bit late but I think they mentioned having a higher amount of maximum resistance would have helped.
Great review. Do you know if it works with ifit app?
So far, the ifit app is the one I cannot get my C6 to pair with
I purchased this bike in December and so far very pleased. However I am now hearing a clicking noise from the right pedal with each rotation especially with heavier resistance and when I stand. What are the most likely causes and how would I fix?
Tighten the pedal, most likely will solve. Posting a video on it tomorrow.
Thanks for the video. Is there a way I can see the scores for all the bikes? Happy holidays!
working on it, i do have a tailhappy score review playlist section on my channel for now
@@TailHappyTV thanks for replying. It will be nice that your have your own website or blog. So you can have like everything organized. I just bought the IC4. Seriously spend over three hours watching all your videos.
So I wanted all the scores to show it to my wife. Happy holidays!
You mentioned potentially the cadence and heart rate casting for the Peleton app may be blocked going forward. Did I hear that right? Thanks
I've heard rumors, not for sure though. Anyone else feel free to elaborate on this point.
Is it a bad thing? You get all that data on the screen anyway
Oh no! That’s one of the main reason why I got the ic4.
Thank you for the great review.. I have heard that some taller riders might hit their knees on the bottles placed on the holders. Have you had any issues in this regard? Thank you!!
Just use shorter bottles, problem solved. This is what I did
@@williamking3407 great.. Thanks
Thank you.. Stay healthy...
you can tighten or remove the straps to prevent noise, happy riding!
@@TailHappyTV Thank you very much for the quick answer...!
The heart rate monitor is the key feature for me. How does it work on the IC4? Thanks
Do you think purchasing an extended (5 year) warranty is necessary for the ic4?
Thanks for the great reviews! Been watching your channel to try to decide what's the best DIY peloton hack we should do (ie tier 1,2 or 3). Given that his model doesn't track resistance, does that pose problems when you are trying to follow along during a peloton studio class? Thanks!!
Thanks for the video! Would you say the mph and distance is accurate on the console?
Thanks for your videos, very informative. For a budget of up to $1000 would you recommend the ic4 as the best option for a open concept bike? We don’t want to be locked into any one company for classes and already have a peloton and Apple subscription with Apple Watch. Is there a better option for under $1000 for a bike that allows you the freedom to use other apps? We were also considering the $1000 echelon bike at Costco but fear that forces you to buy into the echelon system.
Check out my sunny 1805 vids, great open concept bike
Hi man, really appreciate your thorough reviews. Thank you!
Could you recommend another bike similar to the IC4 but for taller people? (I am 6'6")
Is the red ball that adjusts the seat height, supposed to pull out and away from the black part that screws into the seat?
Would this be comfortable for a 6'2" 280lb man?
I assume the seat is interchangeable with other bike seats?
Thinking of one for my dad.
I guess yes ? Maximum is 150kg
What are your thoughts on the Sunny 1851? How does it compare to the IC4? Thanks
Thanks for the great review! Have you measured the Q factor? Really curious to know this before I buy...
I'm not entirely sure what bike would be best for me
What's your budget
@@TailHappyTV $1000 is the highest I can go
@@2writeluvonherarms00 check out my latest video, you can get the 1805 for much less than 1k
@@TailHappyTV okay thank you. I was looking at the IC3 but it had mixed reviews some people have posted videos of the loud noise it makes
Can you raise the front bar pass the safety line? I find it way to low and would like a more upright position. I know that's a safety issue, but there must be some to raise it higher
Do I have to plug in the LCD to access resistance on the bike, I read it was magnetic. I would like to use the bike in the yard with no outlet.
On the Schwin ic4 can you tilt the part where you put your iPad towards or away from you. Just wondering if that rest area moves at all?
No it isn’t adjustable.
Awesome review love it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Would you recommend this bike for an upstairs apartment? Is it quiet and stable enough?
Thanks
Should be perfectly fine, just make sure the 4 feet are adjusted so it doesn’t wobble, no noise should transmit between apts, the schwinn is basically silent. Hope this helps
Hi there , the display goes off after i stop pedaling for about 5 minutes , is there a way to keep it on until i want ? sometimes i take a break for ten minutes and have to restart again .
Reply
Will it coast like a real bike? will the wheel keep spinning if you stop pedaling?
No
What type of shoes is it at 5:01?
TIEM SLIPSTREAM SHOE.
Love your videos! Question do you have a recommendation for a bike that can hold up to 400 lbs?
When the pedal comes loose - what does it feel like?
Such an excellent, detailed review. Thank you. :-)
Is it possible to ride with a Schwinn app that would show your power/wattage during the ride? Similar to how the Echelon is set up.
Thanks!
I’d probably go with the ex5 at that price
Is this the same bike with the bowflex C6?
