It's a very similar workflow to what I taught in the learning freecad series th-cam.com/video/fVkqD_Yu7aY/w-d-xo.html which I used for a fork and spoon. Many possibilities and it makes what first looks like a complex object actually quite easy to model. Glad you enjoyed.
From version 0.21 onwards, there have been slight changes in the operation, but it is now possible to adjust the image in the Image Plane setting after importing.
Dang the idea of using an intersect would never have occurred to me, but it's such an elegant solution!

Very nice. I've found FreeCAD's workflow to be completely baffling. This is more advanced than I'm ready for but I feel much better informed.
