I'm sorry but 'One of the Drunks' is about him overcoming his excessive drinking and partying.
The lines "searching for a new high, high as the sun, uncomfortably numb" obviously means something, not to mention it's an ode to Pink Floyd's 'comfortably numb'.
Also the end when he references to the alcohol as "holy spirits" and uses the phrase "grips you like a pistol". How is that meaningless? What an absolute dingus.

Totally agree!!!! It’s one of my favs off the new album! And it actually had a lot of meaning to me too. When he says “damn it’s all good, I guess” to ME means he’s like second guessing himself to being one of the drunks but that’s what makes him forget all the shitty stuff that happens in life. Much like many people.

Pray for the Wicked tells a story. Think of it like a Broadway Musical with an act one and two. One of the Drunks is act one's finale. The Overpass is the over the top act two starter where things really kick off. A musical about a young, troubled artist living in LA who FINALLY made it big time. He worked so hard, he never gave up hope. He finally sold his music, though it meant selling himself to the Big Man (Hey Look Ma, I made It). His mother taught him that he could do ANYTHING (High Hopes), and he's so excited to make her proud (Hey look ma, I made it). But the fast life isn't all he thought it would be. He's a constant partier, a drunk (One of the Drunks), and smokes a lot of weed to escape the depression and the constant expectations (King of the Clouds). In the end, no matter how fast he lives, no matter how famous and achieved he is, no one in LA, none of his party friends, his drinking buddies, will remember him or owe him a damn thing (Dying in LA). When you think of PftW in this way, every song has its place, has its purpose. It's really quite interesting, and I urge you to listen to the album from this perspective!

no, brendon said in an interview once that he had pretty bad ADHD as a kid and his parents had him on all kinds of medications to calm him down and help him focus

Am I the only one who thinks that a song doesn't need some big super deep meaning just to be a good song? Casual affair is one of my favorite PATD song just because of the imagery it brings. I also suffer from severe anxiety and it calms me down.

It always annoyed me that media/content gets critiqued just bc it doesn't have meaning or a good message like: "omg all songs nowadays have nasty things (drugs, sex etc), I miss songs that have meaning!!" or they even say "it's not real music" (which crosses the line imo)
It's okay if you want a song to have meaning and don't like that it doesn't have one, you can express that too, but songs don't need meaning.
You can make a song about nonsense, and that's the beauty of artistic expression. It doesn't gotta be so in depth like you think-

While I agree with you, I think it's the fact that many panic fans (or at least old ones) came during afycso and pretty. odd., so we're used to Ryan Ross' amazing, complicated lyrics. Even vices had pete wentz and dallon weekes help writing. So fans of the first 3 albums got used to this amazing, poetic writing. Of course having a simpler song is fine, it's just not what everyone expects from Panic, really.

Its annoying when you try super hard to analyze the meaning of a song, and then if you're unable to figure it out, you call it meaningless. You really don't know exactly what the songs were written about and it's not your place to call them meaningless. Maybe they are to you, but they certainly weren't written that way.

With Victorious, it's literally his song so why can't he write and sing about how he feels? Whether that's depressed or overjoyed or feeling victorious, I don't understand how you think it's so annoying for him to sing about his life and feelings. Besides, it's a great song to listen to when you're in that mood as well, similar to We Are the Champions by Queen. There's nothing wrong with a song that gets you pumped up even if it was written about the band's own success.

Once again you completely missed the point of One of the Drunks. It's unfair for people who don't use recreational drugs to judge those who do (like it annoys me that you didn't seem to think much of King of the Clouds simply because Brendon wrote it high. You can have a lot of really good phylisophical conclusions while high. And King of the Clouds is actually much deeper than at first listen). Alcohol is an escape but it's also a dangerous addiction. That's what One of the Drunks is about. Falling into that world of an alcoholic and how sad it looks from the outside. You seem to think it's just about partying. One of the Drunks is one of the more deeper and sad songs on the album besides Dying in LA.
The song itself really isn't interesting musically though. I think that's the big issue. There are songs that aren't as deep but are way easier to listen to because the composition is just overall... better

As a huge P!ATD fan, I love every single song Panic makes. But, I agree with most of these on the list EXCEPT for Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks and One of The Drunks and here is my opinion why. For Nails For Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks, I believe the autotune is part of the lyrics itself. I believe the autotune is there as the lyrics are about an abusive relationship. The unsettling nature adds to the point of the song. For the one of the drunks, I defend it for the one part where it goes completely slow and out of time. It’s musically genius as the music itself is depicting the feeling of being drunk.
NO CASUAL AFFAIR AND COLLAR FULL ARE BEAUTIFUL 😭😭😭 and I literally disagreed with 5-1 & he’s pan soooo that’s probably the lgbt+ vibe
I feel like people already know this but for those who don't:
There are three panic songs that tell a little story and make sense together.
In This Is Gospel, Brendon obviously dies in the video...
In Emporors New Clothes, at the beginning of the music video, Brendon's death continues, after he dies, and instead of going to heaven, he went to hell. And that's why he's a demon in the song and video.
In Say Amen, a more recent song, the video basically explains why he went to hell in Emporors New Clothes.
In the video, he has something valuable that I'm assuming he stole, but I could be wrong.
He kills all the ninjas that arrive at his home.
Then, he starts hooking up with a girl who actually is seeking for the valuable thing Brendon has.
She manages to get it, then wacks Brendon with a bat, which then he falls on the floor, probably suffering a deadly concussion, which lead to his death, in This Is Gospel.
Also, there's proof. Because in Say Amen and This Is Gospel, he's wearing that same white t-shirt.

Even though most of these songs are humongous bops and personal favorites of mine, I'm glad that you brought up the lack of lyrical creativity in them (and the awful auto tune in nails for breakfast). The amount of meaningful lyrics in more recent panic! songs has been declining drastically and sometimes people (myself included) admire and idolise artist to the point where they don't see flaws or mistakes. I actually thought that Silver Lining was more sarcastic than straightforward 'wowie I'm so great'. I thought that Silver Lining and Hey Look Ma were both songs about Brendon taking a step back, wiping the star dust from his eyes, and realizing that being a celebrity isn't all it's chalked up to be. To me, it almost sounded as if he was making fun of people who say that they knew they were destined for greatness, or those celebrities who aren't thankful for the fame the have now and want more (who needs a silver lining where there's gold?). I can totally see where you're coming from in your explanation though. Love your videos!

I've come back to this video because I've now realized that (including the honorable mentions) I just heard so many of these live on this past tour alone haha...seeing these performed live and having Brendon in the flesh so close in front of you, he could sing anything and I'd be living for it. I mean, he sang a live version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and made it sound amazing, and that's a feat in and of itself.

Okay I totally respect what points you’re trying to get across, but in The Overpass, Brendon isn’t “trying to be edgy by singing about LGBTQ stuff.” He identifies as pansexual, so why can’t he sing about it? He’s not trying to be edgy, he’s expressing himself. That’s what you usually do in music, so why should anyone give him crap for it?? Like I legitimately don’t get it, he tries to sing about something underrepresented in the music business, and you’re gonna use that as a way to say he’s trying to be edgy? I’m sure you didn’t mean anything bad by that remark, but maybe think over a statement like that before making it.
