Before I even listen to this let me tell you this … I have met this gentleman many times and every single one was a joy … kind gentle humble appreciative sincere … Martin Chivers is a legend,as well as a football legend. The young ones could learn a thing or two about being a professional from him. With their flash cars and bling watches❤
I always thought Chivers was one of the scapegoats for England's failure to qualify for 1974 WC Finals. Bobby Moore, Alan Ball and Peter Shilton were probably more culpable.
He had a terrible game that night for some strange reason he remained on the field for 88 minutes before Ramsey pulled him off. His replacement Kevin Hector nearly scored for England when he came on.
Pretty low thing to drag the personal life of a great footballer and the views of his ex-wife into a study of his career almost implying that this was somehow a reason for his retirement from football/
Read The Glory Game by Hunter Davies, he spent a year with the Spurs players, an excellent read for the older football fans.
