I’ve actually fish with one of these once. I did not cast it well because I was too scared about backlash that I never took my thumb off the spool. Still, it was a great reel for a variety of fishing situations. I never serviced one however. Debbie, I have a few reels that are over 50 years old with plastic or nylon bushings that have held up perfectly over time. A Daiwa 9000C comes to mind that is like that. They were made in the late 1970s. I like reels that have a double AR mechanism. Backup is always a good thing to have. The Penn 650ss, 750ss, and 850ss have double AR setups. I love the simplicity of the design on this Shimano. It just looks durable and effective! I’m always amazed at what steady hands you have. You and I are about the same age but I think you are holding up better than I am! LOL. You did your normal excellent job on this beautiful reel! - Chris
Thanks Chris - yes the bushings are all about service and the amount of use the reel has had on it in addition to how the reel was used or abused. They can certainly last if treated well
Hi Dennis I received the shematic for the Abu García spinning reel I've had for 40 some yrs. I appreciate it very much and also the history of the Mitchell reels. I do have another one that was made in France since the same time as the other one. God Bless you and I assure you that I enjoy very much al your videos, they are very interesting to watch and learn from them. Have a good and nice evening. Will be in touch.
Hi Dennis I Have one of these reals and some times when I’m using it the handle will just spin and won’t wind in the line so I undo the side and there is a part inside I push and it works agin happens all the time cheers
Something is wrong with the trip mechanism not returning. It could be getting stuck on old, dried grease or you may be missing the return spring. Next time you remove the side plate, spray the internals with a very wet coat of penetrating oil. That should help break up any old dirt or grease and that would restore the trip if old grease is the cause - Dennis
Cool
