Yes. Eliminating the line guide converts the reel to a straight conventional reel where you use your educated thumb to guide the line back and forth - Dennis
How do you spool the line back and forth with your thumb? I like to lubricate the bearings with REM Oil. It has Teflon and keeps my reels casting like champs.
You hook the line with the tip of your thumb and guide it left to right and reverse while cranking the reel to ensure that the line is spread evenly back and forth on the spool.
I imagine that the line guide shield has a minimal affect on frame strength, but removing the parts shouldn't cause any issues. the issue I have found with these conversions is that the worm drive is removed and that allows water to enter the reel and that can cause issues with he dirt and debris that gets in the gearing

Thank you. I will check their products - Dennis
so you just guide the line back on the spool now? what's the solution for reeling in and not messing up the winding on the spool?

@@2ndChanceTackle Very interesting. I actually didn't know that existed prior to your video.

Same process for an Abu? I really don’t like level wind reels. Too much maintenance.

No thanks, why would i want to complicate my baitcaster .
That's fair! Thanks
I would imagine removing the complete worm gear mechanism would also change the strength of the frame
