    I saw PPL in 1979, in Dayton, Ohio. It was my pregnant wife’s birthday, and we waited outside the venue to see them. When they came out, I told them it was my wife’s birthday, and they sang Happy Birthday to her in three-part harmony - it was pretty cool!

    I loved Pure Prairie League in the 70s and 80z. Ashamed to admit I didnt know Vince was with them for awhile. He is one of the most underrated and class act guitar players there is.

    One of my prized records is a live album that all the guys signed.When I went up to Vince, he said he wasn't on this album.But I asked him to sign it anyway. He even personalized it by writing a nice note. Thanks again PPL!

    I saw PPL in early August of 1978 at the Grandstand of the Ozark Empire Fair. We were tripping on mushrooms and had front row seats. Best live performance I've seen...

      @@keithclark486 A Fuller interview re: PPL is interesting for sure. I've done it personally and he covers the origins of PPL , incredible trivia re : how he started playing with Pedal Steel phenom John Call at John's house (they lived a few blocks apart ) , several band members came form Waverly H.S., coffee shops with George Powell etc. and much much more. Same goes for a John Call interview , who was in the band longer than Craig , a guy who has 6 patents in cancer research. A brilliant man .
      But Mike has been there since 72 , hired several members including the Goshorns and Vince Gill , handled all business dealings, got the band back in action with a new contract when Craig was forced to leave, and still has it rolling today, when 50th anniversary plans were stymied due to Covid. His insight into the entire PPL story in phenomenal. The last I heard from him he was still working on a book which would be terrific for PPL fans

    Craig Fuller is way more of a big shot than any of the guys mentioned who were in Pure Prairie League aside from Vince. Craig sang “Amy” and everyone thinks its Vince.

    • @dennismurry628
      @dennismurry628 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are 100% correct. That is indeed Craig Fuller on the original recorded version of Amy {or Amie?}. An uphill climb trying to convince people of that fact. I would guess, also, that at the very least Craig was co-writer on the song, but I do not know that for a fact.

    • @cowboyluke1706
      @cowboyluke1706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dennismurry628 Yes Dennis , certainly most people know it's Craig singing Amie and yes he wrote it as he wrote and sang most tunes on their first two LP's. There are those who are shocked to find out Gill was in PPL before becoming a monster in country music. His concerts with PPL were legendary . his guitar work unreal . No surprise mark Knopfler tried to hire him for Dire Straits.

    • @scotthunt2479
      @scotthunt2479 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Craig Fuller wrote and sang lead on "Amie." I never got to see Craig sing the song with the band, but I did get to see PPL in 1978 when they opened for the Charlie Daniels Band in Dothan, AL. By that time, Vince Gill had joined the band, and he sang lead on "Amie". I must say Vince did a great job, and no one seemed to mind that it was Vince and not Craig.

    I saw Pure Prairie League playing in Myrtle Beach in the early 80s. I was super pissed off at the front man had left, and we were seeing a second rate version of Pure Prairie league. Found out after all these years that it was Vince Gill. Hilarious. They were great by the way.

    Vince Gill turned down Mark knopfler's offer to join Dire Straits on tour. Could have joined a huge band and made millions of dollars but he knew he would go on to become a star on his own.

    Saw PPL with Vince in November 1979 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Their best album was "Two Lane Highway". Saw Vince back in the nineties at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. I know he's a monster guitarist but that was nothing but ninety minutes of whiny vocals. Sat in front of Vince and Amy at the Grand Old Opry House in 2006 for a Bonnie Raitt concert. Thankfully, that night he did not sing. Owned a guitar amp once that he had previously owned. It was not whiny.

    The Pure Prairie League was never the same after Craig Fuller left. Vince Gill is a very talented musician. He has a lot of good music in his solo career. But as far as I.m concerned, he ruined the PPL after he joined.

      @@richardmather1906 Sorry got to agree with larryleinweber1885 , at least in the respect the PPL were a great band until Fuller, George Powell and Craig's replacement Larry Goshorn left. They became a AOR band and Vince Gill kind of sealed the deal and they became a shadow of the band they once were. Also they seemed to go into complete denial of who they once were , i.e. a stoner country rock band , and religous zealots have now taken over ....i was actually reprimanded by someone called Tom ( this Tom??) on their now defunct website for daring to mention their 'history' . Weird !

      @@richardmather1906 Yeah, Vince was great, still is. But he couldn't duplicate the Craig Fuller vocal on "Amie". But no, that wasn't his fault. I'm not sure ANYONE could do that vocal like Craig Fuller.

      @@scapegoat762 And lets not forget Fuller's guitar work. Obviously, Gill is stellar in that department. But the PPP guitar sound is Fuller. Even influenced Mick Ronson, who did a great cover of Angel No. 9.
