“The challenge begins with how to pronounce his name. The first bit should sound like ‘Knee’, the second like ‘cher’: Knee - cher.
Friedrich Nietzsche was born in 1844 in a quiet village in the eastern part of Germany, where - for generations - his forefathers had been pastors. He did exceptionally well at school and university; and so excelled at ancient Greek (a very prestigious subject, at the time) that he was made a professor at the University of Basel when still only in his mid-twenties…”

I thought that but I think I misconstrued it...he felt sympathy for the man beating the horse by the sounds of things and that I'm afraid (in my book anyway) condemns Nietzsche. ..I would have had a breakdown about the poor horse but he had one about the guy beating the horse...maybe he was conflicted and felt guilty and that's what caused the break...but if I had seen that going down he'd have been a nervous wreck sans moustache (any sympathiser of beating animals deserves to getting the moustache ripped off their faces!).

Leekduck Did he? Oh then I understand his breakdown. .I have rescued lots of animals in my life and I cannot abide cruelty to humans or animals. ..I have all these groups to do with animal welfare on Facebook and I have reached a point where I can't go on as the Feed upsets me too much. ...I know what happens to animals and I just can't watch any more it makes me ill. I can sympathise with Nietzsche now as I would probably have a similar reaction if I couldn't stop it. Thanks for telling me that because it was bothering me whether or not I'd understood it or not.

He considered Dostoyevsky as a rival and was very critical of the latter's works, but ironically such a scene (beating an exhausted horse to death) appears in Dostoyevsky's novel "Crime and Punishment"; thus, if the story of Nietzche's break-down is true, here comes a humble suggestion what the words "Now, I understand" were reffered to.

Oby D, Hello! Nietzsche helped me greatly. The most important thing, for me, was understanding and accepting that good and bad coexist simultaneously. Some actions are at the same time good and bad. Some times, not being good, does not imply being bad. I used to evaluate stuff acording to these two absolute oposites, and it was not doing me any good. The stuff he says about knowing your self is logical, but very difficult... being at peace with your self, and then making choices that are not subtly influenced by self denial or other unperceived "dark/hidden" impulses. Other thing that was good for me was accepting there is no afterlife. Make the best of this life, of the present, the present is eternal and our only certainty. Don´t make choices based on fear, experience this world and yourself to the fullest. Nietzsche tells us this, but in a way you understand there is a morality, based on the respect for your self and others. Nietzsche is, for me, very hard to read, I don´t apreciate the way he expresses his wonderful and liberating ideas. I investigated here on youtube lots of university classes on the subject. Best wishes for you, Oby D.

"Über" means "above" or "supreme" and "Mensch" means "human being". So a "Übermensch" would be a "supreme human being".

Religion ^^ i remember sitting in the religion lesson of the fifth grade and being like “wtf“... now I wrote about Nietzsche in my philosophy studies at university and feel... happy :D it's weird how people argue about this whole God is dead quote and the moral downfall... Religion gave the human metaphysical consolation, so he says, but if religious belief is not longer a thing, it shall be exchanged. So I'd interpret it still as a good thing here, but it seems to be seen like the disappear of Religion is a bad thing. Well you can interpret anything differently, there ain't a truth... guess i accidentaly went off topic ^^

@@wilthewise2277 Definately, in both cases a religious opinion comes from authorities. That's pretty sad. Just recently I read about the lyrics of "TOOL - Prison Sex" which at first is about child abuse and later on the raped becomes the rapist. But if you take a deeper look, you realise that the words "my lamb and martyr" seem to be out of place. It's likely that the story is just a metaphor for parents passing their own beliefs on to their children. The singer's definately no big fan of organized religion as you can tell from different songs and this also makes sense considering his own family in which he grew up and disliked the dominant christianity ruling there. It's easy to underestimate the poisonous body religion has. I was shocked when I moved away from home which is located in protestantian dominance to a catholic area meeting people who grew up in catholic schools with catholic education. They have a different relation to religion at all. In the protestantian north people didn't care as much about religion as whole, being busy with their own lifes. In a catholic area it seems, as telling by my own empiric experience, the relation to their imaginary friend plays a bigger role. It was both suprising and annoying. However you wanna interpret this data it is definately a good example for how the passed on beliefs of authorities shape the next generation. Greetz buddy

I don't think that there is a single part that can be "the most important" in Nietzsche's philosophy. He spoke about Truth and "i am", the death of god, the dionisiac, religions, the eternal return, art ....And there are a lot of stuff that i dind't mention. His philosophy cannot be organized, it's not systematic. The part about the alchol was not so important.

I met Nietzsche for the first time through one of my heroes: Atahualpa Yupanqui. The greatest name of Argentinian folklore who wrote 5000 verses, 9 books and 1200 songs. No stupid weepy love songs. All songs about the nature and people of Argentina and about the human condition. I have always wondered where he got the strength and inspiration from to be so creative and hard working. So while reading his autobiography I came across with this quote by Nietzsche:
"The greatest events - they are not our loudest but our stillest hours”
Yupanqui says he always lived by this quote. Very beautiful indeed. It calms you down everytime you read it.
Thanks a lot for the great lesson!

It warmed my heart to hear that I was somehow able to make you smile when you were 14 :- ) By the way you must be one very smart and sensitive boy to have discovered this channel at such a young age! I am so sorry that your heart is broken..That person has surely missed the opportunity to know you better, which is a pity. But here is one consoling thought:
I know it is very hard, but try not to take it personally. Rejection feels awful, but there are deep psychological reasons for one person to reject another. We can never really entirely know those reasons. Neither that person can...
For example a very gentle and beautiful soul can reject a wonderful man and fall for a complete jerk for years. People don't always end up with folks they deserve. Our past conditioning can lead us to very dark places...
And also keep in mind that, for things that one person doesn't love you, another person will. My ex hated the fact that I spoke very fast. He said it made him nervous. But someone else told me that he loved the way I spoke because it was very energising...
If you want to know more about relationships I highly recommend you the podcast " Where should we begin", with Esther Perel. She is probably the best couple therapist on earth. Those are real therapy sessions with real couples!
That will teach you a lot and hopefully help you to find someone who deserves you.
      Many greetings and much love!

Wow i love how you guys break these ideas down so well, this is so straightforward and well animated! Nietzsche's ideas are so thought-provoking. watching these videos has made me realise that there are soooo many people who've struggled with and come up with solutions to conflicts related to the creation of meaning and seeking of happiness in ones life. That sounds like something obvious, of course everyone has these kinds of conflicts, but when you start to question the meaning of life, just in your head, without talking to anyone about it, it seems like it is a problem that isolates you from other people, a problem only you suffer from and makes it you feel alone. This channel has helped me realise that this is certainly not the case; many people have been through very similar struggles and have tried to provide themselves and others with guidance, and that is very well appreciated. As is the School of Life's efforts to bring these ideas to a wider audience. Thanks to all philosophers, the School of Life and, well, thanks to everyone; we will all eventually give something great to the world. In fact, I'm sure most people give multiple great things to the world, not just at one point, but throughout their entire lives :)

This is true, but then to the same point, whether it's envy that guides us or anything else it's always going to be wrong because as you say, we really don't know what we want deep down.
I think it's something that becomes more clear as we move through life and try different things, ultimately clearing out those things that block the light, slowly getting closer.
I think that's what all these ideas are about, self actualisation and all that - I don't think you ever really get there, but at least you can try getting closer.

    • @ACRMedia
      @ACRMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ENVY is defined as:
(noun) "a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions qualities or luck"
(verb) "the desire to have a quality possessions or other desirable attributes belonging to someone else..."
May just be me but envy has never driven me to be successful. The pursuit of "better" has...🤷🏾‍♀️
And then he would probably hate people that achive better because they find new levels of comfort, 😄.
