OUR BIGGEST, MOST AMBITIOUS PRODUCTION YET. A LOVE LETTER TO THE MASTER OF OLD SCHOOL SHAPES, LAU KAR-LEUNG.
虎鶴雙形拳 THE TIGER AND CRANE DOUBLE FORM WAS SAID TO HAVE BEEN COMPOSED AND CHOREOGRAPHED BY THE LEGENDARY CHINESE FOLK HERO AND KUNG FU LEGEND, 黃飛鴻 WONG FEI-HUNG. HOWEVER, WHAT PROMPTED HIM TO DO SUCH A THING?
THIS FILM IS OUR TAKE ON THE ORIGINS OF THE FORM AND THE EVENTS THAT LED TO ITS CREATION. IT IS BY NO MEANS HISTORICALLY ACCURATE, BUT RATHER, OUR OWN CREATIVE INTERPRETATION OF THE STORY.
THIS PROJECT WAS BY FAR THE MOST DIFFICULT ONE WE'VE DONE SO FAR. WE SPENT AN AVERAGE OF 9 HOURS PER DAY ON SET FOR A TOTAL OF 10 DAYS JUST GRINDING AWAY AT THIS. THE CHOREOGRAPHY FOR THIS FILM HAD TO BE SOMETHING ELSE AS WELL. WE WANTED TO MAKE IT AS INTRICATE & EXCITING AS POSSIBLE, LIKE SOMETHING YOU'D SEE OUT OF A LAU KAR-LEUNG MOVIE, SO WE KNEW WE COULDN'T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY LESS.
AFTER EVERYTHING WE'VE GONE THROUGH, THE END RESULT IS THIS:
POSSIBLY THE GREATEST DRAGON LORDS SHORT FILM EVER MADE.

I just saw this at KCFF. I have a short film in the same local shorts program as you (Chili For Two) and I just wanted to say this fucking phenomenal work. I’m a huge fan of Lau Kar-leung and Chang Cheh and you really captured the beauty of it. It’s a fun homage, but not condescending like so many others who riff on this style. You really got what it was about and knocked it out of the park.
