Photographers are always looking for subjects, and in so doing, often choose the street. As Dorothy Norman said, 'You don't have to go fifty feet from your house to find a photograph.' While Street Photography can be practiced anywhere, New York City in particular, is a place that lends itself to the art (afterall, our sidewalks are 18% grey!) But street shooting does require a certain discipline. In this class, photographer Mel DiGiacomo will discuss how to know the light, how to learn the vocabulary of your lenses, and how to put aside the technical aspects and keep thinking to a minimum to keep your shooting instinctual. Whether you are shooting people or things, Mel will get you thinking in different ways to help stretch your photography muscles. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Mel Di Giacomo is amazing, as are his talks and his photos. Thank you so much, B&H, for sharing so that we in Europe (and 10 years later) can appreciate it.
I met Mel probably 20 years ago at a tennis tournament in Ohio. I talked with him whenever there was a break, and after the tourney, he continued to send me photo post cards of encouragement and inspiring photos. This is a great video. Thanks Mel.
Easy answer, Danny me lad. I took it in 1970 during the day. I used a red filter to darken the sky. I mentioned to a mate that I felt the Brits must prohibit people on the site. People were climbing on the rocks, scraping their names in the rocks, dogs defecating and urinating wherever they pleased, etc. Six months later the govt. put up a barrier. The camera was a Nikon, lens 24mm, film Tri X. Hope this helps. It's a unique moment. - Mel DiGiacomo
You are most welcome. We are glad you enjoy our presentations. While we only have our NYC Superstore, we do indeed sell and ship many of our over 300,000 products to Europe. Just shop on our website and pick your country from the drop down box and it will tell you at that point if we can ship the produts you chose to your location.
Thank you B&H so much for bringing this man to my attention. Mel DiGiacomo, sir, you are brilliant. May the Light Gods forever bless you!
Old time New Yorkers are poetry to watch and listen to. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for such a wonderful talk, so much knowledge and I could watch and listen all day - very inspiring!
Haha!!! I didn't sleep a single second .... Don't under estimate how many lessons are in there ... The one I retain at first is the humility you show... One of the keys for being a photographer ... To my opinion.
Dont say that man, you are a great photographer and was a pleasure to see your work from across the world. I love your work!
Fantastic presentation! I truly appreciate hearing from a photographer with such humor and insight to the joys of photography. Many lessons learned plus he gave me things to contemplate about my own outlook on shooting. Wonderful man!
I FELL ASLEEP WATCHING MYSELF. MEL DI GIACOMO
One of the best of B&H talks. Really enjoyed it and learned buckets!
First of all thank you B&H. Do you have stores in Europe as well? I would love to support you for all the amazing videos you put out the. Second: Thats the great thing about street photography. Every image comes with a story. And this guys seems to have a hell of a lot of stories to tell. amazing.
Loved how each photo has a story, very inspiring!
These videos are great! I'm buying from you guys just to support this type of work. Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Good job Maestro Mel...enjoyable.
Fantastic photographs presented with a truly riveting narration. Thank you for sharing your art and knowledge Mel.
Truly one of the greats. How often did he mention equipment or exposures? He works from the inside out making the camera less than important.
Any five of his images would make my career in photography. Great inspiration from a true artist.
Thank you Mr. DiGiacomo.
YOU BROKE MY HEART FREDO.
I Enjoyed this video, all the B&H stuff is great I learned a lot and Mell is a blast.
Very nice photos and Mel's explanations. Beaches, tennis tournaments, indoors and backyards shots, with some street photography. I think, this video might be better named as "Candid photography with Mel DiGaicomo".

Does anybody know which film was used in the rollercoaster shot?
How do I go about attending sessions such as this one?
i always answer questions poised by the audience.if you wish to know what speed film i was using, ask.i feel my function at B and H is to teach visual literacy.i know must enough technical invo to get by.you'll learn all you need to know by shooting.seeing needs practice.shoot and study the pictures of those photographers who laid the ground work.try these few.Koudelka,Kertesz,Klein,Brandt,Decarava.

Loved the first joke, hehehe
this training was on street photog. like so many others - he has nice pictures but this needs to be more than someone just showing off their photos - how about technique and styles and gear and approach etc. etc. - he did have good sense of humor which is nice - but for training so much more needed - please inform the instructors or presenters to include training not just a presentation - no dialog is needed for a slideshow :) - enjoy B&H sessions but many need to do more training, some do
Could not think of a bettter way to spend a gloomy Sunday afternoon
For daily photography indoor and outdoor, are you recommending xt1 with 27mm OR x100 with fix 23mm? (Priorities: portability as well as quality)
+mrz 1342 - Both cameras are great options and will deliver excellent image quality. I personally still shoot with the original X100 and love the camera. In terms of compactness and portability the X100 would be the better way to go as long as you don’t care to add any other types of lenses to it. If you have intentions of expanding your perspective later, the XT-1 is the better way to go. - Yossi
THERE ARE TIMES I’M NOT BIG ON IT.THAT WOULN’T STOP ME HOWEVER.IT’S NOT BAD TO FAIL.GET UP AND FAIL BETTER.

You still have a nice face, Mel
Brand the video with B&H logos and preface it with a 30 second B&H advery and then say the views are not those of B&H? Dishonest.
