    Update. Since shooting this video, I've relocated the factory head unit to the trunk. Much better option. Here's the video that explains what I did: th-cam.com/video/O9-XWGiB3lQ/w-d-xo.html

      Terry Mosher - hi
      I have a question. If i have a Honda Accord sport 2017, and i want to improve the sound system. Can you add an amplifier to the actual unit and just change speakers to a better brand?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fresh & Clean Love Yes you can add an amp and change out the speakers. I tried that at first. The problem is that the factory head unit has such aggressive processing to make up for the lack of tweeters in the Sport, that when you connect good speakers they will sound incredibly harsh. Plus there is very little on the low end coming from the factory unit so you will still be lacking bass.
      I tried a 5 channel amp, LOC, and a sub and it sounded OK. Had to turn the treble WAY down. By replacing the factory unit, not only did I get MUCH better sound quality, but I got CarPlay (which is what I was really after all along).

      Terry Mosher - awesome. Thank you for replying back to me.
      I guess that's something to consider. I just didnt want to replace the stereo unit, not that i like it that much , its okay i guess.
      Any good speakers that you can recommend? Any brands in specific?
      Again, thanks for taking the time replying back to me. I appreciate it :)

    I just used this info to get my stereo sorted in my "new to me" accord. Thank you Terry. May you RIP. For anyone wanting to try this, use this video, his newer one, and the thread on the Drive Accord forum to figure it out. You may also use the Metra Axxess ASWC-1 as I did to retain steering wheel controls. It works automatically after you wire everything up (at least it did for me with my Sony double din).

    Thank you so much! I'm getting my unit and entire system installed, thanks to your videos I knew what was possible before the the audio place did, they were trying to tell me I'd have to get a kit, and I told them what you did and they were like...oh... I could tell that they thought it was a good idea.

    This is very helpful video, I just did this in my 16 Sport with Pioneer 4200 head unit, just like Terry, I wanted the AppleCarPlay-AndroidAuto ready in my Sport. I also added a 5 channel amp and upgrade the front speakers, and since Sport models doesn't come with tweeters, I ordered a set of door garnish for the tweeters for EX above that way I have a place to mount the aftermarket tweeters that I had. Stay away from the Metra 99-7804B, I installed it but like he said, it's so buggy and you don't get all the features on your the iMid screen, so I took all of it out and return it.

    Thinking about upgrading my 2013 sport when you do this do you need any of the cables to support backup camera and steering controls? Or do I just remove the u it bury it in the cubby and hook up the aftermarket unit with whatever comes in the box?

    I took my 2016 honda accord sport to a stereo shop and they installed a brand new pioneer avic-7200nex but I'm really disappointed because my top monitor doesn't even turn on anymore and they said there is no hardness or anything they can do to fix the problem and I would like to know if there is s solution to this because I want to take my car back to them and make it fix it.

    This is exactly what i want to know, thanks. Do you really have to cut the box compartment in order to burry the OEM unit inside?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it all depends on how the back of your aftermarket unit is configured. For mine I had to cut the cubby down. I've talked to someone that was using a Sony and the way the wires connected to the back of their unit allowed a bit more room and they did not have to cut the cubby. You just have to take it apart and test fit to see what will work.

    • @richardvedvik979

      The ANC module is no longer needed when you bury the factory radio. We're just using the buried radio to control the 8" iMid screen, not for audio or BT.

  • @CitizenRC
    @CitizenRC 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the factory head unit just sitting inside the dash, does it rattle like crazy in there? I'm interested in doing this, but that's the only thing that keeps me from doing it.... just seems like you'd be able to hear it smacking around in there. Thoughts?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No rattles at all. It's stuffed in their pretty snug.
      But what I really wanted to do was extend it to the trunk but could never figure out how to extend the video cable that connects it to the upper screen (the iMid). But I've finally figured it out and plan on relocating the factory head unit from inside the dash to mounted in the trunk. So stay tuned. Should have it done in the next week or two.

    • @LuisC202
      @LuisC202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terry If you figure out how to mount it in the trunk i will be sold :).. Heck what about under the passenger seat?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under the passenger seat might work. I already have my amp there so that doesn't work for me. I've thought out other places but nothing obvious. Maybe over by the driver's side fuse box, tucked up under the dash? But I have a manual transmission so my clutch pedal might mean not enough room.
      I know this is possible - I talked to the tech at Car Audio Innovations who did it to his boss' Accord. So stay tuned for my video with detailed info on how.

    • @LuisC202
      @LuisC202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahh ok, I have an Audison Bit One in my 2015 Accord and an AudioCOntrol for using the line driver. Your solution is way better since my system sounds good with these 2 pieces but when I change sources for the Bluetooth to CD, etc. The sound is higher or lower,
      so i definitely will be doing this to my car and removing those 2 pieces.

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! From experience you have to get the Honda factory head unit out of the equation. It's just too hampered. Once you put a decent aftermarket head unit in, the sky's the limit. Very happy with the sound quality possible with my combo of Kenwood DDX9903S, NVX JAD900.5 amp, Polk Audio components and coax, and a JL 10" sub in my custom corner enclosure in the trunk. It's just amazing sound. And not possible with the factory head unit.

  • @anthonystucchi9020
    @anthonystucchi9020 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Terry, how do you keep power to factory head unit and bring power to the aftermarket unit? I also have a 2015 accord sport. Thanks

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      anthony stucchi built a harness that powers both. Factory and aftermarket head units share power, ACC power and ground.

      Metra 71-1729 Male Harness. You need 1 of these.

      Terry Mosher oh ok thank you very much for the link. does the steering wheel controls still work or did you need a separate adaptor. sorry just bought a after market unit and wanting to get everything in order before it arrives. any and all help is appreciated

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenroy Harris I am using the PAC SWI-CP5 steering wheel controller. Whenever you go aftermarket you have to purchase a steering wheel adapter. Either PAC or ASWC.

  • @match328
    @match328 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do u have to cut anything inside the dash to put in the factory head unit in?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out a better solution here: th-cam.com/video/O9-XWGiB3lQ/w-d-xo.html This extends the head unit to the trunk and gets it out of the dash.
      But if you still want to stuff it inside the dash, you just need to remove the ANC module which helps make room. And you have to make the opening that leads between under the climate control and the lower pocket by trimming a bit of plastic. Since none of this shows once you put the cubby pocket back in, nothing to worry about.

    hi terry ...is it wire harness to connect from the oem hu to the double din plug and play or u gotta mod ?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to make a custom harness. Not all that hard. You buy two Metra 70-1729 harnesses and one Metra 71-1729 harness. You have to buy 2 of the 70-1729 because they don't come with all of the pins populated so you have to steal pins from one to populate the other. You you create a custom harness that allows you to plug the Metra 70-1729 into your factory harness, the 71-1729 into your factory head unit, and provides power and ground to your aftermarket head unit. Even with that there are still a couple of solders you have to do. They are the HFL wire, illumination, parking sensor and amp remote turn on.

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. It's bigger and won't fit inside the dash without some serious cutting.
      But stay tuned because in a week or so I'm going to extend the factory head unit to the trunk. That will be a solution that will work for either the push button or the premium touch screen head unit.

    Does your phone have to connect to both head units via Bluetooth for everything to work? Phone and music?

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Craig Sweany The factory head unit is only connected to keep the upper display working. Bluetooth and everything else is turned off. All Bluetooth, phone, music, USB, etc is handled by the aftermarket head unit.

    • @swavey83
      @swavey83 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terry Mosher ok great. I was thinking that the factory mic wouldn't work if Bluetooth was only connected to the aftermarket head unit. I can't wait to do this to my 2015 Sport.

    • @fourmoshers
      @fourmoshers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Craig Sweany I removed the factory mic and put the aftermarket mic in the same spot where it used to be. I was hoping to use the factory mic with my aftermarket head unit but learned that you can't connect a factory mic to an aftermarket head unit.

      Hey Terry another question for you. Did you happen to bypass your factory amp located behind the glove box? I'm upgrading to an Android head unit with an amp and upgrading my speakers. The factory amp will not do well with these speakers so I need to bypass. However, there doesn't seem to be an adapter for our model of accord. At least not the 2015.

      This effort was innovative and Terry was one of the first to get an aftermarket radio in the car while maintaining the 8" iMid screen. He was also one of the first to relocate it to the trunk to allow easier access to controls (separate video). The buggy Metra kit wasn't even available at the time people were burying the head unit. Relocating head units isn't a new concept, even in the mid 2000's some cars had a lot of integration buried in the head unit and they had to be relocated.
