I think it's a fantastic lens for landscapes. Obviously it's not a fast lens like the 55-140mm f2.8, but I only use telephotos for landscapes and don't need it to be fast. For it's price, size and weight it's just a brilliant lens to have for landscapes and it's surprisingly sharp. These images were all taken with it: static1.squarespace.com/static/5852ece3e6f2e1ac624051fb/t/59e6674c0abd046808628de4/1508272449310/cadini+range.jpg?format=2500w static1.squarespace.com/static/5852ece3e6f2e1ac624051fb/t/585c5d891b631b5215d2469b/1483468328617/Bromo+mist+copy.jpg?format=2500w static1.squarespace.com/static/5852ece3e6f2e1ac624051fb/t/596a29f6414fb513abe73959/1500129792572/Belvadere+copy.jpg?format=2500w
Thanks for the links, Andy. The lens appears incredibly sharp for the price. More importantly, your composition for these photographs is the real deal.
Very nice no- nonsense review, first review I liked to watch without fast- forward, not the usual tech blabla and spec listing. You also know how to speak well. And this comes from a non native english speaker.
Man I really do hit the skip button on these other reviews. In reality all the answers we are looking for are 1 - Does it take great pictures? 2 - Does it take great video? Seems like it’s a “YES!” To both questions.
Thanks for creating this video. Your videos are well put together and are a valuable resource. I have both the XT20 and XT2. I feel that when I carry the more expensive XT2 and use it for a walk around camera, I don’t use it as much as the XT20. Maybe it’s hesitation to damage an expensive primary camera but I prefer taking the XT20 for street and travel. Just wish it was weatherproof
Dude, this was a great video and helped me a lot... I've watched too many comparison videos at this point, and watching more proved to be worth my time. Excellent work, by the way. Cheers!
Thank you for this very informational video. Love your in-depth reviews. Your photographs are very stunning! You just earned my respect and I'm looking forward for more videos like this.
Thanks Andy this is a great review and of the X-T20 using the T-2 as a comparison. I'm looking to change my camera at the moment from a very heavy dslr 1 main reason is the weight issues and pack size on long hikes. I've had a play round with the camera in the shop a few days ago, and this video of yours has really helped me. Loved the examples you choose using to in low light conditions. Many thanks!
Beautiful imagery! One minor con that annoys me with my X-T10 (which is also present in the X-T20) is that the 'A' mode and 'T' mode on the shutter dial is on the opposite ends and the dial doesn't continuously turn like the X-T2. It's just slightly cumbersome when switching from full manual to aperture priority.
Is there an upcoming video about x-t30? If not, could you allow me to place some questions. 1. The case with x-t2 and x-t20 is the same as the one with t3 and x-t30? Is x-t30 more suitable for street photography or perhaps x100 is more advanced in that area? At least, most comfortable to be used on that field. Thank you in advance for your advice and time! Best regards,
I’m just editing the XT30 review now. It should be up by the end of the week. As you said though, the XT30 is to the Xt3 what the xt20 was to the XT2. Same sensor and processor. Personally I feel the xt3 would be the best for street as it fits the best in the hand
Andy Mumford I am waiting with gratitude and interest the upcoming review. I am writing that with a peaceful mind of a person who has made the final decision. XT3 is covering perfectly all boxes, despite the merits of the rest. Without the intention of being too repetitive, thank you one more time! I owe you at least one breath-taking photo in this so short life! Kind regards,
Thanks, I need to finish processing that. I actually shot that when I was making a film about my workflow for images, from planning, shooting through to the final processing, so I'll be using that same scene in the next video.
What annoys me about the X-T20 (and I have an X-T2 to compare it with) is the fiddly SD card slot next to the battery. More often than just once has the spring-loaded card sprung out and landed on the floor (almost going through cracks in a wooden deck over water last time it happened). As you mentioned, I agree that the latch closing the card and battery compartment ought to snap closed rather than require a physical push to close it (usually awkward, because you'll be holding the battery or card in your hand while having to do so). Apart from that, image quality is great. I really enjoy your tell-ti-like-it-is videos.
Since they have also launched XT200. Now I am lil bit confuse with Fujifilm XT series. Can you help me with the difference between XT2 , XT20 and XT200 in every aspects? How they are different from each other?
To explain the differences between them would take quite a long comment, the best place you can find the differences is by looking at the specs. Basically the XT2 has more professional features (dual card slots, more advanced video features) and a tougher body. The XT20 is a more enthusiast camera, and the XT200 is a more entry level camera. I’ve never used the XT200 and it’s features do see a little basic to me.
Hi Andy, nice review.. But I need more information about the "color tone" or "color sciece" produced by xt20 vs xt2. I bought xt20 over xt2 last year because many reviewer said that the image quality is identical. But today I visited fuji store and tried xt2, compared the image produced by xt20 and xt2 with same setting side by side, and honestly i was a little bit shock by the result. In my eye, images produced by xt2 are more warm and rich color (same film simulation : classoc chrome). Any suggestion? Thanks
I am beginner, that woould be my firs camera. What standart lens you sugest me to buy in first kit? 18-55 or 16-50...or something else for basic universal start?
@@AndyMumford i know this is kinda of old of a video, but would it be a good alternative to an 80d? they are both great but for the same price i believe this is extremely worth
@@CrowMorder I'm a long time Canon shooter and I won't be giving up my 5Diii.. However, I am looking to buy a new apsc camera and so I thought the 80D or 7Dii would be the logical choice (I have lots of Canon glass).. but these Fujis offer way more bang for your buck.. right now on Amazon you can get the xt20 with the 18 55 for $900 !!!! and so even though it makes more sense for me to buy another Canon body that works with my lenses, flashes, triggers etc.. I can't do it, I'm going for one of these Fujis no doubt...
Thank you for your thoughts on the XT-20. I wish there was a camera store I could walk into where I could check these two cameras out. I am left to reviews such as yours. I was able to sort of look at at X-E3 yesterday at ImageDepot in Layton Utah but they only had one and refused to insert the battery so all I could do was hold it in my hand.
Glad it's useful Bill. I think with a camera like the X-T20 it's something you really need to test first as it is quite small and some people find that off-putting.
Thanks so much for the video and honesty around the pros and cons. I've invested in Sony but now am really considering a XT2 as a backup camera to fit a telephoto lens for landscape. Can you make a video on lenses some day as well? Thanks!
Hi Andy, Enjoyed you thoughts. I've recently got the xt20, having moved up from the X-E2. I love the 18mm because of it discreet size. I have the 23mm and love it but like carrying it around. Lens wise which lenses do you like? Thanks again.
I shoot almost all my landscapes with the 10-24mm and 55-200mm. I usually take the 18mm along to shoot video as it has a great field of view for talking to the camera (I don't have to worry about cutting my head off, but it's not so wide that it distorts), and that's about it for me with lenses.
It depends. The 18-55mm is the best lens, and the X-T30 is the best if you're going to shoot video, but the X-T2 is a fantastic camera of you're not worried about video
Andy Mumford Bro I have no idea this will be my first camera I need for it for my daily life and when going a trip .If you choose what will be your decision?
Lol. Is that a serious question? Well, I get back from sunset shoots the same way as I get there, and the same way I get to a sunrise scene before it gets light. By walking with a torch :-)
I haven't used one, no. I'm curious about it as a back up camera, but as the video implementation is so poor I'm not going to get one until a later version which shoots decent video.
@@AndyMumford yes it seems not the same sensor as xt3 or xt2 but IQ according to the The Art or Photograhy review is good it's a Bayer sensor with no AA filter. your right not sure why the made a camera with fully articulating screen and hampered the 4k video to 15fps.
How's the autofocus of the xt-20 compared to the xt-2? Not the customization on the menu of xt-2 but just using the af-s and just single point? Are both just the same?
Well, I'm not a great person to make a comparison as shooting landscapes I don't need fast AF. I often use manual focus, and for shooting landscapes I can't honestly say I've noticed a difference between the AFs on the two cameras.
Hi sir,i bought sony al6300 brand new nd after then i sold sony nd bought xt20 with xf 2.8 (18_55)mm lense .i like this camera specially portrait pictures calirty ...now i like xt2 because of your youtube videos.. and can u tell me which camera nd lense you use for youtube videos.
Thanks for the comment. It depends on the video...I usually put a list in the description of what I used for each video. I think I shot this with an X-T2 and XF10-24mm
I've never had any issues with the weather sealing on the X-T20 (or 30 or 10) and I've used them in all kinds of weather. Snow and cold in Norway and Italy, rain and waterfalls in Iceland and the Faroes
That was really helpful! Thanks a lot! If you had to choose between the Fuji xt20 and the Sony a6000 for landscape photography, which one would you go for? Thank you again ;-)
Hi Yuan, glad you liked it. For the Mavic shots I didn't do anything specific. The settings are at Sharpening +1, Contrast -1, Saturation 0 and I shoot in D-Cinelike.
Hi Samuel, thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video. The X-T20 is basically my back up and video camera, and as such I don't have an L-bracket for it like I do with the X-T2.
Hi David, thanks for the comment. The longest lens I've used with the X-T20 is the 55-200mmm, which is still a compact lens. I haven't tried it with the 50-140mm f2,8 but I'm not sure it would balance with a lens that size though.
Hi Andy! Thanks for good information about the camera! Im still in my thoughts of whats gonna be my backup-camera, this or the X-T2. Today I use my Nikon D4, like it a lot but kind of heavy (you know as a Nikon-user before) with the 70-200 lens or with my Sigma art 85. So, I shoot some weddings but also kids, family, landscape. Love travel as well so,,, need some advice as you have both this and the X- T2. Think I should go for the X-T-2? And whats your fav lenses?
Hi Jessica, thanks for the comment. Personally I'd pick up an X-T2 as for me the extra features and better grip make it a better proposition. It feels better in the hand, and things like the dual cards and bigger, brighter EVF are really important to me. It's bigger than the X-T20, and a little heavier, but in comparison with the D4 it's still going to feel incredibly liberating in how small and light it is (I well remember shooting weddings for 12 hours with a D3, 70-200mm and SB900 flash. By the end of the evening my wrist was killing me) In terms of lenses, it depends on what you prefer, everyone has preferences and mine is REALLY wide for landscapes and flexibility in my telephoto. I don't need fast lenses, so I'm happy with the 10-24mm and 55-200, which are really sharp and easy to carry around. If you want something faster, then the 16-55f2.8 is a great all round lens, and the 55-140f2.8 is very similar to your 70-200mm (if it's the f2.8 version). The 56mm f1.2 is a great portrait prime, similar to your Sigma. The 16mm f1.4 and 23mm f1.4 are both really sharp lenses.
Good video Andy, you need to do these more often. Perhaps you could do some tutorials, showing the camera in action rather than talking about what they can do. Many Fuji users stay clear of that 18mm as it is the worse lens they make. 16mm being the best but at the cost of bulk. I have the 23mm on my Xpro 2 and it will never be removed as I use it for street photography. I don’t want my sensor to get dirty, do you clean your own sensor? My 2nd camera is the XT2 but I only use it in studio mainly with the 56mm. My next lens is the 80mm macro, which I look forward to receiving.
Thanks, glad you like it. The next video, which I filmed pretty much at the same time as this, is going to be a tutorial with the complete workflow of an image, from planning through to the capture and processing. The 18mm is a lens I bought knowing it's limitations because I wanted something small to carry with me that I could shoot video with while I was using my main camera and lenses. However I think it gets a bit of a raw deal, it's really not a bad lens at all. The 16mm is a really fantastic lens which I've borrowed one a couple of times from Fuji, but for me it's not wide enough to use as a landscape lens (I like really wide lenses and look forward to the 8-16mm f2.8 next year) but too wide for a video lens where I'm filming myself talking. As I said though, the quality is superb. As for the sensor, yes I clean it myself with a rocket blower and an Artic Butterfly. Shooting landscapes and travel changing lens outside is unavoidable and sooner or later something will get onto the sensor, and when I'm travelling then cleaning it myself is pretty much the only option.
Thanks Andy. Got my XT-20 yesterday. I’ll have to get saving for some nice glass. Thanks for the other tutorials videos. Very helpful to a newbie like me.
Dear Andy, do you think that T20 still a good option now days? The price of T20 is very good and vs T30 don’t looks much difference for $$$, My opinion...
Thanks for the comment. It depends if you use video or not. The still images on the X-T20 and X-T30 are almost identical, but the X-T30 has much better video because it has F Log. If you just shoot stills then the X-T20 is a great option.
Love the video. I'm seriously considering the X-T20, but I have one question. How is it in the elements? Have you ever had any issues with a fujifilm camera that's not weather sealed?
Does it make sense to go from my current nikon d7000 to this xt-20? I'm planning on using it, at least initially, with vintage lenses because I think I can use the focus peaking feature without problem. My biggest concerns are the lack of weather sealing of the body and the smaller EVf if compared to the xt2. Should I still go for this one if the difference in price with a used xt2 is around 300-400€?
Hi Giovanni. To be honest for me the bigger EVF and the weather sealing alone are worth the extra for the X-T2, particularly if it's your main camera and you're going from a D700. It really depends on how important those features are for you in day to day shooting. The X-T20 is a fantastic camera, but if I'm only taking one camera with me, it will be the X-T2 90% of the time.
Andy Mumford first of all thank you for taking the time to answer me. I guess the right thing to do is to rent both cameras so that I'll see by myself if those differences are deal breaking for me. At the moment I find myself more oriented towards the xt-20 mainly due to the lower price which would allow me to keep my nikon setup to use it when I feel the need to. Cheers from Italy!
Hi Andy. I just discovered your work and this channell, and now knowing that you actually live in Portugal, I wanted to ask if you ever do any workshops here? I live up in the north, in Viseu, so I was wondering if you ever shot in this region. Cumprimentos, Paulo
The Sony is a great camera, although I can honestly say that I've shot with the X-T20 and before that the X-T10 for two and a half years and the lack of weather sealing was never a problem
Thank you for such a high quality comparison, specially with the photos in production. I´ve been watching a lot of these kind of videos and yours is by far the best cus of the image comparison ( Fuji vs. Nikon in another video) his helped we a lot in my decision to go with Fuji over a regular Canon or Nikon DSLR. I have a question: Im on a budget trying to get in to the Fuji system, should I get a used Fuji X-T1 with one prime lens or should I go for a new Fuji X-T10 with one prime lens and the kit lens 16-50 3.5-5.6 to get two lenses? Thank you for the great videos!
Thanks Johana, glad you like the videos. I'd recommend you pick up both cameras to see which feels best in your hand and which you like using best. If you go to your local dealer and check out the X-T2 and X-T20 they feel almost exactly the same in the hand as the X-T1 and X-T10 respectively and will give you an idea of which is more comfortable, the bigger or smaller camera, and how you feel about the smaller EVF on the X-T10. I've never used the 16-50 prime lens, but if you can get a copy of the 18-55 kit lens, that's a really superb lens
There is a very useful grip that adds just a nice amount of extra real estate for the hand which sells for about $20 Can as I recall on EBay from China. There is a cutout in the grip so that there is not an issue with the mic input or cable release. Also, one can get a nice little wrist strap with a neck strap for very few $. Also, it depends upon what lens is being used whether there is an aperture dial on the lens that one can actually see the f stops. Overall, I love using the Xt 20 with the four multi focal length lenses in my bag.
Hi Andy, thanks for doing this review. Am still confused should it be XT2 or XT20. What is your verdict on shooting star images with these 2 types compare to nikon full frame? Thanks
Hi Ita. Well, there's no difference between the XT2 and XT20 for star images, they're exactly the same (although the XT2 has bigger dials and is easier to operate at night). For Nikon full frame I can only speak about the D800 and D3. The D800 has slightly less noise at higher ISOs, but there isn't all that much difference. You certainly wouldn't see it in a web image or a print up to about 40cm
Hi Andy, I just moved from sony to fuji and the only concern that I have is the fuji raw files. Do you use iridient to convert your files or just LR? Ps. Very good videos, keep on the good work!!!
Hi, thanks for the comment. I just use LR to convert my RAW files. I have Iridient Transformer (which works as a plug-in in LR to convert files) but I almost never use it.
Hi Mark. The stabilisation is just Warp Stabiliser applied to the clip in Premiere Pro. The shots are all handheld - I keep the camera pressed against my face and my elbows tucked into my chest to keep the camera as steady as possible. The first shot is walking, so I did that on tip-toes, the "ninja walk", and for the other shots I simply started recorded while my weight was on one foot and I was leaning one way, then transferred my weight across to the other foot and sorted of swayed in the other direction as smoothly as possible. I also shoot at 60fps, then slow the clip down before applying the warp stabiliser, which makes it smoother as well. Thanks for the comment
Great video mate, am thinking about getting one as a travel camera, at home in Australia i shoot medium format film but to travel with such a camera will spoil my holiday and get me divorced, i think this could be a great little camera for that purpose, plus with the extra coin i can get some better glass.
Hi Allan That's not my tripod you see in the video, it's my colleagues and I'm not sure which model it is. I use a Gitzo Traveller when I'm going light and a Gitzo Mountaineer for seascapes.
Wow, your video quality is breathtaking! For X-T20, would you suggest shooting videos in 4K 30fps, 24fps or 1080p 60fps? I am planning to go to Kyoto end of this year and I want to buy X-T20 (not sure if it is too late) to shoot my very first travel video with my wife and baby girl. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, thanks you like the video and footage. I almost always shoot in Full HD (1920x1080) and 50fps which gives me an option to slow down the footage 50%.
Andy Mumford Thanks for your reply. So why not shoot at 60fps and 50% it to 30fps? Not cinematic enough? I also wonder how good is X-T20 1080p. I assume its 1080p will be clearer than its predecessor X-T10's 1080p? I got the impression that the 1080p from a 4K camera will be better than a 1080p camera, not sure if this is true.
Thank you for sharing your videos. I am a beginner and i would like to ask what lens would you recommend for a beginner like me.i am considering of getting 23mm f2 and be familiar with it but wanna make sure if i do the right thing.hehehe I am considering of getting the xt2 because of weatherproof since it will be my first and last to buy a camera. I am using it as a street photography and daily use. Can you suggest which lens to buy for a beginner/novice??? Thanks so much....
Thanks for the comment, glad you like the videos. It's difficult to recommend a lens as it depends on what kind of photography you do. The 23mm f2 is fantastic for street and portrait if you like prime lenses, but the 18-55mm kit lens is also really really good for it's price and gives you a little more flexibility in focal range (but you lose the shallow depth of field you get with a prime, which is great for portraits).
Andy Mumford thank you thank you very much... really appreciate it.im planning to get the 23 f2 and 18-55. From then on be familiar with it. Thanks again so much....
I completely understand that, the larger EVF is one of the things I miss most when I'm shooting with the X-T20. It also doesn't work so well if you wear glasses.
yes the xt2 has the iso dial and my xt20 not but i have the drive dial insted and dont need to og to the menus for adjustment so it boils Down to wat you prefere the dials to have
Thank you for a great video! I really enjoyed it! I am looking for a small camera easy to bring along and I am considering the Fuji xt 20, or would you recommend the xt 30 instead? Is it worth the extra money? And what lens would you recommend for a all round camera? (To start with. I will probably get more later)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. The X-T30 is almost identical in still image quality, so if it's just for photos then the X-T20 is a cheaper option. However, the X-T30 has much better video, so if you want to shoot video too I'd get the X-T30. As for lenses, the 18-55mm kit lens is a great place to start, and the new 16-80mm lens looks pretty great too.
Andy Mumford Thank you for your quick answer, I appreciate it! I really like what I see in the x-t series, it seems to be cameras that is easy to bring along with great quality. I take more pictures than videos so I am leaning towards the x-t 20. Thank you for your help!
Hi Sumit. That depends on the image, and it's not something I can answer easily or quickly. I import into Lightroom and ensure the exposure, shadows and highlights are how I want them. Then I export to Photoshop to work on contrast using Luminosity Masks, and finally, and colour adjustments are done with Nik Color Efex Pro.
I meant that touch focus (obviously) isn't something you can use when shooting with the camera against your face, and for that kind of shooting I missed having the joystick to be able to quickly select my focus point.
Ok. In the FW that is coming in november you will be able to use the EVF while changing the AF point with a finger on the touch screen. That is why I wondered if you already gotten that FW. (The same way that it may be done on the X-E3 i think.)
I have that update - actually I find it laggy - it takes a second or more to register that you have your finger on the screen while looking through the viewfinder - even if you have it set to 91 rather than 325 autofocus points - at least moving the point with the d-pad happens right away...and I would think that with landscape anyway using focus and recompose would not affect the parallax unless your focus point was very close up...
It's impossible to say...it depends what you want it for. The best lens for portraits is different from the best lens for street and the best lens for landscapes. I use the 10-24mm most often because I shoot lots of landscapes and I like it's range. But there are sharper Fuji lenses.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why more manufacturers don't put the threaded cable release option on the shutter button...or are they really THAT greedy to make you buy their electronic trigger? mmmmmm
Great video man, very in depth! I’ve had the x-t2 for roughly 6 months. Switched from Canon and Sony. Ergonomically, the camera is amazing. Video is tack sharp. But the photos are average... not too bothered about the noise, but it’s the muddy, watercolour, worming effect that really kills the images. My A7S performed much better in Raw, it was pixel perfect, the x-t2.. not so much.
Glad you like the video. Before Fuji I was shooting a Nikon D800E but I've only ever really noticed the worm effect on foliage and never in "hard" detail like cliffs or rocks. A lot of that can be got around by converting the RAW to TIFF in Irridient Developer (I use it as a Lightroom plug in).
Lightroom renders fuji raw files (raf) like a dogs dinner. It's a joke. Try the photo program iridient developer and do a side by side comparison on screen at 1:1 zoom. The difference is immense. Iridient also does a plugin for lightroom.
Chris G Thanks for the comment Chris. I've got the Iridient Transformer plug in for LR, and while sometimes I think it gives better detail, on other images it brings out too much noise, so I don't always use it. Personally though, I don't have too much of a problem with LRs rendering of RAF files, and 90% of the time I think it does a decent job
Fair play to you. Recently, I've been taking some pictures whilst it's snowing here in London, and I noticed LRs rendering actually removed some of the falling snowflakes completely. I found that pretty surprising.
The X-T20 is a fantastic camera. I've been using an X-T3 for a while now, but to be honest the X-T20 is such a good camera and there really isn't much noticeable difference in image quality
The video on the X-T1 is actually not bad at all, worse than a go-pro? hardly ... it's only useful manual focusing though, but quality wise, it's 1080p, and nice and contrasty. I think people get over hyped about 4K, most viewers will be watching on 720p phones ...
The issue with the X-T1 wasn't the lack of 4K (I tend to agree with you about it being overhyped and I rarely use it. I prefer to shoot in 2.7K or 1080 so I can shoot at 60fps), but the X-T1 and X-T10 produced severe artefacts that, at least for me, made them unusable as video cameras.
Fair enough, I don't really do much video, have been looking to M43 for that side if I feel I want to experiment a bit more. For me, Fuji cameras are not video specific, it's more an add on. I can get good enough video of the kids in the garden, or casual footage with nice old MF lenses [with a bit of practice] on the X-T1. I have thought about trading up to the XT20 but I have the battery grip for the X-T1 and love the feel of it. Just can't justify the cost of the X-T2 ... yet ;)
The panorama image is gorgeous.
Thank you :-)
Gone is my DSLR - just got the Fujifilm X-T20 mirrorless - to say I'm impressed is an understatement - it is amazing
It's a fantastic little camera. Have fun with it
Thanks Andy - got a blue shutter button, extra hand grip and wrist strap to customize it
The last image is utterly stunning. Looking forward to more videos from you, Andy.
Thanks. My next video is actually going to be the complete workflow for a landscape photo using the scene where I shot that last image.
That's great to hear, can't wait!
I noticed - the EXIF in the video shows you used the 55-200 lens. Your personal opinion on the lens, if I may ask?
I think it's a fantastic lens for landscapes. Obviously it's not a fast lens like the 55-140mm f2.8, but I only use telephotos for landscapes and don't need it to be fast. For it's price, size and weight it's just a brilliant lens to have for landscapes and it's surprisingly sharp. These images were all taken with it:

Thanks for the links, Andy. The lens appears incredibly sharp for the price. More importantly, your composition for these photographs is the real deal.
Still stunned by the production level. Thank you, Andy.
You can try using a small windshield to muffle the wind noise.
Thanks so much. Next time I'll just not shoot in such a windy place. This is only my 7th video I think, so I'm learning all the time :-)
he had a dead cat on the mic.. it was just too windy ;-0
Very nice no- nonsense review, first review I liked to watch without fast- forward, not the usual tech blabla and spec listing. You also know how to speak well. And this comes from a non native english speaker.
Thanks Bernhard, glad you like the video and found it useful.
Man I really do hit the skip button on these other reviews. In reality all the answers we are looking for are 1 - Does it take great pictures? 2 - Does it take great video? Seems like it’s a “YES!” To both questions.
The way you photograph the Italian Rocky Mountains is just lovely! Thanks for sharing Andy.
Thanks so much Luigi
One of most video compareson I have ever seen. Well done.
Thanks so much, glad you found it useful
I own both cameras as well and I agree with your analysis of them. Fantastic camera bodies!
Cheers Anthony, glad you liked the review
Thanks for creating this video. Your videos are well put together and are a valuable resource. I have both the XT20 and XT2. I feel that when I carry the more expensive XT2 and use it for a walk around camera, I don’t use it as much as the XT20. Maybe it’s hesitation to damage an expensive primary camera but I prefer taking the XT20 for street and travel. Just wish it was weatherproof
Can u tell me the difference use between xt20 n t2. I consider buying one but. And i am super confused
Dude, this was a great video and helped me a lot... I've watched too many comparison videos at this point, and watching more proved to be worth my time. Excellent work, by the way. Cheers!
Thanks Marcus, really glad you liked the video
Bless you Andy, you always have stunning videos and technical content is also top notch. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy the videos
Thank you for this very informational video. Love your in-depth reviews. Your photographs are very stunning! You just earned my respect and I'm looking forward for more videos like this.
Thanks loads, glad you like the videos.
Thanks for watching, glad you found the video useful
Beautiful imagery!
One minor con that annoys me with my X-T10 (which is also present in the X-T20) is that the 'A' mode and 'T' mode on the shutter dial is on the opposite ends and the dial doesn't continuously turn like the X-T2. It's just slightly cumbersome when switching from full manual to aperture priority.
Thanks Kris. I'd not actually noticed that with the A and T mode being at opposite ends. Seems like a strange design choice from Fuji
Finally I get a used xt-20 for my second camera x-t2, yes for still it was a good one, thanks for the reviews Andy, it helps a lot...
Thanks for watching, glad your kind it useful
How they compare in low light?
Beautiful. I am almost convinced to get the XT-20 after having sold my Sony A7Rii.
Thanks fo watching
why so?? The sony A7rii is an amazing camera buddy
@@tomasnogueira82 I've already sold the A7Rii. I loved it to death but I couldn't afford any good lenses for it so it was a bit of a waste.
Nice
The Landscape Shoots in the Alps looks like a lot like in Switzerland (Graubünden). It looks quite familiar....
Nice video, i like your field test as others sit in room and read the features ,thanks.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video
Another great video mate. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks Christopher
Kind regards,
Thank you very much for your reviews on XT2 and XT20, now I know which one i can choose :)
Thanks Kim, glad you like the videos
that last panorama was just perfect
Thanks
Sorry, I can’t understand why that would be. The sensor and image processor is identical in both cameras so there should be no difference.
is fuji x t20 lens size is equal to my nikon dx lens or smaller
I don't know how big the Nikon is so I can't answer that question
I am beginner, that woould be my firs camera. What standart lens you sugest me to buy in first kit? 18-55 or 16-50...or something else for basic universal start?
The 18-55 is a really good lens to start with.
Great video. Have you tested them for astrophotography/low-light performance? How do they compare?
The X-T20 and X-T2? The sensors are identical so they'll handle low light performance identically.
Thanks so much for the video and honesty around the pros and cons. I've invested in Sony but now am really considering a XT2 as a backup camera to fit a telephoto lens for landscape. Can you make a video on lenses some day as well? Thanks!
Qiwei Liu funny that I have the exact same problem as you
Thats just a superb review! You helped me a lot with my decision.. thanks (:
Thanks so much, glad you found it useful
Hi Andy, Enjoyed you thoughts. I've recently got the xt20, having moved up from the X-E2. I love the 18mm because of it discreet size. I have the 23mm and love it but like carrying it around. Lens wise which lenses do you like? Thanks again.
I shoot almost all my landscapes with the 10-24mm and 55-200mm. I usually take the 18mm along to shoot video as it has a great field of view for talking to the camera (I don't have to worry about cutting my head off, but it's not so wide that it distorts), and that's about it for me with lenses.
Nice video fuji x-t20 with 18-55 or x-t30 with 15-45 or x-t2 with 15-45 better?
Maybe the X-T30.
Andy Mumford thank you 😊
This was a really informative video! Thanks!
Thanks, glad you found it useful
Soo guys, if Andy is up on a mountain for sunset, how does he get down before it gets dark? :x
Lol. Is that a serious question? Well, I get back from sunset shoots the same way as I get there, and the same way I get to a sunrise scene before it gets light. By walking with a torch :-)
the only review I need to make a freakin decision. Thank you. Subbed~!
Thanks, glad you found the review useful
Andy have you had a look at the x-t100 love to get your thoughts on that for landscapes?
I haven't used one, no. I'm curious about it as a back up camera, but as the video implementation is so poor I'm not going to get one until a later version which shoots decent video.
@@AndyMumford yes it seems not the same sensor as xt3 or xt2 but IQ according to the The Art or Photograhy review is good it's a Bayer sensor with no AA filter. your right not sure why the made a camera with fully articulating screen and hampered the 4k video to 15fps.
Great Video and thanks for the review. I use a X-T20 and underwrite all the points. It's a great camera, produce great images in a compact sized body.
Cheers, glad you liked the video
@@AndyMumford thanks for the reply ,i really appericate your work..
I mean, might as well get an x20 and use the savings for glass.
That's what I thought , it's the glass that makes it , or so the beginner books tell me 😂
This is really a good camera! thanks for the overview!
Thanks John. Glad you like the video
Great review again, and love your photos...the Fuji cameras definitely interest me for when I'm ready to move from my 80D and (heavier!) Canon gear.
Thanks Andrew, glad you enjoyed the video
Hi Andy! You mentioned that you brought the Fuji X-T20 on a camping trip to Iceland, does it make a difference without the weather sealing?
I've never had any issues with the weather sealing on the X-T20 (or 30 or 10) and I've used them in all kinds of weather. Snow and cold in Norway and Italy, rain and waterfalls in Iceland and the Faroes
Adore my XT20, it comes everywhere with me. You should give the samyang 12mm a pop. That last panorama is exquisite...
Thanks Thomas.
That was really helpful! Thanks a lot! If you had to choose between the Fuji xt20 and the Sony a6000 for landscape photography, which one would you go for? Thank you again ;-)
Thanks, glad you found it useful. I can't offer a opinion as I've never used the Sony
Amazing video! How did you get such a crisp picture with the Mavic for the opening and closing shot?
Hi Yuan, glad you liked it. For the Mavic shots I didn't do anything specific. The settings are at Sharpening +1, Contrast -1, Saturation 0 and I shoot in D-Cinelike.
This is blowing my mind, was it shot in 4k?
Thanks again :-) I shoot in 2.7k
Great video! What kind of L-bracket do you use for the x-t20?
Hi Samuel, thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video. The X-T20 is basically my back up and video camera, and as such I don't have an L-bracket for it like I do with the X-T2.
Good video - couple of questions: What is the longest lens you feel comfortable with on the X-T20 and - you make DNGs and process from there?
Hi David, thanks for the comment. The longest lens I've used with the X-T20 is the 55-200mmm, which is still a compact lens. I haven't tried it with the 50-140mm f2,8 but I'm not sure it would balance with a lens that size though.
Very nice video😊 can you help me, which one better, 23 mm f2 or 23 f1.4 r or 35 mm f2 ? Thanks so much
Hi, glad you like the video. Sorry, I can't recommend one of those lenses as I've not used any of them
By the end of the evening my wrist was killing me)
In terms of lenses, it depends on what you prefer, everyone has preferences and mine is REALLY wide for landscapes and flexibility in my telephoto.
Thanks for the reply Andy.
Hi Andy. Nice video. Can I ask which lens you used for those great landscapes on the xt-20? Which ones you would recommend. Thanks in advance.
Hi Lyndon. I use the 10-24mm and 55-200mm almost exclusively for landscapes.
Thanks Andy. Got my XT-20 yesterday. I’ll have to get saving for some nice glass. Thanks for the other tutorials videos. Very helpful to a newbie like me.
Hi Andy. How do you deal with dust getting on the sensor when changing lenses on mirrorless cameras?
Funny you should say that. I'm planning a video on sensor cleaning for sometime in the next month or so.
That's awesome! It's one of the things that scare me about mirrorless..
@@AndyMumford thanks Andy...I most shoot and just take casual videos...
Love the video. I'm seriously considering the X-T20, but I have one question. How is it in the elements? Have you ever had any issues with a fujifilm camera that's not weather sealed?
Hi Colin, thanks for the comment, glad you like the video. I've not had any problem with the X-T20 or any of the non WR lenses in rain or spray.
Cumprimentos,
Paulo
Hi Paulo.
Sadly no, I don't do workshops in the north of Portugal.
This or A6300?
I really love the look and feel of xt20 but No weather sealing :(
Sony A6300 has weather sealing and costs the same..
The Sony is a great camera, although I can honestly say that I've shot with the X-T20 and before that the X-T10 for two and a half years and the lack of weather sealing was never a problem
Andy Mumford the lenses also seems to be an issue...very costly tbh, this fprces me towards nikon or canon
PM7Gaming i
I've had both, prefer Fuji X much more, except for the grip. Ugh!
Thank you!
Andy Mumford thank you for your reply. Much appreciated! :)
Andy Mumford thanks for your prompt response. I guess I will stick with LR for now!
What post production stabilization do you use? That looked terrific? Were you doing it handheld?
Thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video
What tripod is it you are using from Benro ?
By the way great video!
Hi Allan
That's not my tripod you see in the video, it's my colleagues and I'm not sure which model it is.
I've just subscibed to your channel, loving your content , thanks
Thanks so much
Thank you for sharing your videos.
Question again i know this is not related to your video may i ask what sd card you are using ans how much memory would you recommend.thanks again....
I use Sandisk Extreme cards, usually 32GB
Andy Mumford thanks so much for the reply
will Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm VR zoom lens work with this one?
No, the mounts on Fuji and Nikon are different.
Very helpful - thanks.
My reason for not opting for XT20 is smaller eyepiece. XT2 is better for my eyes. I tried in the shop and found XT20 extremely difficult to operate.
I completely understand that, the larger EVF is one of the things I miss most when I'm shooting with the X-T20. It also doesn't work so well if you wear glasses.
Very useful video! Thank you :)
Thanks Andrea, glad you found it useful
Can you set it to eye auto focus or continuous eye AF?
By eye focus, do you mean face recognition? Yes, it has that, as well as Continuous AF.
Andy Mumford i mean like eye AF like to sony systems have
yes the xt2 has the iso dial and my xt20 not but i have the drive dial insted and dont need to og to the menus for adjustment so it boils Down to wat you prefere the dials to have
Thank you for a great video!
Andy Mumford
Thank you for your quick answer, I appreciate it! I really like what I see in the x-t series, it seems to be cameras that is easy to bring along with great quality. I take more pictures than videos so I am leaning towards the x-t 20. Thank you for your help!
Wow stunning photos
Thanks :-)
what app do you use for editing?
I use Lightroom CC for editing
Amazing video but audio is really lagging this time round :(
very good video, informativ and interesting
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
How do you process your raw images?

Your images look amazing
Thanks Denis
What do you mean with touch focus when you have the camera up to your eye?
Do you have a newer FW than the rest of us?
I meant that touch focus (obviously) isn't something you can use when shooting with the camera against your face, and for that kind of shooting I missed having the joystick to be able to quickly select my focus point.
Ok. In the FW that is coming in november you will be able to use the EVF while changing the AF point with a finger on the touch screen. That is why I wondered if you already gotten that FW. (The same way that it may be done on the X-E3 i think.)
Ah I see. I hadn't heard that about the firmware update and I haven't had the chance to use an X-E3, but that might be interesting.
Good review thanks.
Cheers
What is the best fujinon lense in your opinion sir?
It's impossible to say...it depends what you want it for. The best lens for portraits is different from the best lens for street and the best lens for landscapes. I use the 10-24mm most often because I shoot lots of landscapes and I like it's range. But there are sharper Fuji lenses.
This or a6300?
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why more manufacturers don't put the threaded cable release option on the shutter button...or are they really THAT greedy to make you buy their electronic trigger? mmmmmm
Thank u for this :)
Cheers, hope you found it useful
Cheers Stefan
Pretty slick

A lot of that can be got around by converting the RAW to TIFF in Irridient Developer (I use it as a Lightroom plug in).
nice Rab jacket
Thanks. It's an awesome jacket
Beautiful video BTW
If you got your hands on any Sony APSC cameras such as nex7 or a6x00, you will know that the grip thing is not due to size but design work
Man everybody praising xt-3, i guess for me xt-20 or even X-T100 will be enough for photos.
The X-T20 is a fantastic camera. I've been using an X-T3 for a while now, but to be honest the X-T20 is such a good camera and there really isn't much noticeable difference in image quality
Forget the grip and get a thumb grip that slips in the accessory shoe.
where can i buy that?
I got mine from eBay. Or Google "thumbgrip x-t20" You need the one with a kink in the arm, to avoid clashing with the camera buttons.
Just can't justify the cost of the X-T2 ... yet ;)
Feels terrible in the hand.
Xt20 is more plasticy than xt2 is metal feel. Focus speed is also a lot faster in xt2. Double memory slot, capture more details in xt2
Vincen Cohan the sensor is the same thing n both cameras as well as the processor. The image quality is the same.
They updated the focus speed aswell so no difference there anymore.
