    Thanks again Kevin. Travis picking is a gateway to so many classic acoustic hit songs. It’s so easy to sound good just noodling once you get the patterns down.

    He Kevin - I just got my email from you, little history of myself - I’m 68 (soon to be 69 LOL). I have been playing tenor and baritone ukuleles 7 years and my husband surprised me with a Zager easy play guitar for Christmas, so I dive right in to playing and loving it so now I’m try to fingerpick and it’s not going the greatest and by a miracle I found you on TH-cam 😉😁 - I spent the morning going through some of your songs and you are so easy to follow so I think I’m back on track. I have been playing a lot of country tunes and gospel tunes already and was happy to see you do more of the oldies rock. Thank you and bless you for all you do.

    Thank you. MY Son has been playing the Bass and Guitar for 10 years. He loves it so much. He was stricken with Schizophrenia and stopped playing. I went and purchased a Drum Set and began to learn the Drums, Bass and Electric Guitar just so we could play together. I have been playing for about a year now, practicing five to ten minutes a day ( I work a lot of hours). We play together Fridays and Saturdays. Thank you for showing us in such a calm and practical way.

    Kevin
    I like your lesson. Thanks.
    For some reason I find it easier and natural for me to do a two finger thumb and index Travis picking. Will that give me the same sound as the three finger method you're doing? Do you have a two finger lesson?
    Again thank you

    • @Relaxandlearnguitar

      It can. Just have to move your fingers more because your index finger plays different notes too. If it sounds good it is good. :). I don’t have a lesson on that yet.

    Hey Kevin, I've watched Merle pick and like John prine. It looks like they only use their Thumb and index. Can you have a look at this.

    • @Relaxandlearnguitar

      You are right. I find that way a little more advanced. This is more of a beginner lesson. Good place to start. Have another Travis picking lesson in the works that sounds more Prine.

    • @garvdarb

      @Relaxandlearnguitar Ha! I'm just trying to get into a bit of picn and thumb n index seems so much in the KISS that I like for me. (Keep it simple Stupid) system that I rely on!

    Why do half the video teach the bass alternating differently? The other half teach 5,4,6,4 for a C etc instead of 5,4,5,4 Which way is correct?

    • @Relaxandlearnguitar

      Both are correct. The alternating bass is for folks further along.

  • @marciahammond9735

    Some teachers do 5243
    You do 5342
    Does this matter? Will I not get confused later on?

    • @Relaxandlearnguitar

      Both are correct. There are different patterns. Travis picking is when you alternate those bass strings with the high strings.
