- A Clip from a section of the all night "TV Hell" that ran back in the summer of 1992. This features the "worst" of Mastermind with nice post mortems from the people involved back in the 1970's.
Best gag is a teacher who has the lowest score ever and whenever he would ask a kid in school a question they would respond with "pass"...brilliant! - บันเทิง

The bloke comparing the experience to a KGB interrogation isn't a million miles from the truth. The man who devised Mastermind based it on his own experiences when captured and interrogated by the Gestapo during World War II

'Lowest living Mastermind scorer' - compared to some of the dense contestants (and their subjects) in the current editions he is a proper mastermind!
I used to watch this series very often in the 80,s,it was an absolute classic.
I loved the title music,the famous "I,ve started,so i,ll finish" catchphrase + that comfy looking black chair. :-D

This programmed was supposed to be intimidating. Surviving the atmosphere was part of the test.
It must be difficult enough for the contestants on "University Challenge" or that old series "Top of the Form" to come up with the answers -- given that almost all of them are unused to bright lights and being on national television -- let alone a show like "Mastermind", where the lighting resembles that of a room in a prisoner-of-war interrogation*! I tend to be charitable towards guests who give moronic answers on gameshows (although I will say that those on "The Newlywed Game" did tend to be ESPECIALLY lacking in brilliance -- I remember one rerun that I saw at age 14 in which not ONE of all eight of them knew what the prefix "pseudo" meant!) -- "there but for the grace of God go I" under such nervewracking circumstances, I tend to think -- particularly when one is unused to them. (Lights, cameras, and the knowledge that the entire nation is watching can turn many folks into babbling imbeciles.)
*Well, like the ones in the movies, at least -- it has been my good fortune to have never been a prisoner-of-war: and, given my sex, the contingency is a highly remote one -- so I certainly can't speak from experience (and I doubt that these things are usually filmed: the recollections of the soldiers would be almost the only thing one would have to go on...).

I'm not sure what it is but there's something about the woman in the long white dress that I quite like. Maybe it's because she seemed so timid I just felt like putting my arm round her and saying don't worry, you won't faint.
I can learn could never pass exams had a mental blockage on the day yet I've good general knowledge on a few subjects I think you can be articulate and bright even if you don't do well at school sadly some disagree but it's like being on a show like people get nervous and fail at mastermind people are the same with exams it's sad we are not fools it's just how a mind works

General knowledge round is such a lot of subjects you are bound to get quite a few wrong
love mastermind if i get 2 or more right in the general knowledge round i feel quite smart. Plus sometimes this score is a good indication of how my week is going to go. Based on the concept that if your going to have a shit week, then everything you do or touch, usually turns out shit. So the higher the score ....for this reason i like celebrity mastermind, their questions are usually easier, and i usually aim for about 4 right to have a good week.
Poor buggers -- this is so painful - funny though, never thought they'd be nervous as they wanna be there - Glaswegian commentary was piss funny...id choose scottish Munroe's for specialist subject - might get half a dozen right..

Mastermind is worth watching as a test of people's memory but memory is just a component of intelligence as a whole, so I do think that the programme title is misleading.

Just to let you know, he WASN'T the lowest scorer. A man called Robin, married to a dominating woman called Heather, who owned a guest farmhouse in the Lake District, went on there a few months after we'd spent a fortnight with them on holiday and he scored ZERO POINTS!!!
