I'm not so sure about this. I actually found the general knowledge questions here easier than on modern 'Mastermind.' That said, people do definitely pick easier specialist subjects these days (TV shows in particular), though this could be strategic. I doubt we'll see many more categories like "Opera 1500-1900" like the earliest years of the programme.
Some of the questions are too vague. What is a butt and ben, a torchere, persiflage... there's a variety of acceptable answers to each of these and the host invariably wastes time giving further explanation, even after the contestant has given an acceptable answer.
