My Mum and Dad went to see Ken Dodd several times. My Mother was in a wheelchair in the disabled section of the Theater. At the end of each show, before he went off and did anything else, Ken would come to where the disabled people where and speak to them and their Family or carer. He'd make a big fuss over any of the disabled. He'd do things like remember their names and call them it next time. He'd crouch down and hold their hands and make them feel special. When he'd see my Mum in the audience, he'd incorporate something about her into his act and make her laugh and laugh! He said to my Mum that he knew it took a lot to get out of the house and come to a show when a person is not well, and needs a wheelchair. Ken Dodd was not just a brilliant comedian from my Home Town of Liverpool, but a wonderful very kind Man. He made my dear Mother very happy. I thank God for his life and work.

I realised at a very early age just how good he was. I went to see him at the Opera House in Blackpool as a 12 year old. As I sat waiting for the lights to dim I looked at the audience. It seemed to be filled with dour hard faced men. I remembered that this was “Scottish fortnight” when the pits closed in Scotland and the miners invariably came to Blackpool. These were obviously hardened Scots miners. I thought that they were going to be a difficult audience for anyone! After 4 hours or so the lights went back on and all I could see was Scottish miners with tears rolling down their faces!
Every time I see him on the tv,or vids posted on the internet,I feel proud to have had the pleasure of working on 3 of his shows, and the privilege of chatting to him afterwards, and I just admire, the time he has for people, who have sometimes waited until 2-3am.up to 2 hrs after his show finishes..he is interested in people, especially if anyone wants to be a comedian, or go into the business..he is very encouraging, and his theatre knowledge is so amazing to listen to...and no matter how many times I watch the same jokes, gags, he will always make me laugh, and make me smile..he is one of the last of the true "Old School" entertainers on the stage..his Knighthood was long overdue..and now at 90,in his own words."The Doctor said I`m a one -off,theres no cure"..a one-off he is..and he cures the audience`s blues, with laughter..
I was lucky enough to spend an hour backstage with Ken Dodd prior to one of his shows. What a lovely, wonderful man. I can watch him over and over, and I still laugh till I cry. I loved him so much.❤❤❤

A great comic who will be sorely missed, thank God for recorded episodes like this that we can enjoy for many years. The best thing about Doddy was, he was clean.....no swearing, no vulgarity, a tad inuendo-ish but compared to todays comics, he had talent that would surpass the best. My favourite joke he told was: The invention 'Cat's Eyes' for the road, reputedly came from a man who saw a Cat at night on a dark lane, his car lights reflected back at him by the Cat's eyes. They say, if the Cat had been facing the other way, he would have invented the Pencil Sharpener........ How tickled I am.....!
Ken wone of our best commediens ever A propper Liverpudlian commedian..Thank you for all your entailment. In 1963 in Omagh county Tyrone while in the army I used to listen to ken dodd on the radio on a Saturday afternoon.I found him to be a very funny man. He did not swear or use profanities he was just absolutely funny.. Good memories from long ago. Thank you Ken today's so called comieddians are not a patch on you . Anybody who wants to see a propper Liverpudlian commedian should whatch ken dodd .
He wouldn't have been allowed to swear on the radio, although he didn't need to use profanity. In the early 60's there were strict rules on what comedians could say and which topics were taboo. Those restrictions made comedians and writers work extra hard to generate laughs; it meant they had to really know their craft. I don't think we'll see the likes of him ever again.
"how tittyfalarious is that !" " What a wonderful day for shoving a cumcumber through your neighbours letterbox and screaming, Ethal run for your life the martian`s have landed !!"
+fatbelly27 He famously went straight from the court to the stage and walked out on stage opening his act with "My name is Kenneth Arnold Dodd, Singer, actor, comedian and failed accountant"

Ken was born in 1927. In the Naughties when I saw him perform in Frome I had the strong sense of going way back in time. Not music Hall as that was largely musical but Variety? Quite different to Stand Up - no politics, no anger, more like a wry look at the world. It felt rather 'end of an era'. Very glad I saw him.
The Great Master of his Craft, I am embarrassed for some of the people today who think they are funny and their audiences. He worked so hard throughout his life sometimes on stage for up to 5 hours. an Incredible human being on and off the stage.
Went to see Sir Ken Dodd at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. So so glad I did. He was bloody brilliant. We asked the Car Parking Attendant what time the Car Park closed and his reply was "When Ken Dodd decides to go home". 5 and a half hours later he was still going.😂
Saw him at Bournemouth Pavilion about 8 years ago & with advancing years he could still command the stage, & they could get him off! An absolute class act.
The last f the old Greats now gone. An era is over but what a wonderful legacy of comedic moments. Thanks Ken. Every five hour show was a wonderful privilege to attend. Fabulous!
I was lucky enough to meet Ken on several occasions and he always made me feel well and full of plumptiousness which prompted me to tell him "people should be able to get you on prescription" definately the funniest man that ever lived.
Saw him on stage in Darlington Civic absolutely brilliant. Also saw in coming out of his hotel next day wish I had taken the chance to say hello and how I had enjoyed the show, but he looked tired so did not trouble him. i
Thanks for this Deano Essex, great to see again. I remember my dad saying how Ken would stay on stage WAY past the time he was expected to finish, talk about good value!
My mates dad used to write jokes for Ken. I remember him ringing one day asking for one-liners about slip-on shoes. I asked 'how do you know if he uses them or not' (he only paid if he used them) my mates dad replied 'because he is honest'.

God Bless you Doddy. Rest in Peace. The world is a sadder place without you.......
A great comic who will be sorely missed, thank God for recorded episodes like this that we can enjoy for many years.
The best thing about Doddy was, he was clean.....no swearing, no vulgarity, a tad inuendo-ish but compared to todays comics, he had talent that would surpass the best.
My favourite joke he told was:
The invention 'Cat's Eyes' for the road, reputedly came from a man who saw a Cat at night on a dark lane, his car lights reflected back at him by the Cat's eyes.
A brilliant man. What a legend of comedy.
In his 80s there and still on the button! A brilliant and funny man 😂
Ken can just stand up...people will laugh..R.I.P Ken...
He had an incredibly alert mind for someone in his 80s.
90s
in his nineties?
@@trevord1787 no 87 in 2014 ..passed last year age 90
That's what you get when your working and doing gigs almost every day right up until he was ill and died soon after. God rest his soul .
A true performer.
Funny man, decent singer, great character, how many of today's ' comedians' will be remembered with such affection?
A one off, never to be seen again, was Doddy.
King of comedy sir ken Dodd -knotty ash Liverpool
Best value for money show ken dodd.just brilliant only comedian who could have held an audience captive fir over 3 hours straight brilliant.
Mr Dodd was the master of humour, we were all lucky to be alive in his era.
Doddy is a legend and unique in this modern crap filled world
+Jeff Jones You are right, this guy has entertained millions for so long, he deserves a knighthood for his servicesto the world of entertainment.
+Gary Dunn He has an OBE but will never get a KBE because of his tax fraud conviction :-(
"how tittyfalarious is that !" " What a wonderful day for shoving a cumcumber through your neighbours letterbox and screaming, Ethal run for your life the martian`s have landed !!"
+No Comment He uses a line on stage: 'When income tax was first brought in , it was one penny in the pound. I thought it still was'
+fatbelly27 He famously went straight from the court to the stage and walked out on stage opening his act with "My name is Kenneth Arnold Dodd, Singer, actor, comedian and failed accountant"
I love the fact John Humphries was laughing at the answers from Ken in the pecialist round!
His singing voice Happiness brings Tears to my Eyes in a most wonderful way Legend 🎩
Legend The King of comedy in my opinion, miss him so much, thank you so much for all the laughter and happiness you gave me growing up, you were and always will be my hero, tatty bye Doddy ♥️🌹🙏❤️❤️🌹🌹
Sadly i missed out on his final performance in Torquay. THE KING of comedy RIP Sir Ken!
My favourite was “ what a wonderful day, what a wonderful day for sticking a cucumber through a letterbox and shouting ‘the Martians are coming’…. ( or similar…must Google it, but I think it was attributed to him)
…it was through the VICARS letterbox! 😂
@@MrAronRobinson Even better!
A truly wonderful man..♥️
Ken was born in 1927.
Saw him 5 times couldn't stopping belly laughing even when I got home hours after 😊😊😊
when my husband and I went to see him, the couple in front of us got out a flask and sandwiches!
Ken was just funny. One of our greatest ever comedians.
I miss Ken so much ,one the most amazing theatrical performers of all time x
Very witty man and a gentleman. No idea why the algorithm threw it up there, but I'm fine with it.
Fabulous!
John Humphrys trying to play the usual stoic quizmaster role but enjoying being in presence of a comedy legend.
I was lucky enough to meet Ken on several occasions and he always made me feel well and full of plumptiousness which prompted me to tell him "people should be able to get you on prescription" definately the funniest man that ever lived.
Me too I met him 5 times. He was a comic genius.
I remember my dad saying how Ken would stay on stage WAY past the time he was expected to finish, talk about good value!
dynamo of supercharged laughter i miss him dearly
amazing guy, a legend. i love his shows :)
My mates dad used to write jokes for Ken. I remember him ringing one day asking for one-liners about slip-on shoes. I asked 'how do you know if he uses them or not' (he only paid if he used them) my mates dad replied 'because he is honest'.
