Wogan did the floral dance because charity shops need some worthless vinyl to hold on to, and that ones sure to never ever shift! Although it would be nice if another square character like alan partridge did a version of it! I'd buy it!!!!

The Orville song, the Smurfs effort and There's No-one Quite like Grandma were musically the worst- although at least they were all made for kids.
However, for Jonathan King's musical output and the various Spurs football songs in particular there is no conceivable excuse. The Two Sleepy People was the gloopiest love song I've ever endured- I never knew Chris Langham ever sang in drag. And who told Roussos to sing that song in that key?
We've just suffered through a few of these in the TOTP197x run on BBC4...

@ Richard Weir: Phillip and Vanessa weren't the only ones to use 'frigidaire' in their lyrics. Dana sang the line 'freezing in your frigidaire' in her 1979 hit 'Something's Cooking In The Kitchen'.
Dean and the Weenies had the line "You'd look cooler if you wore a Frigidaire" in their song "F*** You."

There was the routine for Status Quo's Living On An Island during the Pan's People/Legs & Co bit! The one where Queen Elizabeth 1 and other historical characters are dancing on a map of the UK.
I defintitely must have watched this at the time. I knew I remembered Man from Nazareth, I Remember Elvis Presley and the Johnathan King stuff from some show or other when I was a kid. This show must've had a big impact on 8 or 9 year old me at the time as I have had a fondness for the cheesy hits ever since and many of the featured tracks are on my iPod and regularly played (did I just admit to that in public :-o ?).
I've only got to "Grandma" and I'm spewing. It comes flooding back, and up, and flying out my geggie! Can I carry on through Terry W? Yes, and it only got worser! Some true classic shite here, although there are plenty of songs that just didn't make it. Maybe we could revive John Peel and have the Top 10 of Pathos ("Honey" has to be Nº 1) and the Top 10 of Crashes (e.g. Leader of the Pack, Dead Man's Curve, Terry). Anyway, many thanks for ruining my week! :)

I was born in the week "forever and ever" by demis roussos got to number 1 in mid july 1976! Thanks demis couldn't I have arrived a week earlier and then it would've been "you to me are everything" by the real thing, which I know isn't much better but it would've been easier to admit to than that drossy crooner crap!! Still could've been worse! I REALLY feel for anyone born in the week renee and renalto got to the top! Poor bastards!!!! And it was a christmas number 1!!!!

John Peel's TV hell?! - doesn't really make sense does it - none of this has anything to do with Peely - it's common knowledge (to me) that Peely hated certain bands and the three that come straight to mind are (cue fanfare) - The Police, Dire Straits and U2 - and I hate them too - why aren't these on here?

Why do you hate those 3 bands you mentioned? Is it because they started off as underground bands and ended up becoming mainstream? The same boring old story that I see many early Genesis fans think as well, all I can say is it’s much better to open your mind to everything, that way you’ll get to enjoy much more.

U2 had some ok songs but it is far from their punk roots they strayed, often into bland garbage, and Dire Straits were just kinda meh. all their songs sound the exact same, and what they sound like is bland cod reggae. in fairness that's Just My Opinion and you're entitled to yours, but i'll also point out that popularity isn't an indication of quality, especially during the age of heavy promotion/payola in the UK
I think it's what you are universally meant to find excruciating, I don't personally like any of these songs except Toto Coelo I Eat Cannibal which was er incredible lol! There's some bands and singers around that I personally find unlistenable and cringe that lots of people think are brilliant, as well.

You have to take into account that when yo u get to a certain age you stop liking the modern music, I like mostly the older heavy rock songs but like new stuff asswell

The songs here came out when John was in his 20s, 30s and 40s.
Nobody in radio played as many modern, new songs as John did.
My original point was that John liked, or at least played modern, new unlistenable rubbish which was worse than the so-called rubbish listed here.
