    Very enjoyable video. Presented calmly and concisely. Yes that's me telling you you're very good at it. (instant subscription)
    Years ago I tried experimenting by repositioning my centre channel from within to on top.
    Losing virtualisation doesn't sound much but if one's centre channel is partly enclosed certain effects will be lost. When watching a movie and the actors happen to be within an enclosed environment... let's say an underground bunker/cave or something similar. Even with eyes closed one will immediately be able to pick up on the echo effects of the environment! But if the centre channel is partly enclosed those same sound effects (and many others) fall by the wayside. The movie 'Kill command' is a perfect movie to test this theory. Try closing your eyes and when the protagonists enter the high-tech underground bunker one will almost immediately be able to pick up on the echo effects within ones own room.
    Like to make a suggestion..
    Knowing short-throws are not gonna help your predicament and considering your anthem is basically running as a processor, why not lose the fan and not just lower the shelf but actually angle it also. Ok, the centre channel might not look flash but you can place a blob of Blu-Tack between speaker and grill to have it presented flush again. Might not help with virtualisation but at least the dialogue will be directional.
    Being a music lover I prize audio over visuals, but if it was my setup I would hang the beautiful 77-inch OLED on the wall.
    A nice beautifully balanced setup all the same. Thanks for showing us.

      Thank you for checking out the video and appreciate the kind words.
      Appreciate you sharing your experience and for recommending a movie to be able to test on my system. I've heard of the movie, but haven't actually seen it so another reason to check it out.
      I double-checked and it is possible to move the shelf down to allow more space to angle the center so will have to try that out when I have some time to experiment.
      True, there is always the option to hang the television as another option.
      Hope you are enjoying your space and have a good one!

    I had 4 klipsch up-firings speakers. But I changed them for the SVS elevation speakers. A huge difference in sound and clarity. They come with their own brackets, so you can place them facing down from the ceiling. It'd be a good upgrade.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the up-firing speakers just don't seem to cut it. I've heard good things about the SVS elevation speakers and Arendal actually has very similar speakers like that too but my only concern (well my wife's probably) is that we have 8 foot ceilings so having speakers on the ceiling will probably stick out a lot. However, I'm in the works of testing out a solution that will have a video hopefully this month so will see how it goes. Thanks for checking out the video though and the multiple suggestions!

    • @menacordero1
      @menacordero1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I live in an apartment. Same height. The good thing about the SVS speakers is that their brackets come with a piece of rubber to absorb/ prevent the movement of the speaker, so you won't hear any rattling around your ceiling. They are relatively small. Place them on top of your MLP, and you'd be to hear those nice effects. Same speakers could be used as surround, back, or Dolby Atmos. Thanks for your videos 📹 as always.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the additional feedback on those speakers. I'll keep that in mind. Like the Arendal height speakers it looks like the SVS ones also come in white which would also help to conceal them a little. Appreciate you checking the videos out!

      I found certain height speakers within a small rooms tend to fire over ones head! I personally went with monitor Audio Radius 90s as effect channels. Not only are they're mini monitors with extra wide dispersion but more importantly the design of the minimalistic arm amounts which has extra distance between wall and back of speaker ports, helps in turn to reinforce the bass.
      If interested you'll be able to view them in this short 3-minute sound test video...

    Nice. I'd suggest putting those rears on the posts at the kitchen behind you. I just started this past year and I didn't have atmos, but I learned of Auro3D upmixer and I tried both and easily preferred the intelligent upmixer over most of the atmos mixes, that the sound engieneers rushed and hardly used 2 mins of content for the height speakers in an entire movie. Scenes in auro just open up to a full enviroment so much better, for me. There are some good atmos mixes that they put the time and money into and I test back and forth and only a handful of atmos are better for me.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking this and other videos out and for the suggestion. I've heard a lot of good things about Auro3D although is it true that it won't be available anymore? I thought I heard something like that but it seems like it is still being talked about. Unfortunately my Anthem doesn't support it and at this point I'll probably be with this receiver for a few years as it was an expensive purchase. I do have to agree with you though on the low availability of quality Atmos mixes but I did go ahead and move forward with an option that I will be doing a video on so will see if that changes anything.

    • @trauma50disaster1
      @trauma50disaster1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RandomDistractionsYT Auro3D has an upmixer that I really like, so all content from stereo to atmos native tracks can be used. There is native auro that never took off, that had to be programmed like atmos. So whenever someone references auro they are meaning the upmixer.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, appreciate you checking it out. Yeah, I do like the lighting setup. I started out with the Govee LED light setup but was never too happy about having the little camera on the TV and compared to the Pi it's not as responsive but it got me interested into looking further. There are some commercially available options but they were all pretty expensive and when I came across the Pi solution didn't seem as worth it. It's been a few years but if you look up "hyperion led raspberry pi" on TH-cam you should see some of the videos detailing the process. I followed one by Dr. Zzs but had to view some others as well. You use a Raspberry Pi, some cables, led lights, a hdmi splitter (I did get a 4k capable that also passed thru HDR so that I wouldn't lose that functionality), and I did have to use separate power supplies for the lights and Pi as I couldn't get the suggested method to work with just one. The software used though on the Pi is called Hyperion. It does take a little time to do but it is a fun project if you are into that.

    Just checking out this video. I am going to be adding a 5.1 Arendal system in my living room as well. Your review of the 1723S Center has me sold on getting either just that with the 1961 Towers or the 1723S towers to go with it. I'm curious about whether you have you had to do anything to acoustically treat your living room? Seems like that would be tricky to do in a living room space.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, because it's a shared space, the living room is kind of tricky as far as being able to modify it. I have not done any room treatment as that would be a no-go from my better half. While I don't know what it would sound like with treatment, I've been very happy with how it sounds without so far and the differences are audible when changes are made to the gear. Maybe one day I'll be able to get a dedicated space to see what room treatments are able to do. Congrats on your future gear!

      @@RandomDistractionsYTup firing I don’t know anything about up firing . All of my Dolby Atmos speakers or near the ceiling. I have one set of ceiling speakers that I don’t care for because in ceiling speakers can be placed in a way to where it doesn’t hit the listening position I’d rather have the height channels speakers, they can be aimed towards the listener position, and creates a more overhead affect than in ceiling speaker placement
      Your 5.1 surround sound speakers are nice but without the overhead effects you’re missing out dude you’re missing out big time. . try doing a little bit more research on how to get the best out of your Dolby Atmos overhead affects. I don’t know anything about up firing.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries the up firing are the ones that you put on top of your towers and/or surrounds and it’s suppose to shoot the sound at the ceiling to bounce down to the listening position. I had two of those on top of my old towers but they never really seemed to do much so decided to not worry about keeping them or finding something different. I am looking to do something up high though so will see how that goes.

    • @RandomDistractionsYT
      @RandomDistractionsYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking out the videos! As for your question; because I could. I bought the bookshelves but had received some requests from a few viewers if I could compare them against the monitors. I didn't have those but reached out to Arendal and in exchange for shooting a video about my Arendal Ambassador experience they offered to send me the monitors. Since I didn't really have the space to have the monitors and the bookshelf speakers I left the monitors. I'm planning on using the bookshelf speakers for my computer desk setup but saving up for some sort of integrated amplifier or something similar to drive them. The bookshelf speakers would be a better size fit for my desk.

      Thanks, appreciate you checking it out. In regards to the pad, it's a Pyle Sound Dampening Speaker Riser Foam. It was a cheaper option to decouple the sub from the floor. I was actually surprised on the difference it made. Things were shaking less in the house while the bass sounded better and was able to go louder. Thanks for checking it out. I don't know if you saw it but I did a test comparing the 1961 bookshelf, monitor and my 1723 S center to use as a center channel and the one thing that came out of that is that the bookshelf can really hold its own. Granted against the 1723 S you can tell the difference but with the monitor is much less noticeable, at least for me. When you add a sub it is even less noticeable. I would have no problem in suggesting the bookshelf and using the money saved for something else. If you want to see that comparison video, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/77TuoQWk_w0/w-d-xo.html

      I have Top Gun Maverick which per the box only has Dolby Vision and my TV does show that it's playing in HDR which should be Dolby Vision. I will say though when I'm using something like Netflix and playing a Dolby Vision title it actually does have the Dolby Vision logo at the end. I also have 1917 and it does show that it's playing in HDR but that disc shows that it has both Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ so not sure which one it's using. It seems like it is though. I asked because I've heard some folks having issues when not going through the TV directly. However, I looked that up and it shows that it is compatible with Dolby Vision but that it was going to be implemented in a future firmware update. They don't have a log for previous versions but looks like the latest is 2.87 from October 2021 so assuming that they have done it already since that only covered Sirius XM and Spotify connection stability. Does your receiver have the latest firmware? The only other suggestion would be to try a different cable for each connection point (from xbox to receiver (first) and then receiver to TV) just to make sure it's not a cable that is going bad unless you have recently replaced those. Mine were pretty old and was sometimes getting a handshake issue that was resolved by getting new cables. Or you could try connecting to the TV directly and see if it plays in HDR.
