There is really no call for such lousy service and equipment that doesn’t operate properly. No wonder those people left their car behind some days ago. Aside from that James, you made it this far so while it may not be much consolation, your almost there and your family and friends are with you to lend moral support. I and many others are praying for you. He always finds a way according to his will.
Good morning James and family. Sorry to hear about the road problems. On the bright side it is raining cats and dogs back here in Champaign. Safe travels...
Is there another brand f charging station that you can use? Based on this journey, I can't see how this would work out for a bus company that needs to meet schedules.
You've done your ever lovin' best to make this adventure work. I hope the company realizes that there have been sooooo many things that are out of your control. You have been a true professional on this trip!
My bus has a 20kw Generator. If you electric bus had a 25 gallon diesel tank you could start your generator and run it to charge your electric bus. You would have about 20 hours of running time. Then when the charging station did not work then you could still charge your bus enough to get you to the next charging station. If they wired it correctly then when you reach one of those low charging stations then you could start the generator to help the charger. I know this sounds silly but seriously it would give you an option to what you have experienced so far on this trip. Only having to refuel after 20 hours would mean it should not be that often, however this trip it would have meant refueling quite often. You could also run the generator while going down the road. You would be using more electricity than the generator can make but it would help some.
So frustrating…. Ughhh Charger overheating, you have a bus. Swamp cooler the charger by dumping the sanitary tanks on it to cool it down That way you can say “pizz on it” All kidding aside, sorry for missing beach day. James: I think we all feel your pain through this trip. But I have to say, I would love to see you attempt this trip again at some future date. Next time I would invite reporters from ABC, Vanhool and, Electrify America; this nation’s supposed leader in vehicle chargers. It seems that everyone’s done their part in making your trip possible. The only problem with this trip is that EA keeps dropping the ball. By failing at every turn, Electrify America is exposing itself as Not Ready to meet the growing demands electric vehicles will present in now or, in the future. They should have made provision for all manner of vehicles, buses included This is a problem EA cannot ignore. But, as a major resource, Electrify America should have been brought in on trip planning from the gate. And, I hope that they are paying close attention to your trip with plans to correct everything you exposed.
Electrify America isn't there to make money. The government made Volkswagen create Electrify America due to their diesel cheating. Once they lose enough money, VW can say "we tried" and dump it. The failure is that if ABC knew that EA was problematic, and the e-mail from ABC management indicated that EA already refused to support them, why did they send James and their bus on their network? ABC should have planned them a route on alternate networks, or just canned the idea. It's largely their failure.
I would like to see competition in the charging marketplace. I know Tesla has their own chargers and I believe the connectors are not universal. In time there will be more chargers on the roads and highways plus accessories to make use of all the different charging options.

This makes me think that just about anybody with the resources could lease a piece of land run electricity through it and put up chargers for electric vehicles. Where each vehicle, or each charger, shares in the load that goes to the group of chargers. I'm not a fan of regulations, but, there should be regulations that state if a charger has a label that says it will deliver x kilowatt hours per hour minimum, that it will always deliver x kilowatt hours minimum. Then, it'll be able to compete with a gas station more on a level surface where each pump can pump at its maximum flow rate and not harm any other pumps that are in the station. Just curious, are there any of those weights at and measures type stickers from the States that are on these pumps saying that they will deliver a certain charge rate all the time? "Rebooting Windows..." well THERE'S your problem! Not Windows per se, but a company using full-blown computers to control things that are baking in the southern sun. That's poor engineering design, plain and simple. Electrify America is a subsidiary fo Volkswagen AG, formed as part of Volkswagen's punishment in the US for their Diesel emissions scandal. Based on what I've seen, Volkswagen isn't actually using these to promote electric vehicles as the court ordered, but to do the opposite. In contrast, Tesla's charging stations exist to _promote_ their products. That's why they work so much better, because they're a good faith investment in their brand, while Electrify America is a bad faith response to bad faith before that. IMO the court should hand those stations over to an operator who is willing to be competitive. Yes, there is a need for charging stations made specifically for busses, trucks and other long haul vehicles for electric to be competitive in that industry. One thing to remember is that long haul trucking is a relatively new industry that simply didn't exist some 50 years ago. Before the roads existed to enable long haul, trains took the bulk of the freight and passengers across the country. Well, if that industry could make itself out of nothing, why should we believe the people who say that things can't be changed? If that was true, we'd still be using trains. The big problem we face in making progress is not "the government" but rather monopolism. It was monopolism that eradicated electric vehicles from cities back in the 1950s, after all. If we let them, monopolists will keep EV charging stations out of truck stops, and out in these inconvenient places. But that's not competition, it's oppression.
@@hakanbergvall9777 there is no "need" for vehicles period, if you want to get pedantic. But because recharging (just like refilling) is a "need" if you want to use either, then yes, it is a need.

If I where a Coach Company owner watching this vid, there's NO WAY IN HELL would I buy a E-Coach. With all the difficulties you've been having on this trip, it's not worth it.
If your running local routes and have a charger in your depot I don't see the problem, the problem comes with long distance, I wonder if ABC bus Sales and VanHool can set that up back for local work to see the differences?
I wish that the Liberals and the environmentalists could see these videos. Maybe they could get it through their thick skulls that the chargers aren't ready for massive usage.
Electrify America should send someone at the top to ride along so they can experience this silly issue. Electric vehicles are not the primary barrier to entry (other than price), it is the charging network. Ford, GM, Rivian Volvo, Mercedes and Nissan are switching to tesla charging network, and it is easy to see why.
Dear Electrify America: I’d like to remind you that, YOU SIMPLY CANNOT TELL AMERICANS THAT YOU ARE NOT SETUP TO CHARGE BUSES AND OTHER LARGE VEHICLES”. This ignores the fact that Electrify America knows that buses are at the forefront of the push to introduce electric vehicles to the American vehicle buying public, as buses have always been. A bus was used to introduce methanol, ethanol and other non-oil based fuel alternatives. And now you tell James “We can’t charge your bus because we aren’t setup to charge large vehicles? Granted, you were left out of the plan for this trip. But, that doesn’t shield you from overlooking the possibility that electric buses are being built right now, and will be on America streets tomorrow, but still, you cannot charge their batteries? Clean up your act, electrify America stop making excuses and put forth a genuine effort at clearing up all the issues, James and his party experience during this trip.

@@AdamSmith-gs2dv or the sensor being accurate. That is a lot of power and if it is DC the size of the conductor you wold need to charge at that rate for a long time would make the cable too heavy. Anyway, ambient temps are going to have a big impact on how long you can charge at what rate.
see that the vehicles are ready but, the infrastructure are way behind these days
As a retired bus driver I can appreciate that bus and remember you can always just relax in the bus,, make a big fat ham sandwich in air conditioned comfort, and have a nice refreshing nap and wake up to a fully charged bus, or whine like a whiner..and why is it parked all screwed up on the curb? Canback right up to the charger, this is indeed silly, but a very nice bus someone does not deserve nor appreciate.
Beautiful bus😊
*Beautiful it is. That said, it is more of a static display than a 'motor vehicle'.*
I actually suggested that my next delivery van, electric should be considered. Not anymore. My workplace has been great to me for decades but knowing them they probably would have crappy chargers like those. Yes keep on plugging.
This electric technology has years away to go. I can't find bus parking now in large cities and they are taking more parking away from buses so where are we charging all these buses.
Like somebody said tow a diesel powered generator behind the bus.
Should always have a diesel engine as a backup, like the Toyota preis but runs on gas.
Your blazing the trails for our industry… we’re going to be talking about your adventure in 5 yrs over beverages
Stop at home Depot get a generator
The journey is almost done, this proves America is not ready for full zize Ev public transportation, only city transit could benefit from full EV Busses, charters and long hual busses just need to stay how they are.
In Florida its never to late to go to the beach, its rather enjoyable at night listening to the waves crash against the shore.
Being as far South as I am I figured you wouldn't be passing thru my area but least ur back in Sunny hot Florida. On ur next trip maybe youll be closer to the West Palm Beach area.
After all these years we are still using Kw smdh! We need flux capacitors NOW!
@@hakanbergvall9777 oh, so you're a politician. No, I don't like dictatorships.
@StringerNews1 Bravo! Great comment, thank you. Electrify long haul rail, upgrade the derailing tracks, complete a 99.9% up-time local battery charging infrastructure, ONLY THEN declare war on gasoline and diesel motor vehicles!
@@donalddodson7365 the "hurry up and wait" strategy was fine 30 years ago, but after 30 years of no progress, we have a crisis. Better to "declare war" on inanimate objects than on ourselves, our children and grandchildren.
You may as well buy a portable fuel generator to charge the bus for all the good these charging stations are doing you!
James has the patience of Job.
Also, 22,000 pounds of batteries (11 tons) and the range is 250 miles? that's 88 pounds per mile. Goodness gracious. In comparison, a gallon of diesel is 7.1 pounds.
Holy crap.
That should stay in the City.
You may have answered this question. Why are you only using Energize America?
ABC suggested that that's the only charger I use for this bus
How many buses could you have topped off with diesel in this timeframe and sent them on their way down the road. This is absolutely ridiculous
Please just make it home safely, call the bus company, and have them take the buses back to California, my heart is breaking for you and your family 🤞🏻
Well Folks, it does not look like America is ready.......
Hello James, my company E- Universe Transportation Showroom is a startup that will be offering Ev vehicle exhibit space for various EV vehicles. Your charging experience of EV Motorcoach & Buses should be a awake up call for the industry as a whole for all electric manufactured product to focus on range , price & charging to be a top priority for a customer experience in order for public acceptance to adopt EV vehicles. Let's hope the charging company you have chosen to charge at , hears you loud & clear. Have a safe trip
It's early days for this marketplace. Go back 100 years when the automobile was the new tech--- how many gas stations were in the United States??? The Standard Oil Company had 12 stations in 1920 and by 1929 they had more than 1,500. It just takes time.
Hybrid is the way to go if it has to be. But I’m old school and I just want my fossil fueled engines😃 you need a windmill mounted to the roof of the bus hahaha
With a diesel, you would be there already
⛽ diesel and future technology hydrogen fuel cell ⛽ hydrogen liquid instant recharge of batterys so makes hyper fast charging obsolete. Sunderland uk leading away
I may be wrong in my assumption, but this trip looks bad for ABC Bus Sales if they're trying to promote E-Coaches as viable option to diesel? If I where a Coach Company owner watching this vid, there's NO WAY IN HELL would I buy a E-Coach. With all the difficulties you've been having on this trip, it's not worth it.
If your running local routes and have a charger in your depot I don't see the problem, the problem comes with long distance, I wonder if ABC bus Sales and VanHool can set that up back for local work to see the differences?
I agree. I think local work or sightseeing work would be ok for these EV’s. But not charter work going long distances.
If this was on the news nobody would be going to a dealer and buying an EV
It seems like Electrafy America needs dto try this journey. Drink the cool aide.
I'd drive that heap to the nearest airport and dump it
It's blast to drive 😮
This should be a warning to all that electric vehicles do not work.
This bus is 1.3 million usd.. Probably will not be used for passengers ever, its just doesnt make sense financially and it will waste alot of time charging. Very big waste.
How fast it goes 😊
cross country in an electric bus seems terrible. just take the train.
There won’t be enough drivers step in for drivers running out of on duty hours to charge the vehicles.
That’s a valid point
EV Double Decker Buses will never be used for long distance travel until they have electrified highways; They know that they have this POS on the road, and there's no designated CSR standing by for assistance.
They put those Evie motor coach buses out before their time. What's in another 5 to 10 years they were have those charging stations everywhere, they should be an every truck stop. Watching the video is frustrating me that you can't enjoy the comforts of the coach and the time.
Good time for a battery fire to end the madness.
Come on now we don’t want people to potentially get hurt here.
A battery fire is extremely dangerous to everyone around.
@@satiricalzero There are any number of videos out there of EV’s not just buses. By the time they catch fire, it seems that it’s just a matter of seconds before the vehicle is completely destroyed. All the fire department can do is hope the water will somehow stop it.
Electric Vehicles are still Experimental and the Concept may never become 100% Successful
I'll stick with a gas vehicle
Come to st Petersburg FL I want see you and bus
The EV infrastructure sucks.
Bullcrap
How have you been around this long and you still expect things to work correctly? That is not what we signed up for. Our lives are crap and if we do something wrong the blame always goes on us.
Pain in ass it drive me nuts 😡
Why not diesel electric hybrid
I’ll stick to my gas vehicles. This is sad.
