- After an unscheduled stop in Phonsavan to get the Toyota Landcruiser fixed we had an unfortunate run in with a guest house owner. This person is after nothing but to take money from unsuspecting American tourists.

With that behind us we head back down to Muang Khoun and up into the mountains to start our Laos adventure up into the isolated villages of the Hmong

What do think about the cop's over scamming you for money's?
Never been scammed by the cops for money. I have paid a lesser fine for not having all the correct documents though. If you've done nothing wrong and the cars documents are up to date.. they wave you through. They don't ask for money if you've done nothing wrong. Would you rather pay the larger official fine or the much smaller donation for an infringement..?

volunteer to do a trash clean up near the James River. We think it's important to teach people to take care of each other and the land. The lao people do that. Be well and Stay Safe 🙏

You are corrected, we Hmong Americans are often scammed for higher prices on many things. So when i visited Laos with family recently, we were glad to book online as much as we could. Without the online booking, we often were charged more at the in person reservations. Unfortunately, not all hotels and house guests are online.

I was born in Phou Meng (sp?) and have always wanted to visit at least once, but each time I decide to go for it, I hear another story which changes my mind. Perhaps someday I will make it there, or maybe not. Maybe I'll enjoy the country vicariously through you. Such a real difference when you go off the beaten path, people so unique and friendly. The drone visuals gave a breathtaking view of a peaceful place tucked away from the rest of the world. I was just there in 🇱🇦 in December. Was told that it was 150,000. I show up and they charge 300,000kip since I'm American. Never going to the same place again. It's open knowledge they charge hmong American more.
Ok. Exactly what I thought he was up to. Thanks for clarifying that for us, my negative thoughts weren't unjustified. We were able to book ahead next door at the "Vienna" for 100,000kip, no problem. Maybe check that out next time. Sorry to hear this happened to you 🙏

In the early 1950s my dad and his older brother, and a few uncles and their families moved from the southern side of the plain of jars to Don Dang so my Father and his older brother, can go to school in Muang Khoum. They finished secondary school there in the old capital and start their college in Vientiane and became the first few Hmong to finished college Dong Dok Teacher College in the early 1960s.

@@ayangdidi5524 Yes in those early years all the way to the 1960s was all French in secondary schools and college. English was an option only in beginning in the 1960s into the early 1970s at the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.

Well ol mate we stayed here at Jenida on the 11 oct to 13 th october and loved the location. Honestly Phonsavan is a shithole by the way and honestly people give this joint a wide berth as it has an un savouray tone especially after dark as we can vouch for. Craters is a great joint to have Tea and the coffee joint next door is about the best coffee you will get for 200 kms but the whole joint is a shithole. There is alot of drug use here which is annoying and honestly not a place we will be visiting next year.
Love your honesty mate.. we only venture here for the surrounding history or the Hmong New Year event, and certainly don't venture far from craters after dark. It certainly is a much different place than most other Lao cities. Just about to msg you 😉
@@NowinLao Mate its a great spot in an un savoury joint. Craters is a place we loved to have our Tea in. The restaraunt next door was a great people watching joint but the clientele was bloody horrible. There are so many awesome places in Laos but not Phonsavan.

todd diesel get a bug in it and it looks like yellow snot that blocks up you filters, either you filled up with some bad fuel or the fuel in your tank has been there for a long time get a few of them filters in i wound get at least 6

If you are a Hmong American then just tell them that you are a local or a visitor from the capital Vientiane and see if that will help, LOL
Wow that is very bad customer service. Hmong myself but I swore them Lao Hmong people don’t know any concept of business but try to milk as much as they can whoever they can, especially from the Hmong American. Sorry you and Neenee has to go through that. Good that you took your business elsewhere, they don’t not deserve your business. Those hotel sure milk the Hmong American good.
I really enjoy watching your adventures into the villages. can I ask why they all run and hide? is it because you're a foreigner and are just scared or is there something else that happens in Laos for them to be like that
Honestly.. I'm really not sure. I have heard stories of Hmong people scaring children with stories of how the white men will steal them.. but that's just to scare the kids I think cause they very rarely see us here. These kids ran before they could even see who was in the car. I think they hide from any strangers. Weeks or even months will go by up here without any stranger coming through the village. Such a quiet and peaceful place.. I really wish we could've stayed there longer.

That just bad business practice, I hope you guy shop around and find a better deal. Not sure if the owner is looking out for the hmong people by providing them room during the time it really hard to find a room in Hmong new year or ripping them off, it will not help him in the long term. I hope he is just trying to help the Hmong America. If so during next year he should reserve some room ahead of time with price increase, so this way it does not look like he is trying to rip people off.
He wasn't looking after them, he was cashing in. He more than doubled the price to 300,000 kip for another American tourist.
We walked to the hotel next door and booked ahead of time there no worries. We will stay there from now on and advertise that place instead 👌😉

About your bad experience. I think since you're European and your wife is Lao, whoever you tried to do business with denied you because they can't cheat or bribe you like they do to the Hmong Americans.
Something like that. They know who we are and we've stayed there many times. They know we know how much to expect to pay.. and like you said, would not be able to get the "premium" price out of us.
Ventura hwy "America", cruisen music,😂, todd just check front wheel bearings by physicaly wobbling by hand to feel if there's any play, easy to adjust, corrugated roads give em a hammeren over time. Outer bearings, grease and adjust, just a daily check. If you don't big money to fix. Safe travels beautiful people.👍👌🙏🦘.
