Great suggestion! I will look at putting something together. Yes...you can set your phone up to alert you to offers. If you have notifications for eBay turned on on your phone, you'll get offers.
@@TheChaChingKing I receive notifications for offers from potential buyers, but I also check my phone several times each day to catch whenever ebay suggests "send offers". Is there any way to receive notifications for those?
2 questions. 1) You used to be able to pick "multiple locations" in the item location field. First you would leave off the zip code and just put "multiple locations" in the city/state field and click save. NOW I can no longer do that, but other sellers have told me that they can still choose multiple locations for their listings. Every time I put up a new listing this happens. However, my older listings if ended, I can sell similar or hit relist and if they previously had multiple locations, it retains the multiple locations field and I'm fine. But again, new listings I've force to put the zip code and city state. 2) Recently I noticed that I sold an item and the customer paid shipping. My shipping policy has always been set to free shipping and so that was strange. Then I notice that many of my items were set to charge shipping. When I checked all of these items were those that I was forced to add the zip code and city state. IE those that would not allow me to add multiple locations. Odd. Has something changed at Ebay? Shouldn't I be able to still list using "multiple locations" since others can do that? Thanks in advance for you answer :-)
The laws changed recently that made sellers disclosing their business locations more stringent. That may be why you're seeing the change. Perhaps the older listings were grandfathered in. I'm not sure. I never used multiple locations so that wasn't an issue for me. I did opt to use a PO box instead of my home address. If you are seeing others do it, there may be some work around. It's not something I'm ever needed or pursued.
Great info, thanks. In preparation for 1st October when sellers will be billed 3% for orders sent internationally, how can we increase the shipping cost to cover our costs when using Ebay International shipping program?
You still control the cost of domestic shipping. There is no way to add anything on for international shipping. You'd have to bake the cost into your item or shipping up front.
Hi Scot, I have a question. I have several cookie jars that I am selling on my site. I have it set to calculated shipping. In my ebay listing I see shipping as 16.99 for these as they require a 17x11x13 size box with alot of packing however, I had someone from California saying it was showing $40.00 for shipping. What is the best way to set shipping for these items? they do not weigh more than 6 lbs total some less.
Calculated shipping is almost always going to pad the charges. You might be better off to figure your max size box and weight, then figure the furthest distance you might ship the item. See what that costs to ship and put in a flat rate to match that.
If I change my shipping cut off time to 8pm cst, and have 1 business day shipping offered, that would mean any sale that comes in at say 8:15 pm cst on a Saturday, I would have till Tuesday to get my ship label printed and scanned by the post office, correct? I do not live near a USPS to get there in time before they close at 6pm so I have to do porch pickup which i have had issues
This is a great question. Like you, I don't have many options when it comes to other drop off locations and calling for mail pick-up is a useless endeavor. Set your cutoff time like you've said, and it "should" work. However, I've noticed that when the date clicks over it counts it as the next day. So, think of the shipping times as DAYS and not HOURS. Our post office in Penelope closes at 11 am M-F and 9 am on Saturdays...no joke. So, I eventually changed my shipping time to 2 days. I almost always ship within one day, but I use 2 to give me some buffer. I noticed no drop off in sales when I made that switch.
I don't think you can do this through the app. You would have to open a browser on your phone and see if you can log into eBay without it opening the app.
This is very helpful. Very easy to understand. What if you dont want to get your shipping label through Ebay? I would like to do this on a large item.I can ship it cheaper on my own. I cant figure how to get the buyers address. Very frustrating.
When you go to ship, just open it as if you were going to buy the label through eBay. Copy and paste that address into Pirate Ship or whatever platform you're going to use. Just make sure that you then go back and add the tracking number into eBay.
Until it shows up on the platform, I can't show people exactly where to click. I've previously converted opting out of the changes. But I'll show all of it again when the platform pushes out the changes.
Very helpful! I'm just at a loss for what I should do with allowing people to combine listings of mine. I want to be able to offer reduced shipping, but the items I sell are so random and weights and sizes are all over the place. Maybe I should just not offer combined shipping at the start and just refund people a little after they purchase multiple listings? Is Ebay kosher with me making a custom listing for someone if they contact me that they want to combine items?
I ship from the UK and wondered if there a way to add a shipping rule to each continent for example Europe & NA as I have separated these locations within the same policy? It gives me the option to add a postage rule, but this would apply to all continents which will overcharge some like Europe. Any help will be majorly appreciated!
Oh boy, I may not be much help. It's not something I can even experiment with from over here. That may be a question for eBay on Facebook. They should at least be able to point you in the right direction.
I think you've accidentally found the issue yourself. :-) I did some checking on an account I have with NO listings ever, and you can't set (or see) the shipping preferences. Until you've started selling, some of those things aren't there. I bet if you start listing, you'll see the other option begin to appear.
Hello! im a newbie , tried to do this but when i go to my account settings , doesnt give me the option for shippin preferences , is this because i havent list any item? thanks in advance!
so i am trying to set my shipping cut off time to 8pm cst . i have my listings on one business day. i set my shipping policies to one business day but the cut off section does not give me one business day cut off times...am i doig something wrong
I think I answered on the other question. But, it behaves more like DAYS shipping than it does HOURS. So, the late day cut off time doesn't mean it won't be the next day if you have one hour shipping.
Interesting question. I don't know that I've ever specifically thought about that. On the surface level, no. I don't think it matters if you are only shipping through eBay’s International Shipping Program. They handle all of that. If you so internationally on your own, maybe. I don't think you are supposed to sell Nike in the UK if they are listed as new. But I don't have a bunch of examples that pop up in my head.
What a great question! You can presale items on eBay as long as they will ship within 40 days. You have to make sure you put PRESALE predominantly in the listing...and make sure it's in the title. Then, you put the estimated shipping time in your description and make sure your handling time allows enough days to meet that deadline. Here's some information about it from eBay. www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-policy?id=4252
hi i have a question i’ve been trying to figure out how do i get my “reasonable shipping cost from a 4.9 to a 5.0 i offer free shipping on a ton of my items but obviously i can’t have free shipping for every thing would i have to offer free shipping across the board to get that 5.0
Yes, you would probably have to offer free shipping on everything. I'm just not willing to do that. It interferes with the ease of sending/accepting offers and running sales. So, I charge some for shipping. And I don't have a perfect rating on shipping costs, either. The only difference between you and I is that I'm not worried about that number at that level. If it dropped alarmingly low, I'd adjust. At 4.8 or 4.9 when I'm charging shipping...so be it. :-)
@@TheChaChingKingyeah thanks for the info in not worried about it being a 4.9 i was genuinely just curious how that would be changed i appreciate it and yeah i have the same feeling of how most people just can’t it doesn’t make too much sense to have 100 % free shipping as it would eat up margins
I keep getting asked by ebay to adjust so many hundred of my listings to allow for one day shipping saying it could improve sales...is there a way i can do that in bulk cos 300 listings one at a time is daunting ... also mass end and resist similar is that possible and if so how?..I heard relistjng older stock can jump the algorithm.
You can bulk edit your listings. I have a video coming out soon that shows you exactly what to do. As for me, I never found that ending and relisting items helped much unless I improved the listing in some way.
How you doing sir, i just got my first sale today and bought the shipping label and i thought because i did the consumers act my address will be hide on the shipping label but no. What can i do about it?
Do you have an alternative return address entered? I want a clear about that as I intended to be. The waiver makes it possible to not use your home address. But you still have to have a return address. Congrats on your first sale!!!
Ebay is so frustrating to me. I sell mostly cactus. I last sold in November, and again a couple weeks ago. I didn't notice eBay had erased my old shipping preferences and my cactus sold to some island I've never heard of. Then I had to check some box saying the item was legal to ship. Forcing me to look up shipping plants to a place that claims no seeds or plants should be shipped to. Had to cancel the sale in fear of trouble. Next sale I noticed the shipping discount went to the buyer, this losing out on the couple extra dollars I would have normally made, which used to be nice, considering how the fees eat into the profits. I'm also noticing a decline in sales ever since they added the extra fee (which I usually decline) to boost listing. With more platforms to sell on, I'm wondering if eBay is still the best option. Just ranting. Thanks for the video, I had tried to figure of the different boxes to check and just gave up.
I think plants as a whole are one of the more difficult things to sell simply because the laws vary from place to place. I completely understand that the fees and shipping eat into your profits. I promote at 2% ONLY if my item has competition. Two things to keep in mind. Even with their current fee structure, eBay is still one of the least expensive platforms to sell on. Two, every other seller is also facing higher shipping costs. So, while it stinks, you're still able to compete. All of that said, rant away. I completely understand how frustrating it can be.
Hi, if I am away on vacation for 1 week and a sale comes through, how do I manage this? I will be unable to ship it within the 3 business days that I set up. Thank you. Lia
darn it..i dont see any Enroll button on the shipping preferences page. I did some researching on youtube and it says if your shipping preferences do not show any enroll button into global or international shipping program...then that mean i can not be involved in it. I wonder if its cause I stopped selling on ebay for about 4 years...had to do other things..now i am back and I have no status...meaning no sales transactions for 3 to 4 years so I imagine ebay is wanting me to get some sales first. I made one sale this week but i have a lot more to go.
Ahh...the Shipping Service is eBay's International Shipping (EIS). It won't be there until you qualify for it. As soon as eBay decides you qualify, you'll be automatically opted in.
How do i opt of using this system and go back to the old ways? i have so many shipping options that ALL of my listings are messed up.. I charge a flat rate shipping..
You could create a MINIMAL number of policies and delete all of the others. The process might take some time, but once it was done things would be much more streamlined.
Say, you have a lot of small auction items of the same category, that you know don't weigh that much. If a customer happens to win multiple of those items and the sum of those items would not change shipping cost, how do you save the customer money upfront by changing the calculated shipping rules?
Since you only accept immediate payments(which is great) then how do you DO combinded shipping?? Or do you not combine at all? I would rather not want to because it would be more complications...but maybe I miss out on a lot of sales?? ...or do the buyers leave negative feedback when you didn't combine it??? Ughhh im so intimidated now
@TheChaChingKing ok., but, do you HAVE to do combined? I mean, can I just send each item shipped separately,... im just thinking it would be a complicated issue if they try to return one of the items, perhaps, if it were several combined?? Not sure how that works, like they get refunded the FULL shipping amount, if they return just a single small item of many combined...
You don't have to. BUT, if the items could have easily been combined, it may cause your buyer some regret because shipping was more than it could have been.
I am not sure I understand the question. I apologize. If you are asking about an individual item, you have to choose how it will be delivered when you create the listing. If you don't seem to have those options when you are listing, you have to create some shipping policies. If the item has already sold, I don't think you can change those settings.
@@msgolding All you would have to do is go into the listing and make sure that you do not have pick-up as an option. If the item has already sold, I really don't think it'll let you change any of that.
@@TheChaChingKing thanks so much for the reply. I didn’t have it setup as an option I guess cause my buyer didn’t have the option for combo shipping I went and clicked the box and made mine 3 days as well hopefully it fixes it love the videos
For most international shipping through eBay, you can't combine shipping. eBay has been talking about rolling out combined shipping, but I don't know where that stands. You might try reaching out to eBay on Facebook and see if your listings are candidates for combining.
I'm confused on how I will pay for the shipping if I'm starting with nothing. No cash or anything. If I sell an item. Will I have to pay for shipping with the money that I get from selling that item?🤔
Once eBay knows that you will follow through and complete sales, you will pay for shipping out of the proceeds from the sale. When you first begin, eBay might require you to pay for shipping...but that is not usually the case. It usually comes out of what the buyer paid for the item.
If I had set up first class mail letter max 3oz and then when I’ve sold something…it won’t give me that option..it only offers ground advantage which is significantly more and I end up losing money when I offer free shipping Any help is appreciated with this frustrating situation
First Class Mail doesn't have tracking on it, which is required on eBay. So, First Class Mail isn't an option. You might see if your items qualify for eBay's Standard Envelope. If so, it's much cheaper than Ground Advantage.
@@TheChaChingKing I corresponded with a few napkin sellers on eBay and asked how they do it and was told…they mark them shipped, take them to the post office or stamps from home and then send a photo to the buyer. True they won’t have tracking, but apparently eBay hasn’t had an issue because these folks have been selling for many years! The only problem of course is that on rare occasion someone may not receive their order
Question for anybody I just got a very large fragile item. It’s a Halloween devil 😈 candy holder and the top part of the bowl is the head and it has a trident and then it has a tail. Oh my gosh, if I am trying to ship this thing to much with bubble and padding, etc., but now I’m thinking oh now I have to put it in the giant box and weigh it on the scale make sure that I charge enough for shipping. I just wanted to know if anybody has had some issues with price changes in the last year through USPS on eBay.?
Absolutely, I have seen the changes. Once you pass up a cubic foot (approximately), you start paying a "dimensional weight." Meaning that you are charged at a much higher weight based on the size of the box. It wasn't an eBay thing, it was a post office thing.
@@TheChaChingKingYes high shipping and eBay fees along with the sales tax that Biden/Harris unleashed on us sellers. It’s hard to make a profit on eBay these days.
I completely understand. Shipping is intimidating. Trust me, you aren't the only one who feels that way. But, one of the things I say all the time is that people who have experience shipping, aren't afraid of it. It gets SO much better with a little bit of experience. If you take a really simple shipping method, like Poshmark, you give up the ability to have choices in the shipping. The can only use USPS Priority. No Ground Advantage, no overnight, no international...NO choices. With the choices that eBay offers, it definitely makes the learning curve a little sharper. But you can do this. You really can.
I followed your video from a while back on how to hide your full home address on your ebay labels. It worked but then after I upgraded to the 2nd tier store 2 months ago, the labels show my full home address again despite the option to hide it being clicked?? please help!
Wait, HELP! (w/your link) The OPT OUT choices are confusing!! Which to pick if wanting to OPT OUT? , because last option states that; (no labels to use anymore?) we wont get any shipping discount anymore(for ourselves??), AND 1st option says;we will "enjoy using labels and getting a discount (for ourselves?!)".. Are they trying to gaslight us with these descriptions in how its worded??? Here is what I saw: eBay discounted rates 1) "Offer buyers our negotiated carrier rates on all listings with calculated shipping. Purchase eBay Labels once you receive an order to enjoy these rates. Learn more" *OR* 2)"Standard rates without discount Offer buyers standard carrier rates without any discount" - so, im guessing option 2 there to opt out?... but will lose my discounts with printing labels possibly? Makes no sense to me
On the link, I just entered my information and then, on the drop down menu, I selected the last one that says DON'T CHANGE MY SETTINGS. www.ebay.com/srv/survey/a/shipping.discount.optout?mkpid=2&emsid=e99011.m2.l1&bu=45152671227&osub=0f76b7dfe73ef971530fc8932d488690%257EALL_T&segname=1709638592323MC_ALL_T&crd=20240412000000&ch=osgood
??..So what is the new thing that ebay is auto opting in sellers this month, about shipping, that all the sellers are panicking about?? Apparently a deadline this month to opt out, if you can find where?? Sellers are all saying they will get hosed on shipping now if opted in permanently...?? What is that and how do we stop it!? Sounds horrible
If you don't do calculated shipping, it's a non-issue. Basically, you get a discount for shipping. With calculated shipping, your discount automatically gets passed on to the buyer. Ebay is pushing sellers to reduce or eliminate shipping costs. That said, here's the link. :-) www.ebay.com/srv/survey/a/shipping.discount.optout
Why don’t I see the Shipping option that you show? All I have is Personal info and privacy, Selling, Payment Info, Account Preferences…I’m trying to set up my first listing. I want to be able to sell in my own Country which is Canada, plus USA
Yours may look at little different simply because you're in Canada. You won't have the same shipping options. Most of mine are through the United States Postal Service.
@ Ok thank you, I think I have to select it each time I’m listing something. I’ll be using a third party shipping company for cheaper rates and therefor will put a flat rate each time. Thanks again. I managed to post 3 items, I was very thorough with the titles, pictures and information. But so far I’m not getting really any views. Very disheartening 😒😣
One totally irritating thing is that eBay doesn't tell you that to be a top seller, you need 1 day shipping...and when you listen to big sellers, 1 day sounds hard. It is fairly easy, I have only had 1 day of 10 items, most days it is 1-3. EBay also doesn't tell you that to be a top seller, you need 30 day returns...another easy thing to do....until you have 14 day returns on 500 items...just chose 30 day returns at the start!
Ebay international shipping sucks. Buyers outside of the USA avoid listings with it due to the crazy shipping prices. Do yourselves a favour and opt out, you'll get more sales.
That's the beauty of this, you can set your business up in a way that suits you best. I love eBay's International Shipping. Not only is it easy, but the sales are covered 100% by eBay. No chance of a return or negative feedback.
The beauty in running our own businesses is that we can pick and choose the pieces that fit best for us. I absolutely love eBay's International Shipping. But if someone else doesn't, that's fine, too. 100%

so i am trying to set my shipping cut off time to 8pm cst . i have my listings on one business day. i set my shipping policies to one business day but the cut off section does not give me one business day cut off times...am i doig something wrong
I think I answered on the other question. But, it behaves more like DAYS shipping than it does HOURS. So, the late day cut off time doesn't mean it won't be the next day if you have one hour shipping.
When selling clothes, are there any countries I should exclude to avoid VeRO violations?
Interesting question. I don't know that I've ever specifically thought about that. On the surface level, no. I don't think it matters if you are only shipping through eBay’s International Shipping Program. They handle all of that. If you so internationally on your own, maybe. I don't think you are supposed to sell Nike in the UK if they are listed as new. But I don't have a bunch of examples that pop up in my head.
Do you use your home address or have a PO Box you use when shipping out products?
I use a PO Box. We don't actually have mail service at our house.
@@TheChaChingKing thank you.
How do you change the shipping date for preorders that won’t be available to ship for a couple of weeks?
What a great question!
You can presale items on eBay as long as they will ship within 40 days. You have to make sure you put PRESALE predominantly in the listing...and make sure it's in the title. Then, you put the estimated shipping time in your description and make sure your handling time allows enough days to meet that deadline. Here's some information about it from eBay.
www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-policy?id=4252
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for the reply and link. I actually figured it out right after I made the comment. So I’m good.😎
I'm surprised you didn't mention that eBay now requires us to give buyers are shipping discount. I read it on their site.
I will show the opt out feature in an upcoming video. It would have fit here, though.
hi i have a question i’ve been trying to figure out how do i get my “reasonable shipping cost from a 4.9 to a 5.0 i offer free shipping on a ton of my items but obviously i can’t have free shipping for every thing would i have to offer free shipping across the board to get that 5.0
Yes, you would probably have to offer free shipping on everything.
@@TheChaChingKing my home address and my return address are the same. This is why?
I completely understand how frustrating it can be.
also are the cut off times you show in am or pm
My cut off times are AM. But you can set them to suit you and your post office.
@@TheChaChingKing how do you change from am to pm on the cut off page?
Hi, if I am away on vacation for 1 week and a sale comes through, how do I manage this? I will be unable to ship it within the 3 business days that I set up. Thank you. Lia
I would send the buyer a note and let them know when you'll ship. Let them know if that doesn't work, you can cancel it for them.
@@TheChaChingKing thank you!
darn it..i dont see any Enroll button on the shipping preferences page.
That's probably all it is. Once you get things rolling again, it will probably enroll you automatically
On my account I do not have that whole top portion. I cannot see the shipping services status.
@@TheChaChingKing how do I delete them
Say, you have a lot of small auction items of the same category, that you know don't weigh that much. If a customer happens to win multiple of those items and the sum of those items would not change shipping cost, how do you save the customer money upfront by changing the calculated shipping rules?
I don't do calculated shipping. But, as long as I could combine them, I could always just refund the difference to save us both some money.
Since you only accept immediate payments(which is great) then how do you DO combinded shipping?? Or do you not combine at all? I would rather not want to because it would be more complications...but maybe I miss out on a lot of sales?? ...or do the buyers leave negative feedback when you didn't combine it??? Ughhh im so intimidated now
I will combine. I usually just refund the difference. But if a customer asks first, I can take immediate payment off.
How can we change delivery preferences from Pick-up to Mail/Delivery as the seller?
mail/online delivery*** for clarification. my apologies!
Do buyers not even have an option for combo shipping if you don’t adjust the info at the end and click the box???
They do, but I'd have to refund some shipping. I usually end up doing that if I get a combo order. It's just so rare that it isn't an issue for me.
@@TheChaChingKing thanks so much for the reply. I didn’t have it setup as an option I guess cause my buyer didn’t have the option for combo shipping I went and clicked the box and made mine 3 days as well hopefully it fixes it love the videos
When I go to send an invoice to my buyer it says cannot be sent for international buyers. How do I combine shipping ?
If I had set up first class mail letter max 3oz and then when I’ve sold something…it won’t give me that option..it only offers ground advantage which is significantly more and I end up losing money when I offer free shipping
Any help is appreciated with this frustrating situation
First Class Mail doesn't have tracking on it, which is required on eBay. So, First Class Mail isn't an option. You might see if your items qualify for eBay's Standard Envelope. If so, it's much cheaper than Ground Advantage.
@@TheChaChingKing
I corresponded with a few napkin sellers on eBay and asked how they do it and was told…they mark them shipped, take them to the post office or stamps from home and then send a photo to the buyer.
The main reason I have not tried selling on ebay is for the shipping. I am trying to figure out why they make it so difficult.
Hmmm...do you have an alternative return address? You still need some address in there. I use a PO Box.
@@TheChaChingKing I don't. maybe I'll try unselecting then reselecting
Why do some sellers charge what looks like three times the shippings. Like 35.00 shipping on a ten dollar tshirt
I guess they are trying to hide the cost in the shipping. Outside of that, I can't imagine what they are trying to do. It's a valid question.
Wait, HELP! (w/your link)
The OPT OUT choices are confusing!! Which to pick if wanting to OPT OUT? , because last option states that; (no labels to use anymore?) we wont get any shipping discount anymore(for ourselves??),
AND 1st option says;we will "enjoy using labels and getting a discount (for ourselves?!)"..
Are they trying to gaslight us with these descriptions in how its worded???
Here is what I saw:
eBay discounted rates
1) "Offer buyers our negotiated carrier rates on all listings with calculated shipping. Purchase eBay Labels once you receive an order to enjoy these rates. Learn more"
*OR*
2)"Standard rates without discount
Offer buyers standard carrier rates without any discount"
- so, im guessing option 2 there to opt out?... but will lose my discounts with printing labels possibly? Makes no sense to me
On the link, I just entered my information and then, on the drop down menu, I selected the last one that says DON'T CHANGE MY SETTINGS.

@@TheChaChingKing are you opted in or out??
I opted out.
This was great but you forgot to address handling costs.
I haven't ever charged separate handling fees.
@@TheChaChingKing I understand, but as an instructional video it may have been nice to hear what you had to say on the subject.
I completely agree. I think with SO many choices is gives the sellers some flexibility, but the price for that is that it can be overly complicated.
IMO, way too complex. eBay made international shipping easier then just added a bunch of options and details that took away all simplicity.
The beauty in running our own businesses is that we can pick and choose the pieces that fit best for us. I absolutely love eBay's International Shipping. But if someone else doesn't, that's fine, too. 100%
