Definitely agree a shootout with a 5150 is absolutely necessary now. With all the modelers and plugins and pedals that emulate a 5150 a guy just wants them all so to save money i just went with a real 5150 in the end

Fantastic demo. I love UA as well, and despite being a professional in the field of tube amplification I’m thinking I need one of these.
Funny enough, I thought the mic’ed cabinet in this video sounded way better than in the knuckles (dual rectifier) video. I think the low end can turn out weird with some of these high gain pedals when it comes to real amplification + micing. Thanks for the video man 🙏🏻

This is easily the best 5150 amp in a box pedal I’ve heard so far. Blows the tc electronics one out of the waterrrrr
Great demo! One thing I've noticed not many people talked about so far (that I find really nice and a deal breaker for me personally), is the ability to do 4 cables method. Except from the Victory preamp pedals line, I don't see many preamp pedals that offer that but I think it's a great advantage. You like your Marshall DSL100 (for example), but would like the hability to also switch to a 5150? This pedal can do it and it’s awesome. I really like that this pedal can also be used as extra channels to your base amplifier. I've always tought that more preamps pedals should have this feature.
This is perfect for pedal board people like me. I want a 5150 on a pedal board. I have the Seymour Duncan power stage 700 and a pod go. This will be my amp on a pedal board. Travel light go direct in. Perfect pedal.
That thing is impressive! Sounded killer even through YT and AirPods. Wow!
Kudos to you for calling out the importance of good user experience. I thought the cab sim recordings were overly bright. I'm listening through computer speakers, but I'm referring to the difference between the cab sim recordings and the warmth of the mic'ed cab. This was a great demo to watch.
Damn that pedal sounds good!! I'm a home player so that is a much better option than buying an actual head to get those tones. Definitely going on my wishlist.
I have the Dream 65, which is a good pedal platform. The other channels have failed to prove this pedals value. If anyone can, brother, it's you!
I don't think I really did it justice. I had to cut out a huge portion of the video because I was using a prototype pedal I'm not ready to release yet 🤦♂️ Bigggg error on my part.
I legitimately think about this pedal while I'm doing other things though. Like when I'm doing the dishes or editing videos, etc. Something about the analogness of the pedal, but then also that you can get in there and control stuff with the app really speaks to me.

Sick! I have about $400 to blow on guitar stuff. I was originally thinking of buying an old used Axe Fx standard, but then I realized, why would I need all of those options if I would only ever model the same thing. I might as well just get that one model. This fits the bill!

I know it's not your question directly, but I have ampworx 550 and it slaps. My favourite 5150 sim out there compared with tons of other modelers!
Nice work, TD... Man, i know the PowerStage is solid state but (at least) with that pedal, it sounds amazing on this end... Im tube biased, but i am a huge fan of the Revv G4 pedal but i have to run it into a tube power section (mostly an Engl FB100) to really feel its greatness... But then its like, why not just use the Engl's preamp? That Anti pedal sounds incredible though...
@@27retrodaze yeah so the reason I have tube and solid state power amps for demoing gear is because (like this pedal) some gear emulates the power section as well. This one does it and even has modifiers for it. So it makes a lot more sense using it with a clean SS poweramp. But then there are preamp pedals which only emulate the preamp circuit (most analog pedals for example), in that case they sound so much better and more dynamic with a tube power amp.

imho the 5150ii head is the one if you want a 100watt head but the spring reverb on the og 5150 60w combo is probably the crème de la crème imho 😊
this is the third demo I've heard of this pedal and it sounds pretty fricken good I must say.
I think it's awesome, but I'm super biased. 5150's and Universal Audio are both things I really like lol.
Soon. Hopefully, you’ll get REAL demos from a channel I’m starting. I mean obviously these are real demos, the issue is, they’re by bad ass players. So I go buy all of it because it sounds so kick ass. I think my pedal case must weigh like 200lbs lol. Oh and I always thought my units were defective because they didn’t come with a power supply so I never knew I needed one.
Oh, so yeah that’s what sums it up. I have thousands and thousands in gear, and I can ALMOST play 4 chords. So it’ll be fun. Basically demos of badass gear, but by someone who breaks a string every time he tunes his guitar. I’ll have a discount link too where when you click on it, you won’t get anything really. Maybe a blank page, who knows. All sorts of fun!

They should've made it with an output for a power amp to a cab and one for the cab sim.

@@AnthonySkunkGreen you could do that. I think the pitfall with using multiple of these pedals is you start to get into more amp modeler price territory, and then it’s like “why not get a unit that does everything?”

The other UA preamp pedals would give you an extra 3 cabinets after you've run the app and signed into some account (accessed by continuing to scroll through the cabinets, the cab light would switch to green). Any extra cabs on this model?
I had a UA dream and got rid of it due to the need to use a mobile app to switch certain things and having access only to a 'live' pedal mode and one preset, which isn't really enough without needing to dial in variations between songs -- needing the app again. But the sounds are undeniable.
Edit: Answered my own question:

man, that comment about circling back to certain tones. For me it's gotta be the Rectifier with a parametric EQ in the chain to dial the kind of midrange I like. Your can hear the SLO bloodline in it if you set it a certain way, and outside of my Helix, the Rec was the easiest amp to I've ever tracked with....it just has all the right ingredients.
I think the TC pre is what one of the guitarists from meshuggah used.

Sounds great. I am just hesitant to buy based on things I have read on certain forums. Could be false info but I recall reading that if your pedal needs repairs the support is a nightmare and you can just consider your pedal bricked

This thing sounds amazing. I just hate the idea of having to deal with my phone while I’m playing guitar. I’m always trying to get rid of my phone. lol. I wish EVH would make a two channel pedal like the Friedman be od deluxe. But also a pedal like the IR-x.

Is this somewhat like the AMPED series from blackstar? Only blackstar is powered. 1 watt, 20 watts and 100. You can use pedals and choose tube sound and voicings of USA, and two others

Hey Taylor thanks for doing this with the Mesa cab! I was convinced this thing was garbage from henning pauly’s video. Don’t get me wrong, he does fantastic content and I’m a huge fan. I just thought this product was a total miss. But putting this through your cab here shines a whole different light on this pedal. Yeah it does sound pretty damn good. Like way better than I was thinking. Still wish it had midi tho…. FIREFLY???

It is. That's why I own multiple variations of it! I really like this as a pedal version though. I'm a sucker for this though, and super biased towards UA and 5150's so take that with a grain of salt.

As a Pre amp it sounds outstanding. But the IRs aren't that great IMO. It also costs the price of an used 5150

If I have a flip phone that doesn’t have wireless or can use apps, can I still use it? I think I can use the 40 free hours CD on my PC though 😂 I’m so tired of having to use my phone and all this stuff to change settings. I go to play my amp and next thing I know I’m answering emails for two hours 😢

Dude I'm kicking myself for not doing it. I'm in between my new office and my home studio for shooting content rn, and the block letter is at the office. But I like this thing so much, I will probably do that in the future!

@flame48622 , sounds like two things are going on here:
1) You have personal biases and those are turning you into an ID10T regarding this topic.
2) Because of those biases, you think your creativity and "originality" is better with a physical amp. You think that, without feeling the rumble of an overly loud physical amp in the room, you can't be creative or original. You think "imperfections" are inherently more creative and more original. Never mind that you can have that very easily with a pedal like this, a preamp, and a cab.
Yeh but, how do you run a delay pedal with it...there's no effects loop.
I imagine you could run a delay after it in your chain or before if you prefer front in delays?
Hey Taylor. I wanted to ask something. So here in India, a Valeton GP200 JR costs around 382 dollars, and a Nux MG30 costs around 250 dollars. What do you personally think I should get, also taking in consideration the price difference here?

Thanks for asking. TBH it's been a long time since I used either of them. I'm pretty sure I remember getting along with the GP200 a little more, but I did like the graphics on the MG30. I really think you'd be happy with either, so he price difference might be the biggest factor. My best advice is to look through the spec sheets and see which one has all the options you require!

Oh no, The built in cabs don’t sound like that. I think something is wrong with your chain my guy. Way too harsh. I’ve heard this in person and the built in cabs sound glorious. I’m definitely picking one up. Sounds great through your cab though 🤘🏾
ANTI 1992 or IR-X?
For me, the Anti.. But they are such different things. The IR-X is a high voltage tube preamp pedal, this is all digital.

Man, this is not looking good for my wallet, I was already looking into that one peavey 6505 1992.
Keep telling myself I dont need this. (just bought a 5150 EL34 Iconic) Also use a Powerstage 200 with a few High Gain pedals, and the Tonex.

My issue with these and with everything marketed as a EVH style clone or emulation is, the market is so extremely oversaturated with the 5150/6505 sound man, especially in the metal scene and band settings.
It's like when you're a kid and you eat the same thing for years till you get sick of it.
I see the appeal this'll have for others, mainly from a price perspective, yet at the same time, personally, it feels like makers and builders have focused too much on the "tried n tested" formula that is the 5150/6505 sound instead of trying to go out of the box and make something new & exciting.
It's a shame honestly, in particular when we're talking about big name companies that can very easily spend the money on R&D to really put out something unique.
Probably the reason why boutique amp manufacturers catch my attention a lot more these days.

It’s true the market is oversaturated (for everything not just this), but that’s why it’s important to come up with new ideas and features to make things more fun, because at the end of the day, this is all supposed to be FUN

The built in cabs sound terrible. It sounded much better through the Powerstage. Crazy that you can't use your own IR.

The cabs sound pretty poor for high gain - way too much harsh upper mid range. I know UA love their own speaker modeling but I think they could have done better choosing mic positions/mic choices

seems like every youtube guitar channel always tries to push some new wonder petal all at the same time! . At least this dude doesn't always play the same chord progression or the same sweep lick in every video like some people. Having to sit through their playing before getting to the specifics is painful!

@@Augustofright Normally I’d say you’d be totally right. There are also many other sims that do it, let’s be real, but the one thing that this pedal has imho that sets it apart from the rest is being able to do 4 cables method. For some reasons it’s been glossed over in reviews, but I think it’s actually the main appeal of this pedal, apart from sounding great of course (from what I’m hearing so far anyway). Being able to still use an amp that has a great clean, crunch and even distortion that is way different than the 5150 (Marshall, Orange and others) to then switch to this pedal and use it for a 5150 tone as extra channels to that amp is worth it imho.

@@caelenselke-minogue I'm using both studio monitors and a really nice set of headphones. It has some terrible, terrible crackling and clipping. It sounds awful. What a piece of junk.

Universal audio is hit or miss with their pedals, the only one I actually think is their best unit is the Astra Modulation Machine

Its a Digital Amp Sim Pedal....... same as every other digital 5150 amp sim..... boring.
Do realize they offer different things but as far as just distortion i havent found anything i like more than my Amptweaker tight metal pro 2 . Love that pedal and i fear the day it gives out as they are getting harder to find
