@ I found an 8 string multi scale with EMGs in it for $220 at my local guitar shop. All I needed to do was put some tuners on it and my friend who isn’t too familiar with guitars thought it was at least a $700 guitar.
the left-over "spring noise" when palm muting is the strings on the headstock, usual stuff on reverse headstocks. Use a fret wrap or a hairband and it will disappear.
The "spring noise" you hear is most likely the pieces of string behind the nut. If you put a piece of foam and put it behind the nut and under the strings, it should fix it. Awesome guitar! You should try a Max Fusion or Amrok next!
I loved my HB. Came almost in tune & played like a dream. Still sad I sold it off to make space for an upgrade. I'm thinking about buying another one 😅
My fricking Ibanez GRGR221PA basically is like this but with a cool looking paint for about 250 I think?, they look hella sweet, I can't believe you can go even cheaper. That's so sick
For the spring noise, a trick a read about was fish tank air hose cut and put inside the springs. Been using that on my Floyd rose guitars for years and never had any noise or problems
I have the Harley Benton R-457 FFB and it’s a beautiful 7 string for $300. The flip flop metallic paint is gorgeous and the build quality is very nice. No dents or dings, frets are perfect, and it plays really well for a $300 guitar. For my first Harley Benton I think they have quality guitars for the price 👌
I've been playing for like 25 years and just recently learned how to do a good setup LOL. If you buy a string light gauge and a feeler gauge it's super easy
This was my first guitar! It was good enough to learn basic stuff and how to setup a guitar without risking too much. I still use it to take it to guitar lessons and its serving me well. I bought it new for 120e or so.
Hey i just found your video cause i think about buying that one. Now i rewatched every other budget video 😂 would you have fun on an comparison video where you show, maybe like, your top 5 budget metal guitar?
Great video dude! You should try out the Harley Benton Amarok. You can get it as a standard 6 string, baritone or 7 string. I own a baritone and absolutely love it!
The "spring" noise might also be the Strings ringing behind the nut. Have had that on one of my cheaper 7 string guitars that didn't have springs or a trem to begin with. Wrapped a sock around it years ago and that fixed the problem.
The long Allen wrenchs can be useful if the strings get stuck and don't want to come out the bridge. They are long enough to go through most bodies and bridge blocks.
I think you would like the amarok-7 from Harley Benton !! That's a very nice guitar and well made with good hardware and pickups . I believe it's $499 . Great review as always brother 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
11:03 it’s kinda funny you had an issue with the jack and then there was nothing visibly wrong with it. The same happened with my Amarok 6 string from that company
8:20 that is such a catchy riff. I've been thinking about picking up a Harley Victory, to give my arrows and v's a rest. I think this video sold me lol. Swap out the pickups for actives, quick setup and it should be a ripper!
I own the Jim Root copy strat, it's perfectly fine, better then you could expect for 150 euro, added benefit that it has a hipshot brigde so if you're not gonna need a whammy you have no spring noise and better tuning stability. Basically it's awesome..
@I.M.Guitar-Nerd I ordered a JA Baritone a few weeks ago, thing arrived a bit gross with glue and fingerprints and grease, but the setup was awesome, frets are super nice. I was going to buy a Digitech drop but I'm happy I went with the harley benton (I needed and offset for the collection anyways lol). I was skeptical as I've heard mixed things about HB when it comes to their guitars (their cabs are all awesome but I don't know from personal experience, but they are using celestions and selling for under $200)
I've got the 27" baritone DLX 7 String, but with the old setup. It got the Roswell blade pickups Still one of my work horses in my assemble. It is a neck through and blades are good for bass and synth emulation.
Man, I love these budget guitar videos and your sincere opinion. Keep it up 👍. What string gauge did you use for that low-tuning and how did the intonation hold up?
i have there ec 1000 clone with their gold "emg 1000's" with a true floyd rose on it! like freakin actual floyd branded bridge! and it was like $300 at the time! i absolutely love it! i did take it to a shop and get it set up for Drop B flat, but it absolutley rips! my buddy got the $80 black strat body stlye and put in new pickups and got it set up and it is a beast!
Really wish you bought one around 350 to 400. I have the Fusion-T (Its a tele) EMG active pickups from the factory and they gave me a 9v battery off the rip and the fret ends were perfect. The tiger striping on the roasted maple neck looks absolutely amazing. Great axe. I will definitely buy another high end Harley Benton in the future
I was going to get this one but got the r446 for $204 shipped from reverb store. Like the feel of it but im just learning guitar. Did have to turn the truss rod slightly had a slight backbow but frets are well done. Plus came with a fixed bridge figure if I go for a trem I'll get a guitar with a floyd. Does have some minimum ground noise so next string change I'll pull bridge and try and ground it better.
I think your best bet would be a harley Benton Amarok, since it looks quite similar, yet it is a higher end product from them. I've heard good things about them.
Taylor, get some cotton out of a pill bottle and cram it in between those strings. Cheap, easy, and the cotton is compressible enough to allow the springs to work normally.
I know you said you don't like les pauls too much, but I've been interested in the Harley Benton SC-500 Vintage Series. Not really too much of a metal guitar but it could be used.
Hi Taylor! Great video and really nice guitar 👍 I have two Harley Benton's and both guitars are pretty awesome. I think you should try to test Harley Benton EX-84 Modern BK but with no EMG's picups. Why I say that? Because EMG's are fantastic obviesly 😁 that model is on Roswell picups and I think this is pretty good guitar for the good price 🤘
I'd like to see you review the HB EX-84 Modern WH. The one with the Roswell pickups and not the EMG's. This is their budget Explorer James Hetfield style intro, and I would love to see your take on it.
If you ever feel like trying another HB metal type, try out one of the Amorok series. More expensive, but not outrageous, and really great sounding and feel.
12:42 I think the noise is because of the bridge. It is not grounded properly or it is painted with non-conductive paint. Turn off the noise gate and hear if there is a lot of noise. A lot of the cheaper harley benton guitars have this problem, look it up on youtube.
I wish I had learned basic luthier skills sooner than my late 60s. And I mean like 2 weeks ago. A couple of TH-cam videos and my $220 used Jackson Warrior plays as well as my supposedly valuable 50 year old Strat. Gotta do this to my other guitars, and see if that 50 yo Strat can be improved. But it's frets are down to nubs, so not much to work with there. When it comes down to basics, an electric guitar is a neck, a bridge and pickups. And pretty much anything the neck, bridge and pickups can be mounted to.
Hey dude you should really check out the Harley Benton JA baritone ! Amazing cheap 30 inch baritone guitar, and you can compare it to the G4m 638 you got a while ago
I tried the best Harley Benton baritone series (can't remember the name), bridge pickup broken, neck pick up was very weak, frets like razors. Brutal, went straight it back immediately. Never again.
I think the noise you're hearing is the strings behind the nut. I typically have to put a fretwrap or some electric tape when I set up my low tuned guitars
Try the Guitar Max signature. I recently bought one and it's impressive how much bang for your buck you're getting. Very well equipped and less than 500 dollars/euro's.
are there phx guitars in the us? they cost like 170 dollars here in brazil and have locking tuners, maple neck and alnico pick ups, im in love with my tele from them
I got the HB 8 string (the green one with the rev headstock), my ONLY complaint was the pickups were... flubby. Especially for a low tuned guitar. I grabbed a Lundgren M8 and it now sounds/plays like a $1k+ axe (also has fanned frets which I'm a big fan of for lower tuned guitars/longer scale lengths). I'd label it as the perfect "modding" guitar. Oh, and I'll be replacing the stock "locking" tuners eventually (they're pretty meh). If I was to go all-out with the mods, I'd also get an evertune in it. It just feels SO nice to play, and the neck is paper thin.
I've had 4 Harley Benton guitars, still have my SC-450 which is insanely good, especially for the money. They're solid axes. The higher end models, still a bargain considering what you get for the money, are brilliant. Seriously dude, try an Amarok 6 or Fusion 3. Amazing guitars.
Thanks Taylor for trying this Harley Benton HWY-25BKS Progressive great value guitar, whn it comes to all my Metal ish guitars this one is stunning to play it sounds good and it looks good, i have only swaped the bridge picup for a Lundgren M6, and i love the guitar even more, but the stock picups sounds good too Thanks ! =) dear Taylor for trying out Harley Benton,...i like HB guitars for a small impact on my wallet, also as they play well
I think you should try one of the nicer guitars (I mean at like the nicer end of the Harley Benton range, like the $300+, $400+ models), maybe one of the GuitarMAX or Agufish signature ones if you want to do a TH-camr guitar and do a bit of algorithm chasing. I would also recommend one of the baritones/bassVIs since those are having a big moment right now. HB is also pretty famous for their amp cab deal, so maybe consider looking at that. You could also build one of their kit guitars, either as a serious build or a joke/gimmick build.
I'm with Glen Fricker on this one: for metal, 90+++% of the sound is the speaker/cab plus mic. A decent guitar sounds decent...and DEFINITELY not dozens or hundreds of yimes worse than an expensive one. All you're getting is playability, a SLIGHT change in tome/sustain and...cache. or, the badge, if you will.
I literally just stopped playing my HB jazzmaster then got on here and watched the video. On mine the neck definitely doesnt like temp changes. The active pickups are hotter then the emg's in my jackson.
Sub $200/£200 Harley Benton guitars are usually good value for anyone who knows how to set up and do basic maintenance on a guitar. Harley Benton Guitars over $200/£200 are often just straight-up decent guitars at a great price. I've owned a load of them as I love doing outrageous mods to cheap guitars. The last one, which I still have, is a 25th anniversary Fusion III which at something like £360 equals the quality of my £740 Ibanez (That's where my budget ends these days. I'm too old and broke to pay over a grand for an instrument). Actually, for anyone looking for a good, fairly cheap guitar, I'd recommend both the HB Fusion III and the Ibanez RGD7521.
I'd love to see a demo of the Progressive Series 7-string sometime. I think it's the R-457MN. Fixed bridge, 140 bucks. also, the noise might have been from the headstock, since it's angled with no string trees. I've never had issues with the springs on a trem system making noise.
Nice Video! I think you should Check Out the Harley Benton R 446 ... because there are so different Conclutions about this Guitar..sorry for my English, i am a German
The new ones arent quite like the ones before, the one I got when they released in 2020 also has Grover Locking tuners, new ones have HB branded non locking tuners and an ugly cut at the back strap button
Has the same string ball end stuck issue with a new Jackson js22 I got last week. I just kept push-pulling on the strings until they came out. It was only 3 of the 6. We'll see about the next string change after it's been with me for a while. Nice tip though, now i'll know more quickly how to deal with it.
These types of videos show the importance of the gear you are running the guitar through. They all sound the same when you pump the sound through thousands of dollars in amps and effects
@ Used maybe but the good stuff that would have cost $800 in the 90's is over 2k now. We can call it inflation but then these new brands are delivering the goods at awesome prices.
To me it looks more like the fretboard side might be painted (clear coat maybe?) and the fretboard shrunk a tiny bit, making the fret trangs poke into the lacquer. Have seen this on several guitars and looked very much like that. (But obviously hard to tell without actually having it in front of me). The ringing when playing palm mutes might actually be the strings past the nut. Slap a fret-wrap or some foam there and see if that resolves the issue.
@@DominiqueHeine could have been! It just looked like an overly ambitious glue job to me 😂 the fret board was also pretty dry, you can see me grease it up in the time lapse

Hey taylor love the channel i think you should try out the harley Benton emg explorers
@@CBSR-bg7kn thanks!!🙏 yeah that seems to be a popular request 🧐
Glenn had a lot of fun on his channel with his
Hey dude you should really check out the Harley Benton JA baritone ! Amazing cheap 30 inch baritone guitar, and you can compare it to the G4m 638 you got a while ago
love your videos brotha
@@jigaddyjigs5908 thank you! 🙏
I kind of like the new hh strats with the invader looking pickups
I tried the best Harley Benton baritone series (can't remember the name), bridge pickup broken, neck pick up was very weak, frets like razors. Brutal, went straight it back immediately. Never again.
babe wake up taylor danley uploaded

I think the noise you're hearing is the strings behind the nut. I typically have to put a fretwrap or some electric tape when I set up my low tuned guitars
@@Dkmgshred possibly, and normally I would (idk why I didn’t think to). It DID sound like spring noise though. Very different kind of clank to it.
Great entry level guitar for sure 😊
After you put the foam in, the noise may have been coming from behind the nut. I noticed you didn’t put any foam or a string damper there.
One of my favorite guitars is my Harley Benton Sc custom ll
@prs149 those are sweet. I so regret getting rid of my fusion 3. Beautiful guitar and played so awesome.
Hey, next time buy the Harley Benton 446. Now that's an awesome metal guitar that flies under the radar. Mine is in killer Blood Matalic Red.
Actually, for anyone looking for a good, fairly cheap guitar, I'd recommend both the HB Fusion III and the Ibanez RGD7521.
i have one of these, and he was telling the truth, honestly indonesian products really awesome.
Great Video!
Maybe you should try the Amarok Guitar from Harley Benton.
Greetings from Germany!
the case with an LED light 😯😲😍
I got the HB Victory Active Matte Black this past week. Stays in tune ok, not great, pickups aren’t bad but the frets? Very sharp

You DEFINITELY have to try the EX-84, doesn't matter if you pick the one with roswells or EMGs
It's attack of the budget guitars! I just ordered the Guitar Max signature model. The big brands wanting upwards of 2k or more for a guitar is WhAcK.
Guitar Max signatures are sweet. Which one you ordered?
its a really good guitar for the money....
you can get awesome charvels for $1.000ish
@ Holo finish of course! 🤘arrives next week.
@ Used maybe but the good stuff that would have cost $800 in the 90's is over 2k now. We can call it inflation but then these new brands are delivering the goods at awesome prices.
i want to see you do this kind of video about jackson js32 warrior
To me it looks more like the fretboard side might be painted (clear coat maybe?) and the fretboard shrunk a tiny bit, making the fret trangs poke into the lacquer. Have seen this on several guitars and looked very much like that. (But obviously hard to tell without actually having it in front of me).
The ringing when playing palm mutes might actually be the strings past the nut. Slap a fret-wrap or some foam there and see if that resolves the issue.
These were my exact thoughts as well. 👍
@@DominiqueHeine could have been! It just looked like an overly ambitious glue job to me 😂 the fret board was also pretty dry, you can see me grease it up in the time lapse
That sounded amazingly good! 👏 hmmmm
Yep.... My B stock HB EX84 came with the same jack ghost :D I own 4 (i think....) Harleys. Nice guitars. My HB LP was also B stock - still trying to find why so... :D
Try one of their Fusion guitars.
