- As well as big turbos, track cars and other absurd builds we do, sometimes its good to come back to the real world.
Before we go crazy with our new 3.0 TDI A5 project we wanted to do some testing of just a custom remap vs stock.
For most people a remap is as far as they will go, for others it might just be a stepping stone before moving onto further upgrades but whatever it is here are the results!
If you weren't considering a remap, maybe you will after watching this...

I'm hooked now guys I've owned a Mk golf4 gttdi,and Skoda fabia vrs with a mild chip and loved the way it went now thinking of going back to diesel and would like an A5 or A6 with this engine.Couple of things is this engine better than the 2.7 V6?and can you do any gearbox tweaks to the standard automatic?Cheers guys keep the great vlogs coming

I find with mine turn traction control fully off plus in sport mode , and I know his sounds silly but the steering needs to be as straight as possible works on mine 🤷♂️

Yes DPF can stay no problem as long as it isn't a lump of coal!
Quick question: I have an 08 3.0 quattro manual. I plan to do a remap this summer plus dpf off and exhaustion change. How much can I get out of this safely? Do I need an intercooler change as well to get over 315 hp 700nm? I don't plan on doing straight lines so less stress for transmission. I just want for quick accelerations and cruising

Some claim over 200hp but I would say 280 is realistic!
Would really love to see if these EA897 engines stand the test of time with a tune. They are pretty tough engines and if you maintain them well they are quite reliable but before I get mine remapped I'd like to know if its going to stay reliable
With just a map I think you would be hard pushed to break one

How de dunno if it will help i have a b8 model a4 S tronic and launch control doesnt seem to work for me proper unless the break is pressed dead down from a stop car is dead straight/steering wheel also ESP of S mode gearbox.
Yeah it wont work unless you use the brake like a clutch and are perfectly straight. Need to re-test but I might have smoked the clutch!

It's just a normal clamp, it does not work too well!
Could you please explain what would it take to tune 200hp 3.0 tdi engine? How is it different from 240hp and 270hp?
Weaker gearbox and sometimes turbo but all else same really
Hi Ryan, I have a 204 hp A4 3.0tdi, although I have a multi tonic gearbox, in you opinion is it worth mapping and having my DPF removed?

Ryan what do you think about water/meth inj on diesels? I’ve been thinking about trying it on my e90 330d (m57n2). You should make a vid on water/meth injection!
We have it on a few cars, only effective if you are fuel limited!
Is this achievable on the 201hp version. I noticed there's a v6 tdi only running that amount? Is it just detuned or smaller turbo?
Just on a remap, the 201's will do around 250-260hp on our dyno. Smaller turbo on the 201
Did you try launching It? 😀... Seriously canny vid though.. What upgrade would you recommend for TDI 3.0 246Bhp.. Wanting to go to around 300. Nothing too daft.

My old A5, small world that, spent a fair few ££ #Avontuning did a few bits, still got that DIY big Toyo FMIC on it?
It had our cooler when we bought it. The tune was terrible before, I thought it was broken. It was not the best car when we bought it.
@@DarksideDevelopments Sad to here, it was in a great car for the time I had it, never any problems with the map, power delivery, or having the DPFs out, wonder what happened to it?
Plans on running it in to the ground on the track?

Is there any reason why you didn't use a A6/A7 Bitdi instead?

I imagine its not an easy retrofit. I don't even use normal cruise. We have had an SQ5 and the single turbo upgrade path is more interesting until we find upgraded Bi-Turbos that work.
Mk7 engines are still crap!
Do you guys have some experience with Mercedes V6 Diesels like the OM642?
We have tuned a few but they are not a good tuning engine past a remap in my opinion

I have a manual 3.0 capa you can try mapping for a video if you wanna do a deal 🤣 has FMIC gutted DPF and rear boxes removed🤓
We can't keep up with tuning without doing deals. We're taking bookings for February onwards!

Quick question about the old shape a5, are the s tronic and multitronic much different? They seem to have the same gear knob and set up from the cab from what I’ve seen on ebay cars for sale
Is the older (2007ish) s tronic any good and mappable or am I better off looking for a manual?

Multitronic is only on the 2.0 and 2.7's? thats a variable transmission with no real gears as such and weak!. The earlier S-Tronic are OK but not as capable as the later boxes. Tiptronic are slower changing but stronger and dont need tuning really
Darkside Developments sorry I must’ve meant stronic or tiptronic 🤦🏻♂️ how late of an s tronic box is good? Do these have identical gear sticks too then? Which one the one closer to the good modern dsg boxes we see today?
@@cwuzii 2011 onwards. The sticks are the same, just the number of gears different (DSG/S-Tronic are 7 speed)

Go for manual 3.0 quattro. Best transmission for tuning for early models.
I have it on my 08 and it's a charm when you shift through it with this engine.

I prefer how the Audi's drive and they will likely last longer.

As a non-native speaker I usually have no problem understanding what you say inside the car, Ryan. This time I had a really hard time figuring everything out, had to rewind 10+ times. Just a little note. Car's awesome tho, was good seeing the "signature red darkside notification" pop up.

I think that you must upgrade also a cp4 with more fuel and pressure, otherwise you must make the work 2 time... sorry for my poor English
Pump is OK now, past 390 I think we need cp3 or bigger CP4
Man I would love to get this car and engine if I had the money. Even if I did have the money London wants to shaft us diesel owners with these stupid emission charges
@The_Lone_ G yeah places like Bristol and Birmingham want to bring this in. I believe in Bristol they want to charge even the current euro 6 diesels as they state 'they still push out considerate pollutants'. I may have to sell my diesel fiesta as the mayor plans to expand the ULEZ charge area to the whole of London in 2021 so may have to sell the car early before depreciation hits it hard and get a cheap compliant slow city car which I don't really want to do.
Who wants to live in the city anyway?
@@DarksideDevelopments lol I'm planning on living just outside London when I start looking at properties. The ULEZ thing their plan on expanding it from central London to the whole city next year which will sadly affect me and other people who may not have good income to afford a compliant diesel
