Hi Tracie, you can use both, but by making the yarn under the stitches will come neatly above each other and your pattern will come out nice and tight. If you use only yarn overs, the stitches will move a little bit each round and your pattern will be less beautiful. You make a yarn under by bringing the hook behind the yarn and pulling it through the loops on your hook instead of wrapping the yarn from behind. Hopefully it is clear to you. Good luck!
Yes you can! Your stitches will gradually go a bit diagonally, which makes the pattern a bit different, but if you don't mind, it's certainly possible. Good luck, you can do it!

I used baby bamboo from Ice Yarns
