    Hello, Byron, I’ve just been lucky enough to discover your channel, when looking for Hobie info. You’re really relevant to my fishing pursuits because:
    1) you’re in Australia
    2) your logical, no-nonsense approach to both information sharing, and product choice & review, gives me a sense of familiarity with you straight away.
    3) you list both pros and cons equally, not glossing over any points.
    Well-shot production, clean edits, quality a/v gear, all adds up to a product that’s enjoyable to watch, informative, cost, fit and availability- relevant.
    Well done to you & your crew.👍👍

    Great insight Byron!
    Aparently the Brushless sound reduction diminishes 16:30 as the Motor ages.

    I’ve had the Garmin about a year and love it. It pushes my boat well at 24v. Only issue I’ve had with it is when a tree fell on the shaft during a storm . It’s a tough little beast. While I was expecting catastrophic damage, it only cracked the shaft and the shock damaged the control board (controller did not take a direct strike). Hell I think the tree would have done more damage to the boat itself than it did the motor if the motor wasn’t there 😂. Anyways I bought a new shaft, and Garmin replaced the board under warranty. Both were easily fixed in a couple hours, and it performs perfectly again.

      I've been looking for a recent video of the Garmin, so I appreciate this post. I've got a chance to save over $2K on some Echomap sonar's on sale at Bass Pro in the U.S., but I'm really on edge about the Force. Lot of issues floating around with the Force, with the consensus being "It's the best trolling motor on the market, once the issues get fixed". And, most of those reviews were 1-2yrs ago, minimum. Although, this is the first review I've heard talking about a poor/cheap foot-pedal design with the Garmin, or bad customer service from Garmin. Garmin US has been very responsive, by all accounts I've seen. So, this is somewhat surprising. Doesn't seem to be any good answers, at this point, short of the best price available (which in my case, at the moment, is the Force). What a mess...and Minn-Kota's supply chain only makes the Ultrex available (without the normal remote, or bluetooth, which they'll send once they become available)....how convenient for Minn-Kota. What a mess. Makes me want to throw my hands up for a ridiculously overpriced Power-Pole Move, which is supposed to be indestructible.

    Great video, certainly advantages of brushless over the old school minnkota, any word on the minnkota going brushless? I often wonder why these manufacturers don't do a polarity swap button, save spinning the head 180 degrees to move back out after retrieving a lure from a bank or obstacle. Pain in the neck going in, focusing on the job of not breaking a rod tip and removing trebles, then to have to spin the head around and try and manoeuvre back again. Be an easy mod, solenoid flips the +/-.

    A huge shame Garmin and Lowrance are only focussed on the 'bass boat' market for motors, neither are built for saltwater due to shaft length. Minn Kota motors are good, though overpriced for a brushed motor, but the Humminbird performance is terrible compared to Garmin and Lowrance sounders, especially live view, so pairing MK with a sounder is far less than optimal.

    • @ByronTeaHill
      @ByronTeaHill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey legend,
      So the models I have were the short shaft length but they do come in longer versions. I guess it depends on your boat right! I am keen to get into it, but I understand the Birds actually present a clearer image than Garmin and Lowrance but like I said, I need to try it out! 🤣

    • @soobz
      @soobz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ByronTeaHill Yeah, but Ghost maxes out at 60", Force at 57". Birds are indeed megahertz, which helps with sidescan, but their processing algorithms are way behind Garmin (also Megahertz) and Lowrance. Also Helix is not touchscreen, unlike comparable models from Garmin/Lowrance, so you need to go to Solix which is considerably more expensive than Garmin Ultra and Lowrance HDS Live yet performs worse on most metrics. But the real problem with Humminbird is that Mega Live is total crap compare to Lowrance Active Target, and Garmin is leaps ahead again with their new LVS34 Livescope and their extended range LVS62.
      Great reviews, keep it up.

    • @ByronTeaHill

I've always been a bit baffled why anyone would fit a transducer to a pseudo randomly rotating motor unless you never fish with spot lock.

      @@ByronTeaHill Hi Byron, i have no idea how brushless actually works. I just bought a Garmin Striker 7 SV sounder, my first but not installed yet. I had read an online article about being compatible with the Garmin trolling motor. Only owned a Minn Kota Riptide for 2 years & i agree i would buy Lithium once my AGM claps out or sooner 120 ah weighs a ton. At 64 this Riptide is hurting me pushing & knee it in the head to deploy & drag the hell out of it to stow the mongrel. I need an easier life of fishing & that Garmin motor looks the goods. Hahahahahahahah Lowrance costumer service vs Garmin customer service here in the states 😮‍💨 Garmin is light years better.. I mean Power-Pole comparable.. Power-Pole along with Chik-fil-a having the best costumer service in the WORLD.. I fish full time and currently run a ghost and have for the last 3 years.. TUFF AS NAILS!! Period!! Loud as a sum b**ch tho.. Blades break easy so have a spare.. Another thing about the ghost is if your a live scope guy the magnetic arrow on top is very very inconsistent finding your bait, so get ready for that aggravation.. Better at least have the 34 Garmin transducer.. Don’t even consider the active target.. I’ve literally gone threw 4 black box’s because they get sooooo hot you could almost light a cigarette off it.. Couple weeks and it’s fried.. Oh, did I mention the ghost would wake the dead far as noise… Recently I’ve made the change to the force.. Automatically, I mean in a instinct I was impressed with basically NO noise and the power vs the ghost it had!! WOW!! It would pull my fully loaded Phoenix 920 ProXP 5.5 mph vs the Ghost at 3.6 mph… Far as the spot lock,hahahahahahah hand down, feet down, just throw down everything, the Garmin stomps the Ghost and bad.. No comparison at all…. if you want to catch more fish and have a forward facing sonar machine these no comparison.. The Force hand down is the better of the two… Ultrex being the biggest piece of sh++ on the market.. I’d take my old 112 over that junk any day.. tight lines

  • @phillamoore157
    @phillamoore157 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems that there's more reasons not to buy the Force, than reasons TO buy the Force. Buy, all accounts it's the best trolling motor that exists, once all the issues get resolved. Not a good scenario for a $3600 trolling motor. It's amazing how very few affordable options there are for just a solid, durable, easy to use, spot-lock/i-Pilot, trolling motor. I could care less about Livecsope, or any other moot technology that seem to exist for people under the age of 40, who've forgotten what fishing is supposed to be about, in the first place....smh. You find a good spot...then you cast your bait. If a fish doesn't hit "said" bait, then move 10ft....rinse>repeat, and understand that a bad day on the water is still better than a good day at -a Tijuana whore house- work. Now the only concern is "yeah....but, does it have bluetooth?" But, I digress... Minn-Kota for going on 2yrs now, has made certain that the only product available is their most expensive Ultrex, which is being sent out without bluetooth & standard remote (which will "be sent to you once available"). At least in the US, that's what's happening. Power-Pole's $5K Move is supposed to be indestructible (if there is such a thing), and for $5K, it should be. Yet, $5K doesn't sound bad, when you hear about the horror stories these other models seem to be having, at some point, and the amount of time it takes to get a trolling motor fixed (whether it's still under warranty, or not). There don't seem to be any good answers if you just want something simple, durable, and easy to use. Trolling motors have been on the market for going on 40yrs now, and cost more money than the firs (and 2nd) t boat I owned, yet, the issues are an epidemic, right now (seemingly regardless of brand). You can see high-definition pictures of a group of crappie hitting your bait (or not hitting your bait) then play it back for all your friends to see at home on your flat-screen. You just aren't guarantee'd the f**king steering pedal will work when you go to steer it, or that the "bluetooth" (that the entire setup depends on) will connect when you turn the thing on What a mess this industry is in right now... I'm done whining... Not complaining at you, BTH, just dumbfounded at how bad this industry has gotten, solely due to their hasty product role outs, and -co-dependence- complete dependence on the slave-labor of indo-Chinese countries. Hitting the like, and subscribe, buttons because of the trouble you went through to bring us this info. Thank you for that.
