Hi Wes!! Thank you very much for all the informations about the headlamp and the other one.🎉🎉 I never had a waist lamp but now i'm very interested to have One! The model you show it's very cool and it seems very light and powerful. I'll check it on internet for sure! Thank you! 💪🏻⚡ This is my third week of recovery and today i had last visit, everything it's ok, I feel no pain this days and I'm very Happy!! Maybe next month I'll do a little run just to see how i feel to "eat" again the trail...fingers crossed!! 😅😅😅 And like you said in the video "the pain it's a part of the journey!" Thank you again! Keep it strong!! Big hug from Italy! 🇮🇹💪🏻
I'm so happy to hear your recovery is going well, that's wonderful news! Waistlamps are really great for illuminating the ground in front of you, the lower angle of the light casts shadows that your eyes can easily see, it is much easier to see the ground in front of you than what a headlamp does. When I started using a waist lamp I used a cheap headlamp and just stretched it around my waist!
Wes! Time is so precious and thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us! If you have chance on your next vlog, would like to hear about your experience with poles and how you integrate into daily training and races. I recently completed a 50K (Issy 50K) and used poles for the ascents but never really got into a good grove on the flats and felt the poles were detrimental on descends as it slowed my motion. Advice on how you use poles would be helpful.
Love the updates and q&a portion. I have my first 200 this year. I understand that these are very long adventures and need to be wisely paced. That being said, do you think you’ve hit paces throughout the race that were too slow (for your own personal goals)? Do you shoot for an overall pace? Or breakdown by sections pertaining to terrain? Maybe it’s less complicated and it’s just a matter of keep moving? =)
I've been using the Petzl Nao RL 1500lm for a little over a year and I'm pretty happy with it. It can be charged using USB-C which is great and it can also charge other devices like a phone in case of emergency. The downside is that extra batteries are really expensive (roughly $60 a pop).
I'm a long way from TH-cam paying my race registrations, but every little bit helps, and it such an honor to have people so interested in what I'm sharing. Wasn't that Superstitions run awesome?! It was such a cool experience.
My long run yesterday was supposed to be 10 miles. Due to my slow pace since I'm trying to build a base that meant it'd take me around 3.5 hours. Instead I wasn't paying enough attention to the route and ended up doing an additional 3 miles for a total of 4.5 hours. I guess that's just more time on feet...
Awesome cheers for answering! Running my first ultra in 2 weeks, 50 miles. I am using the apple watch ultra at the moment but always keeping my eye on Garmins.
The Apple Watch is nice indeed. If you decide to go past 50 miles you might need better battery life. Some people swear by Coros for its long battery life, but I tried Coros and I wasn't impressed feature-wise compared with Garmin. Good luck with your first ultra! I wish for you an awesome experience!
Love your videos, Wes - isn’t AZ snow just kind of magical?! This is kind of a similar question from Stephen last week - what keeps you coming back to Cocodona? And how do you eat a burger mid race and then keep running?
Wes, I have the Petzl Nao Rl and have used on a few races at night and I’m really happy with it. I like the reactive lighting and get pretty good battery life though I will carry an extra if in doubt.
I went out for a hike yesterday with my little dog on what I thought was groomed, snow-packed trail and ended up post-holing through knee-deep snow for about 1.5 miles. My dog is wiped out! Which app do you use for trail conditions?
I've looked at trail reports on a website like the Washington Trails Association www.wta.org in order to see recent trip reports from other trail users, but that's not real-time. I don't know of another way to learn about trail conditions. Sorry I don't have a better answer!
Hi Wes. Love your videos. Keep up the great content. I'll throw a question at you... What are your thoughts on the importance of training time on your feet in a workout vs distance ran in a workout, specifically for ultra training. I understand different workouts have their place but that said... which do you think is better: 14 miles in 4 hours or 14 miles in 2 hours? Or do you think they are the same as long as your heart rate is low because the mileage is the same. Where I'm going with this is I'm not sure how much I should value time on my feet regardless of pace. Appreciate you and and your videos. Cheers.
14 miles in 2 hours isn't exactly ultra pace, that's so fast! I would venture to say the 4 hour workout is better if you're ultra training, time on feet is very important.
“…look further out into the future” -I got a good giggle out of that. I’m glad you left it in 😂
You're welcome! 😂

Thanks for the thoughtful question, I enjoyed thinking about it! See you in the next episode!

Thanks for the suggestion, you're the second one to recommend this one. I think I'll get this and an extra backup battery.
Glad to see you getting more channel members! Hope it helps pay for your next race and needed gear. Really enjoyed your last Saturday long run video!

More time on feet sounds good to me!

Hi Chris, thank you for sharing this, it definitely looks like a contender. Thank you for being a channel member! 🤩
Hi wes really enjoy your vids, having raced moab 240 twice what’s your biggest advice/tips to anyone preparing for it ?
A couple maybe-good ideas in the next episode, thanks for the question!
I mean. Looking where you are running with your headlamp is looking into the future!
You are seeing where you will be.
Hopefully!
Hoping to hit my first ultra next summer (lot's of training to do)! What kind of socks do you wear?
Thanks for the question, I was excited to answer this is the next episode! 🙌🏼
