I've had Magix Music Maker for yonks, but never really used it as I found the instructions complicated and didn't feel it was very user-friendly. I switched to using other tools (Band in a Box and Garage Band) for getting ideas down swiftly. Then I stumbled on your Magix for Absolute Beginners series and I am working my way through them. Thanks for your detailed, calm and clear instructions. They have made me reevaluate the usefulness of MMM. (Although the method of pitch changing seems overly elaborate compared to a "piano roll" editor. I guess that's because these are samples and not midi notes). I especially enjoyed Number one in the series (without the background music - but by Number Five I had manged to tune it out). You have such a reassuring and soothing voice that IMHO you honestly don't need to provide backing music at all. Indeed, in general, I think backing music on informative videos is the curse of TH-cam 😜 ) Thanks again for pointing me back in the direction of MMM - which I never felt I had got any value from. Your tutorials may just change that. And Magix might benefit too, because if I get into the programme, I might just upgrade from 2014 to the latest version. PS Have you done a tutorial on using a MIDI Keyboard and /or recording real instruments with MMM?
Hi Berni. Thank you for such a detailed comment. I hope you manage to get back into Magix, it's not really all that complex when you've used it for a while, and it has advanced significantly since the 2014 version. Yes, I have video's on TH-cam using a MIDI Keyboard and real instruments, you just need to search my channel for them. Here's a starting point... th-cam.com/video/kGLfWklyLHM/w-d-xo.html I hope that helps and good luck with your perseverence with Magix. 👍
Upgraded to 2020 today and was just trying to figure out how to decreases my track heights. (The only options were set to "Big" and "default" unlike my previous version which had a "set all to small".) Ended up figuring it out though, so any MM users upgrading to the 2020 edition might run into this issue- Go to "view", "arranger", click "zoom track header". Thank you so much for taking the all time to make this series.
Hi Jackie Nix. I know what you mean about the track height adjustments. I've been in touch with Magix about it and they are aware of the problem. They're working on a fix for the next update. You might find your [Magnify Object] function doesn't work properly either, because that function relies on proper track height controll too. Very frustrating at the moment. Thanks for your appreciation of my video's and thanks for watching.

I basically need bagpipes and other folk metal instruments to use. Will i get it with the full version or do i have to buy them individually. Please let me know. Thanks!!
Hi MrHellrazer08 The full version comes with over 8,000 sound loops and multiple instruments (or 'engines'). I haven't specifically looked for any bagpipe-like sounds, but you may be able to use the Revolta 2 Synthesiser (which comes with the full version of Magix) in order to 'fashion' your own instruments. It's true that I have purchased some other soundpools, but it's worth experimenting with what's already available before going down this route. Hope this helps.
Hi MrHellrazer08 I think I originally paid GBP75.00 for MMM2017 Premium, but the prices have dropped since then. You can find details on the Magix website... www.magix.com Hope this helps.
That's what I'm wondering now, Ian. It might be that because I already have fully registered versions or MMM2016 and MMM2017 it could have been an 'upgrade' price I was offered. Particularly since I was provided MMM2018 Premium with tonnes of other stuff and serial numbers for everything.
Very helpful, thank you very much, I'm following all your videos and they are fantastic. Great job! :) I've got one question though for this one. Any time I pick a loop from any soundpool, they always look like your 'drums' in this video, and by that I mean that it shows the waveform of the audio signal and not its notes, therefore when I right click on it there's no 'MIDI Editor...' option. I do get such option when I'm right clicking on a MIDI instrument track, but not on a loop from a soundpool. In fact I can not even find the 2 soundpools you've got that have no image ("HipHop - My Territory" and "Rock Pop - Reality"), all the others figure normally in the music maker store. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to purchase some feature from the store? Hope someone can help. Thank you very much again!
Hi there. My first question is; are you running a fully licenced version of Magix? The reason I ask is because several features are disabled in the 'free' or 'lite' versions, and this could be one of them. Thanks for watching. I'm glad my tutorials are helpful to you.
Hello Tony Savage, I’ve got a fully licenced premium edition and it is up to date, also all the main features have been purchased from the store but not all of them. What surprises me is that for some loops in your videos you get the wave form and in others you get the notes (on the track itself) with no aparent reason, I always get the wave form no matter the loop. Thank you.
I think I unerstand what you're saying. What you have to remember is that you can only edit a MIDI object if it's in that format. Most of the objects in Magix are in Vorbis 'ogg' format (an audio object). So, although you can manipulate those using various other features of Magix, they can't be edited in the MIDI editor. If you notice, in my video, the Strings are produced using the 'Vita' synthesiser, and these are MIDI objects. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this very clearly but, I would say that possibly 90% of the soundpool objects in Magix are not MIDI objects. Hope this helps, if only slightly :)
Yes, that is what I was about to say, I've been looking and most of the soundpools (in fact all that I've seen but there may be others which not) are not MIDI objects, they are just 'recordings' which can not be edited note by note. It just surprised me that you had a MIDI object inside a soundpool, but now everything makes sense. By the way, one of the effects that music maker can apply on any loop is 'Vocal Tune...' inside 'Pitch & Tempo', this allows you to change the pitch note by note based on the actual audio wave form, it is kind of a distortion and it is not as good as a MIDI object as you are manipulating an already existing sound (not creating one like an instrument) but it works fair well. However I think you need to purchase some of the 'features' that are sold in the music maker store in order to have it. Anyway, thank you very much, I've seen all of your videos. Have a nice music editing/creation!
Yes, I've used the Vocal Tune feature and it's quite comprehensive. However, all of my tutorials are aimed at the absolute beginner and I'm glad you've enjoyed them.
Hello Tony ! Nice videos, really helpful to me who's learning some basics on Magix ! I'd have a question for you though I don't know if you'd have an answer for it ahah it's about the instrument editor. Astonishingly, when I right click on a track, the option for Vita doesn't show up in the little menu displaying, so I was wondering how come. Any thoughts ? PS : sorry for my mistakes but my first language is French so 😏 thanks in advance !
Hi Nico Bia. I'm not quite sure I fully understand your question, but, when you select an object and right-click on it, the actual instrument itself won't be shown. What you need to do is select the [Instrument Editor] from the menu. Only then will the actual instrument show up. Be sure you have selected an object first, because, surprisingly, it is possible to have more than one instrument on the same track (although this is bad practice). The [Instrument Editor] option will not be shown if you right-click on a blank section of a track because no instrument object can be found. I hope some of this makes sense. My apologies if my explanation is a little unclear. Thanks for watching.
Tony Savage If I understand well, rather than using soundpools loops, it would be directly through the virtual instruments that I would get to the instrument editor (?) Because I followed everything as you said and that was the only step I didn't achieve.
Hi Nico Bia. If you are going to use the instruments, rather than the loops, then you will be playing either the virtual on-screen MIDI keyboard or an external MIDI keyboard. In this case, you will be generating MIDI objects and using the MIDI Editor or the [Inspector] tab. Any instrument can be assigned to your MIDI objects - but only one instrument is allowed per track. The nice thing about using MIDI is that you can swap and change which instrument you want to use with each track. It would be a good idea to view some of my other video's for more information. Here's just one of them that might help... th-cam.com/video/OIFywYKIEqE/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps a little.
