  • In this video I hope to explain how to create your own sounds, convert them into MP3 format for later use and insert them into your future projects as 'Objects'. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I'm not an expert at this stuff, but I like to share my experiences with others.

      Hi Dave.
You seem to be getting the hang of the basic functions of Magix now.
Well done, and good luck. 👍

Tony! I always pick up a little new tip when checking out your videos! I feel as that I've been underestimating the value of converting midi's to mp3's.

There always seems to be someone who doesn't appreciate what you do!
But, I suppose, from a global point of view, that's not a bad thing really ;-)

      Hello deathhour reaper.
I have been asked this question quite a few times.
First of all, are you running a fully registered and licensed version of the software (do you have a Magix account)? Or, are you running the free download version? The free download version is just a 'taster' of the software, which has many of the advanced features disabled, and I think the MP3 function is one of them - together with a serious limitation on soundloops and instruments. If you do have a licensed version, then the best thing to do is email Magix with your problem, they're usually quite good at resolving most problems, although they may take a while to reply to you once they've issued you with a ticket number. Sorry I can't help you any further myself, but the best of luck in getting your version of Magix up to speed. By the way, there is now currently only one version of Magix being marketed - Magix 2018, but all the other versions are still supported. Please let me know how you get on.

Maybe I just drifted off watching this, but I thought that at 15:25 you said that you cannot fade MIDI objects, and then proceeded to generate an MP3 file in order to be able to do that. Then at the end (around 24:45) you inserted two MIDI objects and successfully faded both of them out along with the MP3 file. What did I miss?

    • @LPGexpert
      @LPGexpert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Rich Zuchowski.
I wondered when someone else was going to notice that. Well done ;-)
It's true that, in general, most MIDI objects cannot be faded, but, as you observed, some of them can. I think this depends on the coding of some MIDI objects. If you've tried, you'll also notice that most inserted MIDI objects won't produce any if you try playing it from a point other than the very beginning unless there is a note change (not necessarilly a pitch change) within that object itself. As an example, try recording a note from the virtual keyboard for two seconds, then, release the key and press it again for another two seconds. Stop recording and put the playback cursor at (say) one second, then start the playback, you'll notice that the first note will be silent, but the second note will play perfectly. This is because the information needed to produce these notes (including volume information) is stored at the very start of the object (not the whole MIDI object itself). Therefor, if a MIDI object contains many sub-objects, this information can be changed throughout the playback process, which is effectively what the fade control is doing.
That's my interpretation. I could, of course, be talking a load of old rubbish and I welcome anyone to enlighten me.
Again, thanks for noticing and bringing it to my attention.

Tony! Help. How do I import an audio file & record my part next to it, without it pitch shifting the audio file & changing the tempo? It changes my source file.

    Hi Tony
You can save created Midi files as objects and put then it in a sound pool and use them the conventional way. This is going to be a long post but here goes. First go to
    c:/users/public/public documents/magix/common/soundpools/shop
in this directory shop you will see a list of directories. COPY DO NOT MOVE one these directories to your desktop. Rename this directory to what ever you want. This is your new SOUNDPOOL directory
Now open this directory. Here you will see another directory list. DELETE these directories this will leave you with just four files.
Two png image files (Deal with these later) and two others. One is Description.xml and the other is BPM.inf
Now create a new directory here calling it what you want. Preferably something that describes your new object files/loops you will create. This is your new LOOPS directory. Go back to descktop.
Now COPY the new soundpool directory back into c:/users/public/public documents/magix/common/soundpools/shop
OK now create the midi file as per your demo. Then with the object NOT selected click on file export and choose
    audio as ogg vorbis
Then direct the save to your new SOUNDPOOL directory/ LOOPS directory you previously created.
Now in Magix Music Maker click the gear wheel icon top right of your screen then select add more soundpools in the window find your new Soundpool directory , select it, then click ok.
You will now be able to use the loop/loops you just created.
OK the two image files I mentioned earlier, these files determine the icon picture you see in your soundpools list.
If you want to create your own find a suitable image. From this image create two png files with dimensions that match the file description. Name the two files to match the old names and replace the two in Soundpool directory. If you do this after you have added the soundpool via.....add more soundpools....you will have to repeat this operation.
Hope that makes sense? Any questions?

Well done, Ian. You've certainly delved into this much deeper than I have (or you've got too much time on your hands). I've got no questions at all, you've explained it pretty well. I understand why you copied the directory to the desktop, but it could have been copied anywhere else too, just easier to work with in on the desktop. What you should do now is to make your own video tutorial explaining the process and upload it to TH-cam.

      Hi Tony
I have probably delved into this side of Music Maker more deeply. However I am way behind on music creativity, but that being said I have now got some ideas. Thanks to you. ;)
Yes being retired gives you a little spare time, now I just need to start making music ;) I am going to restart piano lessons which may or may not help.
I will take a rain check on the tutorial. Screen capture does not pose a big problem but the sound recording would. I would have to invest in recorders etc.

      Hi Ian.
With your permission - and when I have the time - could I produce a tutorial video about this on your behalf? You will be credited in the video, and I think it's something that would be of interest to many other Magix beginners.

Thank you, Ian. It might be a couple of weeks before I get around to doing it. But I will do it.
Now, why don't you start using Magix for what it is intended for - making music. Start getting creative ;-)
