Magnus Carlsen SHOCKS Hikaru w/ NEW OPENING! (The Norwegian Kangaroo!) || Magnus New Chess Opening!

  • Magnus Carlsen shocks Hikaru with a brand new opening in one of their latest Titled Tuesday matches on Chess.com! This new opening from Magnus Carlsen was so shocking, Hikaru nearly LOSES IT during the game! I've decided to name this Magnus Carlsen new opening the "Norwegian Kangaroo" for reasons you will soon discover!
    In the game Hikaru opens 1.e4 (best by test!) and Magnus Carlsen responds with 1...a6 - the St. George Defense, and a very disrespectful irst move at the highest level. From there Hikaru takes control of the center with d2-d4 and Magnus responds 2...Nc6, intending 3.d5 Na7! From there the game gets even weirder, with Magnus Carlsen busting out his new opening idea vs Hikaru on the very next move!
    To everyone's shock, Hikaru did not react correctly to Magnus Carlsen's new opening, and the game quickly descended into chaos with Magnus Carlsen launching an all-out attack against Hikaru and Hikaru doing his best to defend against Carlsen's constant threats! There were many more twists and turns to the game, so make sure to watch till the very end of this video to see all of the new ideas from Magnus Carlsen's new opening variation (The Norwegian Kangaroo!).

    What do you think of Magnus Carlsen's new opening - the "Norwegian Kangaroo?" And yes, the !! symbol on move 4 was added to emphasize the genius of Magnus Carlsen's new opening, the other annotations are correct 😉

      Thst was a careless lazy, not thought out opening, which he did for the sake of doing something different.... and eventually drawn the game by his natural prowess.

    Trying to force the name of a 'new opening' by constantly saying it in the video, putting it in the title, or including it in the comments just because you want to be credited with inventing it, ruins the video, it feels so cringy. I don't know why it annoys me, but I think that is because it shows how many people want to take advantage of any situation to seem relevant, even though they didn't actually do anything. Also, the name doesn't sound good either for me, don't know for everyone else. AND ALSO, the invented symbol at move 4, naah man.

      Sorry you don't like the video brother, I did NOT invent this opening, the credit goes to Magnus Carlsen there. I'm not taking any credit here for Magnus Carlsen's new opening, so I have literally zero clue why you would suggest that. But this was a brand new opening by Magnus (his novelty was on move 4), and it was an extremely entertaining back-and-forth game, which fully justifies doing a video on the game. And the free market seems to agree this was a great game, hence the views. I guess you can't please everyone!

Instead of playing a main line opening, he played The Norwegian Kangaroo which was first invented by Magnus during this match when he played The Norwegian Kangaroo. It was especially effective because Hikaru wasn’t playing The Norwegian Kangaroo but Magnus was playing The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo. The Norwegian Kangaroo.

    The opening resembles the famous Dodge city Kansas opening, where the cowboys played the same way. After six months with the cows on the prairie and in the dust, and having found saloons, they suddenly decided to try playing chess - surrounded by whiskey and pistols. Here it is very obvious that Magnus improved that opening.

    you should have maybe said your pet name for it twice, at the start and once at the end. forcing it so many times into the video just makes everyone dislike the entire idea. it also already has a name.

    How can an opening be that important...? It's not like an F1-race, where the one that takes the start, has a good chance to win the race..! Instead... it must be during the rest of the game, where the strategic moves and intelligence will increase the progress forward a possible victory.....

    • @drmikechess
      @drmikechess  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That line of thought makes a lot of sense on paper, but chess opening theory and principles often extends deep into the middlegame and endgame - especially in modern tournament praxis. This has been exacerbated by modern neural network engines etc. So today, a very deep understanding of openings and the middlegames / endgames that arise from them is 100% necessary to compete at the highest levels of the game. As an example, after his loss to Magnus Carlsen in the 2024 Speed Chess Championships Semi-Finals, Hans Niemann mentioned opening preparation as the #1 thing he needed to improve before his next matchup against Magnus!

      @@drmikechess I don't agree with that total decline of my ideas. Because already after a number of moves the current positions often have broken any pre-estimated strategy. I believe, that forcing one of those latest chess computers with a "bad" opening, they probably could win anyway..!? (Have anybody tried that..??) Because of their capacity to predict so many moves. In the middlegames the positions are so randomly and rare, that nobody can prove, that they are a result of a certain opening.

      @@lordnilsson It doesn't prove anything. Playing kind of a new opening doesn’t mean it hasn’t been prepared in advance.
      The goal is precisely to surprise your opponent with lines he don’t know in order to create some advantages.
      At this point, I’m curious to know your level to be questioning the training of these top-level players..

    This fella does great commentary on some brilliant chess games, but he’s overstepping here by trying to claim the naming rights to someone else’s opening just by repeating the lame name he plucked out of thin air 10 x. Feels rude of him to be trying it.
