What do you do if the "uninstall" is grayed out and you can't click on it?
You can't uninstall it. I'm finding out that I can't uninstall the Amazon Photos app that I don't need... Ugh!
This won't work for apps that came pre-loaded that you didn't install yourself, as they're permanently burned into ROM. As mentioned many times here in these comments, but shouldn't this be stating the obvioius for anyone that's ever owned a cellphone, which behaves exactly the same way? Pre-installed means you're stuck with it.
Best you can do is (1) go to settings and clear cache and data for any app you've used previously to free up as much memory as possible, and (2) create an "Unused" folder on the desktop and drag the icons for apps you don't want into that, so at least they're not cluttering your screen and you don't have to look at them.

No, doesn't work for pre-installed apps which you're much more likely to want to uninstall than those you've installed yourself!
As you've discovered, pre-installed apps can't be uninstalled, as they're burned into ROM, same as apps preinstalled on any cellphone.
What I've done first thing on my Fire tablets is create a folder called *Unused* on the desktop, and drag all the apps I don't want into that. They're still stuck in memory of course, but at least this way they don't clutter the screen.
I installed Audible through the their website but no app icon shows up. Trying to delete it to redownload it but can't find it Amazon fire 7 2020 Edition, can't find a case either
Sadly, doesn't work for Alexa and other Amazon bloatware.

Thank you very much. Of course, you can't uninstall any app from Amazon, but I loaded too many things when I first got the tablet. Now it's free of useless programs.
