  • In this video we revisit a place that i filmed two years ago. I titled in the Almost Abandoned Mausoleum because of its troubled past. Sadly, things have only gotten worse for this sacred place. So come along with me as we learn the latest about this sad and decrepit mausoleum. Enjoy
Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

Thank you for doing an update. This absolutely breaks my heart. Families have paid probably alot of money to honor their loved ones wishes in that cemetery. Now due to negligence of owners they are faced with paying for services yet again. My thoughts are that the county should force the negligent owner to cover those fees for the families.

    • @gailsharkness9909

Yes, even though the Yanaitis Family who has a beautiful funeral home in Plains, PA has stepped in to help (thank God they have done so...I give them all the love in the world for doing this...stepping up to help) there would be ANOTHER FUNERAL BASICALLY THAT HAS to be held for the removal of the body, transportation to a new location (mausoleum) & purchase of it; new engraving for a name, & if the casket is cremated, (that is probably the less expensive way to go for a family it all still costs $$$$) When people purchased these mausoleums way back when, you expected that they are going to be well taken care of, perpetual care they call it.... Not like this, this is shameful, & though I only live a few miles away, I cannot bring myself to go there. My beloved Dad is in a gorgeous new mausoleum that is in Hanover Twp. PA at St. Mary's Cemetery, & we went through quite a bit because my Dad died BEFORE THE NEW MAUSOLEUM WAS BUILT. I don't want to go into all the details, but my Dad & 45 other bodies were placed in "temporary" mausoleums that we couldn't engrave (we purchased a small metal engraved plaque with my Dad's name on it, and date of birth & date of passing) & stuck it on the outside of his "temporary home"...they say (paranormal experts) that when bodies are NOT properly taken care of, that the spirit of the dead remain "unsettled". After 6 years, & 2 movings, my Dad is in his final resting spot inside the beautiful St. Mary Mother of God Mausoleum at St. Mary's cemetery. My Mom & I will also be placed in this mausoleum when our time comes. Cemeteries, burials, funeral businesses, cremation, caskets, headstones, etc. are all BIG BUSINESS!! These poor people PAID for a good final resting home, & they got mold, dampness, & desecration. How sad, how disrespectful!! MY GOD!!

The cement “burial vaults” you’ve found behind that office building are typically used for underground/in ground burials, they would not fit in a mausoleum crypt. Most cemetery properties have a number of these on hand for immediate use.

I find the condition of this place so disturbing and disgusting. When the original owners couldn't maintain it anymore they should have asked for help. The second owners who deny they knew it was a mausoleum are a bunch of liars and heartless. Then the County or State or whoever took ownership after the second clowns deserted it, to me are the worst offenders of them all. These are people who lived in their communities who worked and paid taxes. How dare they just let these families go through even more heartache. It's so disturbing all around. Great video though.

When caskets are interred in a mausoleum, they are just slid into the concrete "crypts" then sealed by a gasket and the outer marker. What you were looking at in the woods are burial vaults. Those are inserted into the ground and the casket is sealed inside it, then covered over by the dirt and grass.

Those concrete things in the woods are called “vaults” and the bottom part is put into the grave first, then the casket is lowered into it, and then the concrete top is put on top with some sort of sealing caulk, or sometimes a black, tarry pitch. It is usually required for most cemeteries because it keeps the ground from sinking as the coffin breaks down over the years. Sunken in graves pose a hazard for riding mowers and for those of us who do not enjoy broken or twisted ankles!
In some parts of the south, graves are dug just deep enough for the bottom half of the vaults, and then the casket is placed inside and the lid of the vault is sealed to the top of the bottom half of the vault, thus making the top of the vault the top of the grave. A name plate is usually affixed to the top, or a separate stone is placed at the head of the vault. Some vaults are only buried a little ways down or not at all. It’s up to the family and the rules of the cemetery, city, or county.

People donate their bodies (free) & the bodies are laid out in various scenarios that typically law enforcement finds decedents in; under trees vs open sky, in cars, under tarps, under water, in various other things...or not. They've tried to think up all the different ways that ppl have died, or worse. They study the changes germaine to the various different situations & are valuable to the legal system & offer ABSOLUTE expert witness testimony in a "yes your Honor it does go like THAT" or "no, you people are nuts, it doesn't".

Another awesome video! Whoever designed the building in the first place was incompetent. If you live in an area where it snows you know flat roofs are just asking for trouble.
Things everyone should learn from this video: 1) Never put a loved one in a mausoleum. 2) Avoid private cemeteries, you never know when they could go broke. At least ones associated with churches or townships have a better chance of being taken care of. 3) cremation or some biodegradable alternative is the way to go. No chance of floating away in a flood, your internal goo flowing out or your body being desecrated in some way.

Pretty terrible that the city would allow a cemetery to be orphaned or abandoned. Some of those remains may have no one left or maybe those related have no clue about the condition of the property. Glad the funeral director that's helping stepped up.

So sad see this! Yes those are the burial vaults that go in the ground and the casket is placed inside. I pray that all the remains there are eventually relocated. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the update, though so sad. As others have noted, I’m sure their are cases where there are no loved ones left, and cases where the family cannot afford to pay the burial expenses twice - even at a reduced rate (though I sincerely applaud that funeral director for offering that). Canada seems to have it right (based on your Canadian viewer’s comment). We have many things wrong in this country, and this strikes me as VERY wrong. I did not realize that in burying our dead we were essentially selling them to people who may lose interest in caring for them.

  • @raymondbergeron2853

Seems like most of those of those deceased are Italian, at least on the inside. We have a mausoleum in our state that is also abandoned worse than this and it is condemned and a funeral home is going to have to remove approxi 527 bodies, this is only an estimate they stopped counting after the 527. This is in Providence, Rhode Island.

Feel very sad for the families. The concrete boxes you saw are vaults or liners. They are put into the ground, and the casket is placed inside of it. It is supposed to protect the casket. Thank you for sharing this story with us. I did watch the original video earlier today, so the update was appreciated.

    Hi, JP
Wow! Thank you, JP. This is just terrible. I don't understand why the place was sold with the bodies still inside. You would think that the former owners would've extracted the bodies and moved them prior to selling. I also don't think it's fair that the loved one's have to pay to have their loved ones extracted when they had already paid the expense of having them buried upon their deaths. Seems to me that the responsibility of extraction should go to whomever purchased the building and let it go like this or the former owners before them. This was certainly not something you see everyday. Thank you so much for this explore, and for all the background information on it, JP. My heart goes out to the poor families that have to deal with this situation now.

What I like about your adventures...you learn about the history of the building or what you are exploring. It is a shame that the owners neglected the upkeep of the whole area. Who expects where you buried a loved one that the owners would not take care of the resting place and let the building become condemned.

I gotta add something. My grandparents are buried in a public cemetery that's previously been attached to a church that relocated years ago. It was maintained by POOR EASTERN KENTUCKY HILLBILLIES a zillion times better than this Wyoming hole. The county government eventually solved a 2-fold problem when it took over maintenance several years back. People who *can* collect some money & pay the county for the jail inmates who mow, weed eat & clear old debris from the century old cemetery. It looks like Hollywood's Forrest Lawn cemetery compared to this shameful mess. Somebody ought to have their hind ends kicked up between their shoulders every day for each day it's been neglected.
