Great Review! 99% of people who say "It's not a real M car" have never bought a BMW much less an M5. I would probably buy this over the M5 as a daily driver. In the conclusion, you really nail it. Don't be an expert on something you haven't driven. I have driven both by the way.

The space saver spare tire only comes if you get the optional high-performance summer tire package. Otherwise, it’s a fix a flat kit with more space in the trunk. (You can just take all that stuff out anyway, if you want.)

Great video bro. You're absolutely right. There's really no need to get an M5 unless you track every weekend. I drove both M5 LCI and M550 LCI and eventually booked an M550i. Its just better in everything, especially daily driving on normal roads.
Btw, the car comes with soft close door and massage napa leather seats. They are options though, not standard!

@Krush GamerLife - the 2021 LCI M550i does not come with soft close doors. They got rid of it for 2021.
The M5 still has it, though. I wrote BMW Customer Service and expressed my displeasure with that.
That’s the only thing missing from mine that I wanted (just took delivery 2 weeks ago).

@@omardrives couldn’t agree more. I’d never say the 550 is a “better” car; they’re very different machines. It all depends on what you’re looking for , what’s important to you, and how you plan to use the vehicle. I know many M5 owners that “refuse” to take their M5 to the track because they don’t want to put all that stress and wear on the vehicle, but to each their own. I am very happy with my fully loaded 550; no regrets not buying the M5.

  • @bjornaltmann8184

Of course i have to agree, that the M550i is more value for the money compared to the M5, BUT: If your preference is a comfortable daily driver with lots of power, the 540i Xdrive (ca. 340 Horse power) is in my opinion the car to choose. The M550i has already almost the power as the older M5, which had as a non competition model 560 (European) Horse Power. But for the M-Models you can order the Driver's package, which allows you to drive 305 Km/h. All non M-models are limited to max 250 Km/h. So my problem is with the M550i, it could run much faster, you paid for that potential, but suddenly that powerful engine is castrated! For that reason I took the 540i and saved even more money. My next one will be the M5 competition with the Driver's package, so that you can enjoy for what you have paid for ! :-)......And by the way, the LCI competition is not so stiff anymore compared to the pre LCI. And if you want maximum comfort, take the normal M5, it shall be pretty comfortable and similar to the M550i. Best Regards from Germany

    I’m cross shopping the e53 m550and S6,
Even though the msrp are all within $5k of each other, BMW offers the strongest lease incentives. M550i can be had for under $1k/month vs the other options ranging from $200-$400 more.
You made a point about getting a V8, but the E53 looks and drives amazing! I haven’t driven the other 2 options, but I need to make a decision this week.
    I’m currently in a 2016 f10 535i xdrive M-Sport.
I don’t want to pay $1,400/month for the Benz, but I’m thinking the similarities between my f10 and the current 2021 m550i are slight. Do you think I would regret purchasing the M550i without a test drive? Or should I save $400/month and suck it up? Also, how does it compare to the E53?
    TIA

Hands down, these are 2 different platforms that are in no way in comparison to one another. The 540i is akin to the E53 in power and acceleration. The M550 is closer to the E63

@@blazinmark1 Funnily enough I made the opposite switch, I had an M550 for 2 years and my lease was due 2 months ago, I was contemplating between E53 AMG or another M550 and ended up getting the E53 AMG, I do miss some stuff from my M550 but I'm loving my new, much more sophisticated interior and ambient lighting, also to my surprise the build quality is not on par with BMW, MB looks much fancier than the BMW inside but the materials and the overall snugness/build quality of the interior isn't on BMW's level which I found pretty shocking(I feel cheated in this regard lol) and the performance is a little(read a lot) lackluster compared to my BMW. What I disliked the most about my BMW was the transmission tuning, I absolutely hated it, a car with so much hp and torque shouldn't stay in such top gears when you're going at street speeds which makes renders all that torque useless when you can't access it immediately, by the time the tranny downshifts and the turbo lag goes away it takes a freaking lifetime, the MB on the other hand has much superior tranny mapping and is always at low gears in spirited driving + the EQ boost system = much better *perceived* off the line performance which is a lot more useful in traffic than 553 lb-ft that comes 2 days later lol

Those questions remind me of when people say "I would hate to clean a house that big". It means you can't afford it.

@@PlayafromtheHimalayas I was considering buying an M550, M3, or M340i but I went with the M340i due to the reliability concerns. I could have gone with the V8 but I drive way too many miles to feel comfortable with that given the reputation of the hot V8 configuration. I suppose if I had gone with the M550 and the engine ever blow up, I could call my wife to pick me up in her Lexus. 😂
