I would get this over the m5 any day. the m5 is just too much power. The only problem I have with the facelifted 5 series is the exterior design. I feel they ruined it. the taillights on this model.. yikes. the new bmw taillight design doesn't work with the shape of them. The headlights don't have the classic bmw halos, and the front grille is much too big. Get a 2017 m550i over this, same car, but better looking and cheaper.
About MY only zonk, is the fact of no ventilated seats. I now need a lottery win..... ON THROTTLE, all the time! Lori got some great angles on this. Thanks for all you do, lori!
The 0-60 time is the bigger issue with the m550. BMW claims 3.6, but it has problems with getting full power down in 1st gear. This 2021 LCI struggles to break 4 seconds to 60. Meanwhile the heavier m850 xDrive gran coupe rips to 60 in 3.5 with the same engine and power output.

Whoever built/ordered this car did awful job on the configuration. Aventurine Red metallic exterior color ($1950 option) on Cognac interior with Blue calipers? They should have went with Red Calipers. Bowers & Wilkins is a $3400 option by the way so this is why MSRP is $93k. At least they got the wheels right, the 668M wheels are 🔥 btw, Ventilated seats are a $500 option but these not available with Cognac interior.

You had more "on throttle" fun with this review...your second on the 2021 M550i. Of course, with the help of your first review, I bought one! It has the Nappa Leather with front ventilated seats...BEST car I've ever owned!!!
Quarter mile times are in the high 11 second range bone stock. Unless you plan to track your car, this is the 5 to get. The ride is much smoother for a daily driver than the M5, and with a 0-60 in the mid 3s you're still faster than 99% of the cars on the road. And if you must, there are kits that can drop those quarter times into the 10s for not a ton of cash.
This is a press car for automotive testing. Thats the only thing that makes sense with it not being equipped with ventilated seats. I believe these get crushed eventually. Sick car for the most part. Id change the interior color and add the butt coolers.
I would never afford this car but it is sexy inside and out. Really clean lines and the paint and rims are SICK! Will look online and see if anyone has an aftermarket exhaust on one of these.

I dont want nobody have problems with bmw grill they got to upgrade like everyone else's too so dont expect they should carry on with the old small grill if they do what difference would it make ??? I love bmw new grills upgrade
The influence these german autos had is gone, people now see that for the most you are paying for the emblem. For 93k there is nothing special except for the styling and the emblem.
I’m late on this one but, that’s a beautiful car and looks and sounds like a blast to drive but, can be a super comfortable car also. Always loved the 3 and 5 series BMWs
No heat extractors in hood, ventilated seats, Bombay armrest doors that you have to lift items over, lack of a panoramic moon roof and the info system looks like an add on - I prefer them built into the dash or like Ram is doing with their trucks. For my money the vehicle should be more aggressive and wider and better optioned - it basically looks like every other sedan in its class but lacking options but for $93K USD - not special enough for my taste. Joe, please keep the wonderful reviews coming!
I finally got to see one of these in person and at first sight I thought it was a 7 series because how big it is . Very nice car but I wish bmw would bring the proportions back down to midsize .
The interior is very very nice, but there really isn’t’ anything that separates it a lot from something like a loaded Kia or Mazda. I know the car is what it is because of the engine, but for that price, the interior has to be above and beyond, this doesn’t have it

I'm with ya with the ventilated seats.Looked at alot of BMW models,wanting all the goodies,and ventilated seats are very hard to find in the BMW line-up. Have to purchase a "Luxury Executive Seating" package which gives you vent. seats along w/front massage seats ,even looked at 100k+ 7series that didn't have vented seats,I don't get it either.Good review and nice car otherwise.
To be honest my last 5 series had ventilated seats (executive pkg)...didn't use much. My new m550i.....without...I'm good I'll take the power over the ventilated seats...for me at least

I own the EXACT same M550i, except mine is in Tanzanite Blue... You are underselling the sound of the exhausts buddy! Next time, put the car in Sports Plus and throw the shifter into “N” that’s when you hear the burbles and loud bangs! My car sounds MUCH better than what you demonstrated! Also, ventilated seats are an option for $600, plus my car has Massage seats (extra $1,000). It’s not a Zonk if the car isn’t optioned properly 🤦♂️
