  • I was back in my hometown of Stratford Upon Avon in Warwickshire and thought I would do some landscape painting en plein air. I had my painting gear and the weather was cold but dry. Too good an opportunity to miss!
The location I chose, was where I often used to play and walk the dog when I was a kid. It had changed since my last visit due to building works so I had to change the view I wanted to paint. Instead of painting the view towards Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried, I looked towards Welcombe Hills which is a popular walking area.
It was great fun to be out painting plein air where I grew up. Some of my plein air sketches from 1992 feature in a previous video. Most of them were done in the fields that are currently being built on!

I missed this one, but well worth catching it now - so often you go back to well-remembered scenes, and the buggers have built all over it, usually with God-awful houses connected by roads which scar the landscape. Depresses the Hell out of me, but there we are.

It is depressing. I dread to think what this much loved landscape looks like now

So calming, Andrew. I look forward to your videos every Sunday as a break from my day, so thank you. Like the previous comment, I appreciate the running monologue of your thinking process-including the reminiscing! Have a wonderful day. :)

Hi Andrew, enjoyed the video and subscribed. I live not far from Stratford Upon Avon and I find myself having to walk further every day to paint in order to avoid building sites! Maybe we will come across each other in the landscape some day.

Thanks for the sub - I appreciate your support. Yes maybe one day we will bump into each other in Stratford - if there is any green left when I next visit for painting! Best wishes - Andrew

Do you use genuine manganese or a hue? I love your work and the palette of colors.

Thanks Michael - I use the hue. I think genuine Manganese blue was discontinued due to health concerns
