PLEIN AIR PAINTING - Fal River Cornwall landscape in oils

Today I'm plein air painting a landscape in oils overlooking Restronguet Point on the Fal River in Cornwall.
It was a lovely day with very changeable lighting conditions - the kind I really love! Keeps me on my toes and I have to make changes as I go to keep the painting tonally unified. This plein air painting was completed on location and I didn't feel it was necessary to add anymore to it - I liked it as it was.
It is all part of my series of landscape paintings based on the Fal River and Carrick Roads that will be exhibited at Royal Cornwall Museum July until December 2022.

Great painting. I am enjoying watching my way through your videos. I am English but live in Canada now and enjoy seeing the beautiful scenery in your videos as well as watching you paint . I paint ( in oils ) and as you pan around where you are painting and show other beautiful views I thought hmmmm how great it would be if you snapped pics of the views and made them available - in a book maybe? for other painters to buy for inspirational views to paint.

I will try and setup a page on my website with links to downloadable free reference photos. When I’m out painting next week I’ll be sure to take extra photos just for this purpose

Hello Andrew - I’m really enjoying your videos and am learning a lot from them. I was very sad that we didn’t get to see you painting in the leafless trees. I’m just SW across the pond from you in New Hampshire and every deciduous tree here is leafless. I love our winter landscapes, especially on cloudy, moody days, but am really struggling to paint the trees. Mine always look like spilt coffee. Looking forward to your next painting !

Another lovely painting Andrew. Love the green sunlit fields in the distance and the dark edge of the land on the left as it meets the sea. Really restful, gentle scene.

My biggest challenge seems to be the ability of eliminating unnecessary details, and merely "suggesting" objects within the landscape. Once again you have made that skill look easy.
