as an artist, i loved getting to see someone go in-depth with an overlooked part of skyloft's charactet designs! i'm also amused at how much the "tail swirl" on link's crest reminds me of the gamecube logo
I try to make it a goal of mine to leave absolutely no detail, no matter how small, overlooked in Zelda games! In games in general honestly. I just love to appreciate every little aspect that went into the creation of them. Also, I can't unsee the GameCube logo now, lol. Looks like I still have plenty of work to do when it comes to noticing details!
Thank you very much! There's just so many unique crests with their own backstory that I had to make a whole video about them. Now I'm back on the prowl for even more hidden details in Skyward Sword, there's still some great stuff out there to find!
What a fascinating theory! I never noticed the different crests on the Skyloftians so it was awesome to hear your thoughts about it. The whole idea of the crimson loftwing mark on the Hylian shield blew my mind as well!
I was blown away by this theory. I can't imagine we've been missing so many details under our noses this whole time! I may have an explanation for the siblings. From what I've read up about European crests, only the eldest son inherited the family crest--other sons had to modify the crest to create their own versions. If Skyloftians follow a similar practice, the brother probably has the original family crest and the sister has her modified version. I also noticed Gulley's crest is slightly different than his mother's (at the very base), which may suggest he's not a first born. However... Gulley's crest is only slightly different from his mother's, unlike the siblings. Still confusing 😅 I have to wonder if people can 'earn' crests. Given that most family crests are bird designs, the few that aren't really stand out, like the fortune-teller's. It may be that occupational crests may evolve into family crests over time, or that there's a complex system behind designing crests, given your theory that the two crests on the outside of the Bazaar belong to groups instead of individuals or families. If so... I have to wonder if Link's crest is a family crest or one bestowed on him because he was chosen by the extremely rare Crimson Loftwing. Given how similar Zelda's family crest is to Hylia's, I would expect the original champion's family to have a similar crest to the one on the shield. However, I'm still partial to the idea that Link IS related. Especially because I like the idea that part of the reason Hylia raised Skyloft to begin with was to protect her champion's family. But whether Link is the champion's hereditary or chosen successor (or both), I love the way that the Crimson Loftwing ties the two heroes together through time
Very cool theory! I've been playing through Skyward sword again and it's amazing to see just how much lore is packed into this game. It's especially fun to look at it after playing totk. Lots of references and similarities. It's got my theory brain cooking.
I shall always find it amusing that lore wise, the bird inspired the shield, but in truth, the shield was the inspiration for the bird. While bird-like designs have appeared as far back as A Link to the Past, the classic design of the Hylian Shield first appeared in Ocarina of Time. I can't say if I noticed the various crests, and if I did, I didn't pay much attention to them, which made this interesting. With Link's belt in the way his crest somewhat resembles a bed, which given his history of starting a game sleeping, it would also be appropriate.
Sort of like how Lore wise, the towns in Zelda 2 were named after the Sages (and Mido) in OoT while irl the Sages (and Mido) were named after the towns
Honestly i love whenever someone goes in depth on the details in skyward sword, its probably my second or third fav traditional Zelda and i love when it gets love
I only played Skyward Sword 3 times, twice on the Wii and once on Switch where I enjoyed it way more than ever before (without motion control) and only that time I fully realized how amazing and alive Skyloft is. It's really one of the best towns in the series tbh but even then I hadn't noticed all these details you showed here. Absolutely amazing video.
Side thought. The whole diving onto your bird thing is kinda similar to the bravery tests of the zonai youths mentioned by several of the constructs in totk. Could this be a call back to a time where the two cultures existed together? Like the tribal looking hylians of totk, but at another point in time kind of deal.
I always understood Skyward Sword's Link to be himself the original hero that defeated Demise - indeed he does so, in the past... "prior" to this Demise had only been sealed by Hylia, by a very fragile seal that necessitated future reincarnated Hylia to reinforce it by freezing herself in a crystal. Anyway Skyward Sword is a great game and awesome lore-wise, but so full of inconsistencies at the same time... I really love all these things you've discovered about everyone on Skyloft! So interesting!

Wow never had seen anything about the crests in this game. Fantastic video! One of the best Zelda lore videos from any channel in a while, super original idea with a lot of supporting evidence and a cool theory about the original incarnation of link! Love it!
Wow! I wasn't expecting so much stuff with these symbols. Something I came across so many times and I haven't payed attention to holds so much possible information about these people. I loved this video! ❤️ Have a nice day!
Thank you! A lot of the time, lore is hidden in plain sight or is just brushed off as being something simple at face value, with not much meaning behind it. It's crazy how many things like this are out there in the Zelda series, just waiting to be talked about.
Very great video! I found your channel two days ago and have been watching many of your recent content since! You're doing a wonderful work! I loved this theory a lot!
I like this! We know that Link goes back in time to be the first hero that's referred to in story, BUT! There could easily have been an ancestor guarding the Temple of Time (which I think becomes the Forgotten Temple) because it's old even in the ancient past.
I played Skyward Sword back on the Wii, early on. I didnt realize the lore implications because at this time I wasnt into lore at all, it was just a Zelda game that came out on the Wii in my eyes. But dang, this game assassinated the timeline!
This is a good theory. It would probably spot on if it doesn't contradict that the Hero of the Sky is the first Link and the mythology of Hylia's Chosen Hero comes from Link's adventures in the past in defeating Demise. But there was a manga in Hyrule Historia that depicted him as being real so who really knows?
That's genuinely what I thought it was as well at first until I took a closer look at it. Either a pot or a bottle, which both would make sense given who the crest belongs to. Funny how much a little belt can cover up so much and make that big of a difference in perspective.
The Og link probably had a sibling that continued the bloodline after he died. Cuz I highly doubt he had the time to start a family during the war against Demise.
@Gossip: It will be my *Birthday* on the *20th* and I was just wondering: Could say something to me about it in your next video? I just thought I would ask.. Once again, you have delivered some more *GREAT* stuff, so here is a huge *Thank You* again from your fans - *The Gossipites!!!* ~ JonseyG 👲💖

this theory suggests skyward sword link might not really be the first hero like we’re led to believe. yeah tbh, i never really believed the first link is skyward sword link. i think he’s the first link under the curse that causes zelda and link to keep fighting ganon, but there must’ve been another hero before him in the time of hylia, right? maybe his name wasnt “link” but he was the true first hero.
sorry wait i remember zeltik had a pretty good theory that skyward sword link IS the first hero bc “time travel shenanigans” so if that was true, i guess this theory could still work?
@@graenovember Yea it's a popular theory but did Skyward Sword get a sail cloth in the past? Nope he didn't, he got it in the present so it doesn't track IMO.
Skyloft is the only chunk of land that was specifically mentioned to have been risen into the sky in the legend of Hylia's attempt to save the surface dwelling humans, but there are numerous other sky islands above the cloud barrier that we can visit. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that there are even more chunks of land elsewhere in the sky that we just haven't seen either due to distance, narrative design or technical limitations. A good hint at the existence of other people in the sky that we potentially may not know about is the question, "WHO supplies all of the shops in the Bazaar their goods?" It has to be someone, right? Someone from a different sky island most likely, seeing as how there aren't enough houses on Skyloft for the parents of the students of the Academy.
Loving this video, so far, but I need to correct a common mispronunciation because it's one of the worst for being so widespread: Mischievous = "Miss-chiv-ous" and not "Miss-chee-vee-ous".

I think you should do a part two, expand more on the temple of time and link connections throughout the games
I do feel like the Temple of Time and all of its iterations share a connection. I'll keep this idea in mind!
Very cool theory! I've been playing through Skyward sword again and it's amazing to see just how much lore is packed into this game.

Oh yeah, SS is still loaded with lore that has yet to be looked into. I'm already set on the next theory video thanks to my recent playthrough of it.
This would be evidence that the first hero was not the hero of the sky going to the past.

Ah. Before you described what Link's crest was supposed to be, I honestly thought it looked like a fancy ceramic pot with wings on either side.
The irony of Link descending from a line potterers or a bunch of whackos who were known for breaking a lot of stuff
That's genuinely what I thought it was as well at first until I took a closer look at it. Either a pot or a bottle, which both would make sense given who the crest belongs to. Funny how much a little belt can cover up so much and make that big of a difference in perspective.
