    One big issue i still have with these is most of the functionality assumes your head is always facing forwards. Particularly when turning at junctions etc, lights end up facing in different directions. I worry that the desire to keep lights (eg indicators) visible might subtly change how often you shoulder glance/look where you're turning into.

      I know exactly what you mean and I felt the same. However, that flow movement does seem to indicate the direction well, regardless of head direction. Having said that, it’s no substitute for a hand signal. I also found it useful that the lights are visible from the side so that when at a junction it is still visible, whereas front and rear won’t be.

    I have a different and probably earlier Livall Smart Helmet. It has a speaker in it as well, which is frankly not very good. It has lights on the back and indicators but I prefer to use my arm as the reality is that motorists don't expect cyclists to have indicators, and there is always the chance of an accident due to a misunderstanding. That being said, it is a good helmet and I do use the rear light when I'm on busy roads in the evening or early morning.

    A very thorough review. I'm glad you pointed out the necessary use of hand signals and not to rely on the helmet indicators alone.
    I like the look of the helmet but wouldn't necessarily want the lights.
    It's fair to say you can't make yourself too visible on a bike but for me I prefer bright coloured clothing and a bright helmet. I also wear reflective wrist bands for the turns.
    I assume the helmet comes in other colours?
    Any days out with Wendy planned? I'm hoping she's been practising her carols and taking requests.
    Thanks for the review, I always like to see what's new.

      Yes, they have a large range. I specifically asked for black to see how well the lights stood out. Wendy and I have been out a couple of times recently but tricky in these freezing temperatures. I have some footage but it’s just us chatting and I wonder if anyone is really interested in that. I strictly forbade carols until we reached December so we might squeeze in another trip before she goes on yet another holiday.

      Ohhhh carols!! Might know more than the first line of many of them!! 😁

    That looks like an extremely useful helmet. Being a trike rider, I haven't been using a helmet as there is almost no chance I'd just lose my balance and fall off. What really interests me is the various light patterns, especially the turn indicators. I am scrupulous about using hand signals but I am convinced there are some people (drivers, other cyclists, pedestrians) who don't know what the signals mean. 😮
    I would imagine hearing an unexpected voice would be a bit startling. 😊 I have a phone app that gives me audible information too but I know it's going to speak.
    Looking forward to another Roy/Wendy cycling adventure.

      Is getting a bit harder to ride at the moment as all day temperatures are currently minus 0 C 🥶🥶🥶

      @@RideWithRoy -- Brrr 🥶. At least here there's still acceptable riding weather, sunny, cold but not much below 40°F, light breeze. I'm not fond of riding in cold weather either; no cold rain, snow, heavy winds.

      We quite like riding in cold and bright weather, Linda. It’s just the ice that we arewary of.

    As you say, a ‘good thing’ or an unnecessary gadget? Ideal for maybe, city commuters (maybe) but no substitute for proper bike lights and high viz apparel. For bunch riding the rear facing lights would be a complete pain in the eyeliner … lack of a repeater in the handlebar controller is a big miss.
    Well done Roy, keep up the good work.

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I can’t see many club riders using it, but for commuters it’s a useful addition to a proper lighting setup.

    Looks a better product than the Livall helmet I had 5 years ago, the indicators on mine was different had 4 leds either side, but had speakers in the helmet which I didn't really use, prefer bone conducting headphones,

      Following my review they have arranged to send it for product certification. They seem confident the product will meet the standard, but in the meantime it’s your call. I would say if in doubt don’t buy.

    I put it down over the summer for about 9 months then when I decide to use it it won't charge. I was fully charged when I put it down

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheEquilibriumEffects I would definitely contact the manufacturer on that one. Lithium batteries are tricky like that and one thing they don’t like is being left fully charged. It’s best to store them between 20% and 80%. If I remember, I also pop my battery kit on a short charge part way through the summer to just top it up. I hope Livall is supportive and feel free to let us know how you got on.

    I bought one. It was a pain in the butt to get the bluetooth connecting. The emergency button works, but the helmet doesnt registrate a fall. So i have no idea how it will save my life when i am not awake anymore😢

      @@jasmijnariel I would get on to them for refund as that isn’t right. The test one worked perfectly so sounds like yours is faulty.

    I bought Wiggles budget version type. No indications, but 3 light modes. The wires from the battery lasted about 6 months and broke.
