Friend convinced me to play this with him. Told me the weird lenky elf people freak him out. Immediately knew id play one of them. Made the worst possible version at the maximum possible size for that permanent fear factor.
As a SMN main, I went with Au Ra male because: 1. I’m male. 2. Au Ra looks cool. 3. Since SMN channel their powers through the horns, I thought “more horns means more power.”
They breed parasitic/symbiotic bug-like kwama creatures for their eggs which are a base of their entire economy. Killing a kwama mine queen would probably result in death of an entire city due to starvation. They are disfigured and cursed by their own goddess for betrayal of her chosen by his wife and two advisors some thousand years ago. They are incredibly xenophobic, have a theocracy of living gods with an army of zealous and oppressive ordinators to back them up - who are the descendants of the aforementioned chosen betrayed and murdered by their own living gods. While technically being a part of the empire they share neither it’s laws nor religion. They even have a legal slavery, and their puppet king is murdered by the next puppet king, while even the puppeteers have no power over the province - the temple does. But makes a lot more sense than 9 divines to me, to be honest as at least they actually answer to the prayers and give out boons to the followers. While, for example, Dibella’s chosen Sybil has to devote her entire life and (probably) butt virginity to the deity whose existence if very much questionable and whose priestesses pretty much practice prostitution.
As a Male M'qote player, "the you are easily distracted by shiny things" line hit hard. I mostly picked Male M'qote because I wanted to pick something that would make me feel free and wild, also because I really didn't like Hyur but could not stand any of the other races models. I am normally more of a Halfling guy but the potato's look too silly. So Feline Himbo it was, is, and ever shall be.
Once in limsa I put out a shout looking for a sugar mommy. A lalafell asked how cute I am and gave me a mil. 10/10 best and worst players simultaneously
Most of the games he worked on had chibi-proportioned sprites, so I'd be surprised if he didnt choose one. It's the most classic FF experience when you think about it

So I never even considered NOT being a catgirl. Like they gave me that option and expected the others to be viable? No hate to non-catgirls, they're awesome. But this is my catgirl. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My catgirl is my best friend, my life. I must master her rotation as I master life.
Something I realized the other night about Mi'qote... If their ears are at the top of their heads, that means their inner ear and ear canal has to be inside the top of their skull. This leaves less room for a brain of suitable size. Just saying.
Depends. Their brain shape might be designed differently so the overall brain mass is similar. Plus the ear protrudes out an extreme amount, so the actual space it takes in the skull isn’t that much. Plus, the top of the brain is one of the least important part of the brain, comparatively speaking. The extra space opened up by not having ears on the side of the head, unless you wanna say the sides of their heads are extra armoured, also open up more connection points for the brain to the rest of the body. Especially if the motor portion of the brain is enlarged, thus explaining cat people’s extra dexterity compared to humans. Everything has an upside and downside hehe.
Brain functionality is not purely based on size. For example, crows have relatively smaller brains proportionally as compared with humans, but they have significant intellect (greater than expected with the size and mass of their brains alone). In other words, brains are not wired the same. Who can say what a Mi'qote's intelligence would be as compared to, say, a Hyur? Judging based on the fact alone that they are capable of taking on any class or job, the evidence weighs more toward an equally intelligent species.

I got so nervous about my character with how much you tore apart the earlier races. But as someone who just started playing the game and plays a female Rogadin, I was pleasantly surprised.
First-time MMO player, picked Male Duskwight Elezen and built their backstory as I went along and deep dived into world lore. Called OUT on that part--but I'm stayin course when Endwalker hits. Something about choosing the dopiest possible face options in character creator then seeing this fella develop into a Warrior of Light and Darkness gives me too much pride to ever switch off. ....That and I have glams that hide the neck. ...and yes I do have a benchmark Viera saved for an alt. I'm only human.
What I love about this and your Scholar video is you avoid the obvious low hanging fruit on the tree that you could've picked for jokes and instead levelled the entire forest and set it on fire. Female Au Ra got targeted with a fucking drone strike holy shit.
Male elezen here. It's not so bad. Just don't wear anything with a low neckline, and play a job with a cool run animation to cover the default (RDM here) and you're set. They look decent in almost any gear, can pull off the melee or caster look equally well, and it's kinda refreshing to play a game where the elf-type isn't 75% of the playerbase. I may not be able to pull off 'elf-lord out of Tolkien' or 'badass anime character', so much as 'drow Matt Mercer', but you know what? It works.
You can totally pull off a Tolkien look if you try hard enough. People are just not inspired enough to do anything other than streetwear lanky guys from my experience. I am biased as an Elezen DRK main, but you can totally reach standout looks that make Estinien look like a rat in comparison.

I also have an alt hyur and I don't like her "girly running" (telling You as a girl lol) so I bettter changed to NIN. Main male elezen since the start, he was My first character and ended endwalker with him, good taste isn't for everyone, I Guess.
Fem Elezen here (as you can probably tell from my pfp) and I love it. I started the game as an Elezen and finished Endwalker as an Elezen. 😊 I have fantasia'd her into other races and all, but she always ends up going back to Elezen. I've made her look good as other races, Au'ra being a close second, but she'll always be an Elezen. (And in my headcanon, she's also from a noble or high ranking family in Gridania so even better that the poses match the Regal appearance. 🤣)

Yeah pretty much the same here. Loved Viera in FF12 and the limited lore about male viera just made them sound like commando badasses. Was a no brainer for me to switch to them since my go to default has been male midlander since launch, lacking anything more interesting until now...

I only get annoyed when people project a certain stereotype onto a player because of preconceptions surrounding their race/gender choice. As a female elezen, maybe it just happened to me but the amount of ppl that wants to ERP with my "tall elezen mommy" is out of this world. I do go in venues often and get stopped by people here and there that tells me how pretty my elezen is so maybe the venues are the reason why I have so many ppl wanting a ERP session ( that I refuse, lord have mercy)

Femroe player here. I had never heard the whole "mommy" thing until then. Now. I hear it at least once a week. ... I'm not sure how to feel about it, honestly. But I roleplay a more villainous character, so "mommy" quickly turns to "step on me".
Highlander male here, chose it for two simple reasons: 1). It actually reaches my height 2). In a game where most characters are very aesthetically pleasing, I think it's kinda funny that my WoL is more average looking.
As a male lalafell player who plays more often with other lala players, male and female, or nearly in between with how they glam themselves, irl and in-game (for both), I can corroborate this information.

Tbh I think I have been almost every female race so far IG but I always go back to Miqote for simple facts: Their height is perfect, most hairstyles fit them and most glams look amazing on them. My first and actual character is female Au Ra. I didn't noticed that height slider had numbers so I ended up with a dragon girl who is slightly highter than lalafel. I ended up spending my fantasia potion just to change height
Nothing like feeling called out for playing a Bunny girl only to validate those words when the male Veria came on screen and my thoughts went "Ah yes my favorite boys breedable. They must be oppressed." Everything she said was true i can run from it no longer.
It's true I might not be as handsome as Aymeric (but no one is, let's be real), but I'm tbh pretty happy with my Male Elezen. Sure, the emotes are trash, half the expressions suck...but when my soft healer smiles in cutscenes...agh, my heart. It's all worth it.
I've never seen a bad elezen player. They usually hardcore raiders, always BiS, master crafter, only play 4 hours a day yet for some reason max out every jobs and has tons of achievement. So I suppose competent people always go with elezen because they are smart enough to not play as miqote or hyur.
This is just confirmation bias. Here on Aether we have a lot useless elezen, particularly the males. They just stand there looking like some "Fernando, the latin lover" going after the first female character they see.

So the image I have for elezens are they are good players because I haven't found any limsa afk-ers crappy players who are elezens so far. They are so rare here in Gaia and not many people play them and there are more good players than bad players here in my DC so with elezens population already being so small the chance to have good elezen players is higher than bad elezen players.

In fact, I avoided the train station altogether and fantasia'd into a catboy instead. And I am so glad for this decision because he is GORGEOUS and it's a joy to watch him in cutscenes :D

I basically just wanted to make myself with some tweaks to make her not too boring. As a Male Midlander Hyur, my aspiration is to be so unremarkable in a sea of catgirls and bunny bois that I loop round to being unique. It also kinda helps with immersion in the story tbh. I couldn't take SHB seriously if I was a cat boy.
that's kinda why I went with it- started out as an au ra female, but I quickly caught on to how immersive the game was, and felt compelled to switch to an appearance that was more in-line with how I self-identify.
I'm playing as cute catgirl because i'm compensating for not being a cute catgirl in real life... Also I like doing lore-friendly glams and it somewhat maintains "seriousness" of my character in cutscenes and stuff, enough to feel like I am my character to some degree, feel myself as part of the story. But seeing some of the skimpy outfit lovers breaks immersion and aesthetics a bit for me. Also i'm getting nausea from seeing 2b pants at this point. Good vid as always, EDUCATIONAL. Same here. I find myself mostly using the artifact gear as my glam. Was recently just wearing a full set of steel plate for the lower levels a NG+ run of ARR even.
I play a catgirl, because I like looking at cute catgirls. I also like her wearing clothing that actually work as clothing, so I tend to have her wear sundresses or armor sets. *shrugs*
As a female X'aela player I played it for the elegant yet fatal aesthetic. I was one of the most whiny kids alive growing up but I am extremely distanced from that. However... Maybe you are right. Maybe the trauma of being a whiny wretch never left me. A part from that there are other things. Upon reaching level 80 someone said I was flat. Turns out even with maximum boob size I am forever flat, so I guess I am aerodynamic now. As well as that, in the endgame using extreme kindness and my aesthetic I end up getting simp squads. If I make a mistake the simps and white knights will defend. I've gotten through savage raids because I'm the "heart of the party" I've become the good luck charm and in turn got best in slot gear. What hurts me the most though with X'aela is I picked it because it reminded me of a character from some writing. I'm also forced to roll reaper due to this when it's out. Not playing it because it's cool, but because of a sense of duty. Overall the video itself is flawless. 10/10 you have a sub. Keep making more content
the catgirls single handedly insure that Yoshi P can NEVER be questioned in Square Enix. Others want to mess with this game- bring in all the vile and degenerate monetization practices that have overrun other MMOs. And when they try to bring it up in board meetings, Yoshi P just says "Oh, I'm sorry. But my game is single handedly funding every single project the rest of you are working on. So maybe you just leave this to me, ok?"
To be honest. I like the lalafell because they remind me of palom and porum. Also I always assumed squeenix was trying to make their elves more amazonian. But now that it's been pointed out. It does really clash with the still royal demeanor they were given.
I started my journey as a bunny girl a few months ago now and every day ive seen some new emote or fashion for a different race and i just get mad at how unexpressive the bunny race is. But this vid made me hate my emotes alot less so thanks for that. Love my character model, learning to love the female viera stoic personality they have. XD

I'm still the only visibly duskwight elezen player Ive seen.
They breed parasitic/symbiotic bug-like kwama creatures for their eggs which are a base of their entire economy. Killing a kwama mine queen would probably result in death of an entire city due to starvation.
They are disfigured and cursed by their own goddess for betrayal of her chosen by his wife and two advisors some thousand years ago.
They are incredibly xenophobic, have a theocracy of living gods with an army of zealous and oppressive ordinators to back them up - who are the descendants of the aforementioned chosen betrayed and murdered by their own living gods. While technically being a part of the empire they share neither it’s laws nor religion. They even have a legal slavery, and their puppet king is murdered by the next puppet king, while even the puppeteers have no power over the province - the temple does.

Something I realized the other night about Mi'qote... If their ears are at the top of their heads, that means their inner ear and ear canal has to be inside the top of their skull. This leaves less room for a brain of suitable size. Just saying.
Depends. Their brain shape might be designed differently so the overall brain mass is similar. Plus the ear protrudes out an extreme amount, so the actual space it takes in the skull isn’t that much.
Plus, the top of the brain is one of the least important part of the brain, comparatively speaking. The extra space opened up by not having ears on the side of the head, unless you wanna say the sides of their heads are extra armoured, also open up more connection points for the brain to the rest of the body. Especially if the motor portion of the brain is enlarged, thus explaining cat people’s extra dexterity compared to humans.
Everything has an upside and downside hehe.

For example, crows have relatively smaller brains proportionally as compared with humans, but they have significant intellect (greater than expected with the size and mass of their brains alone). In other words, brains are not wired the same. Who can say what a Mi'qote's intelligence would be as compared to, say, a Hyur? Judging based on the fact alone that they are capable of taking on any class or job, the evidence weighs more toward an equally intelligent species.

I got so nervous about my character with how much you tore apart the earlier races. But as someone who just started playing the game and plays a female Rogadin, I was pleasantly surprised.
First-time MMO player, picked Male Duskwight Elezen and built their backstory as I went along and deep dived into world lore. Called OUT on that part--but I'm stayin course when Endwalker hits. Something about choosing the dopiest possible face options in character creator then seeing this fella develop into a Warrior of Light and Darkness gives me too much pride to ever switch off.
....That and I have glams that hide the neck.
...and yes I do have a benchmark Viera saved for an alt. I'm only human.

Male elezen here. It's not so bad. Just don't wear anything with a low neckline, and play a job with a cool run animation to cover the default (RDM here) and you're set. They look decent in almost any gear, can pull off the melee or caster look equally well, and it's kinda refreshing to play a game where the elf-type isn't 75% of the playerbase. I may not be able to pull off 'elf-lord out of Tolkien' or 'badass anime character', so much as 'drow Matt Mercer', but you know what? It works.
You can totally pull off a Tolkien look if you try hard enough. People are just not inspired enough to do anything other than streetwear lanky guys from my experience. I am biased as an Elezen DRK main, but you can totally reach standout looks that make Estinien look like a rat in comparison.

Main male elezen since the start, he was My first character and ended endwalker with him, good taste isn't for everyone, I Guess.
Fem Elezen here (as you can probably tell from my pfp) and I love it. I started the game as an Elezen and finished Endwalker as an Elezen. 😊 I have fantasia'd her into other races and all, but she always ends up going back to Elezen. I've made her look good as other races, Au'ra being a close second, but she'll always be an Elezen. (And in my headcanon, she's also from a noble or high ranking family in Gridania so even better that the poses match the Regal appearance. 🤣)

legit a straight dude who loved Viera from FF12 and just wanted to get a chance to play as a male one becasue you never see them in FF12. I honesetly feel like male viera pretty much embody the K-pop guy vibe, they all look like they are male Korean singers.
Yeah pretty much the same here. Loved Viera in FF12 and the limited lore about male viera just made them sound like commando badasses. Was a no brainer for me to switch to them since my go to default has been male midlander since launch, lacking anything more interesting until now...

I only get annoyed when people project a certain stereotype onto a player because of preconceptions surrounding their race/gender choice. It's kind of gross, to me, tbh, to judge the player for so arbitrary a decision. Obviously, if made as a joke like the video above, it's all in good fun!

I do go in venues often and get stopped by people here and there that tells me how pretty my elezen is so maybe the venues are the reason why I have so many ppl wanting a ERP session ( that I refuse, lord have mercy)

1). It actually reaches my height

As a male Miqote since 2.0, and fully planning to stay one even when male Viera are released, this is scarily accurate. Someone in my guild once told me I'm doing god's work by being a male Miqote, I didn't understand it, but after watching this video, I get it now, thanks fam.

Tbh I think I have been almost every female race so far IG but I always go back to Miqote for simple facts: Their height is perfect, most hairstyles fit them and most glams look amazing on them. Also like you did mention the lewd part.. yes.. I have some lewd outfits but as a bisexual woman I don't mind staring at my characters butt every once in a while. Oh and I may spend too much for mog station LOL DAMN IT I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED.

My first and actual character is female Au Ra. I didn't noticed that height slider had numbers so I ended up with a dragon girl who is slightly highter than lalafel. I ended up spending my fantasia potion just to change height

It's true I might not be as handsome as Aymeric (but no one is, let's be real), but I'm tbh pretty happy with my Male Elezen. Sure, the emotes are trash, half the expressions suck...but when my soft healer smiles in cutscenes...agh, my heart. It's all worth it.
I've never seen a bad elezen player. They usually hardcore raiders, always BiS, master crafter, only play 4 hours a day yet for some reason max out every jobs and has tons of achievement. So I suppose competent people always go with elezen because they are smart enough to not play as miqote or hyur.
This is just confirmation bias. Here on Aether we have a lot useless elezen, particularly the males. They just stand there looking like some "Fernando, the latin lover" going after the first female character they see.

So the image I have for elezens are they are good players because I haven't found any limsa afk-ers crappy players who are elezens so far. They are so rare here in Gaia and not many people play them and there are more good players than bad players here in my DC so with elezens population already being so small the chance to have good elezen players is higher than bad elezen players.

I'm part of those rare players who started out generic (female Hyur) and, come Endwalker, I didn't board the bun boy hype train. In fact, I avoided the train station altogether and fantasia'd into a catboy instead. And I am so glad for this decision because he is GORGEOUS and it's a joy to watch him in cutscenes :D
I picked Roedgyn because I tried for the life of me to recreate my orc from WoW. Didn't pan out so now I just rock the ponytail dreads and beard look with an eye patch.
As a fem miqo'te main who spends an unhealthy amount of time on glamour and gpose, I feel VERY exposed. Not as exposed as my sisters who wear 2B leggings and nothing else, but exposed nonetheless.

I started playing FFXIV a couple months ago, and for a while I felt like I chose the unpopular option that was the Hyur, when most of my mutuals picked the other, more interesting races. I basically just wanted to make myself with some tweaks to make her not too boring. And she is a Midlander, meaning she IS rather introverted, so thanks for calling us out 😂

As a Male Midlander Hyur, my aspiration is to be so unremarkable in a sea of catgirls and bunny bois that I loop round to being unique.
It also kinda helps with immersion in the story tbh. I couldn't take SHB seriously if I was a cat boy.
that's kinda why I went with it- started out as an au ra female, but I quickly caught on to how immersive the game was, and felt compelled to switch to an appearance that was more in-line with how I self-identify.

I'm playing as cute catgirl because i'm compensating for not being a cute catgirl in real life...
Also I like doing lore-friendly glams and it somewhat maintains "seriousness" of my character in cutscenes and stuff, enough to feel like I am my character to some degree, feel myself as part of the story.
But seeing some of the skimpy outfit lovers breaks immersion and aesthetics a bit for me. Also i'm getting nausea from seeing 2b pants at this point.

Same here. I find myself mostly using the artifact gear as my glam. Was recently just wearing a full set of steel plate for the lower levels a NG+ run of ARR even.
I play a catgirl, because I like looking at cute catgirls.
I also like her wearing clothing that actually work as clothing, so I tend to have her wear sundresses or armor sets. *shrugs*

I had a really good laugh because on female Au Ra and Elezen both you called out a friend of mine out down to the tiniest detail xD 10/10
As a female X'aela player I played it for the elegant yet fatal aesthetic. I was one of the most whiny kids alive growing up but I am extremely distanced from that. However... Maybe you are right. Maybe the trauma of being a whiny wretch never left me. A part from that there are other things. Upon reaching level 80 someone said I was flat. Turns out even with maximum boob size I am forever flat, so I guess I am aerodynamic now. As well as that, in the endgame using extreme kindness and my aesthetic I end up getting simp squads. If I make a mistake the simps and white knights will defend. I've gotten through savage raids because I'm the "heart of the party" I've become the good luck charm and in turn got best in slot gear. What hurts me the most though with X'aela is I picked it because it reminded me of a character from some writing. I'm also forced to roll reaper due to this when it's out. Not playing it because it's cool, but because of a sense of duty.
Overall the video itself is flawless. 10/10 you have a sub. Keep making more content
the catgirls single handedly insure that Yoshi P can NEVER be questioned in Square Enix.
Others want to mess with this game- bring in all the vile and degenerate monetization practices that have overrun other MMOs. And when they try to bring it up in board meetings, Yoshi P just says "Oh, I'm sorry. But my game is single handedly funding every single project the rest of you are working on. So maybe you just leave this to me, ok?"
To be honest. I like the lalafell because they remind me of palom and porum. Also I always assumed squeenix was trying to make their elves more amazonian. But now that it's been pointed out. It does really clash with the still royal demeanor they were given.
I started my journey as a bunny girl a few months ago now and every day ive seen some new emote or fashion for a different race and i just get mad at how unexpressive the bunny race is.
But this vid made me hate my emotes alot less so thanks for that. Love my character model, learning to love the female viera stoic personality they have. XD

Aether has the most organized Lalafell community of all. We have parades, parties, flash mobs, organized raids and the like. The sense of community is amazing.

i've got a male miqo'te and male highlander as my two mains and i feel SEEN because when i do a dungeon on the catboy i lead with "are y'all ready for zoomies" and then sprint through it while chainpulling like a madman, while on the highlander i'm an omnitank who's done every raid and mentors constantly
neither is getting rerolled for bunboy though. i've got a middie alt set aside for that
