    When I'm not striking the ball that well I always refer back to cogorno golf right wrist videos. They are the best.

    The best tip I've seen for a long time. I've tried so hard to get rid of a cupped left wrist and tried to keep it flat. I now know it is my right wrist that was too flat. I was also getting a flying right elbow. This has helped massively. Many thanks. 👊

      Exactly right. I used to concentrate on my left wrist and its position at the top of the swing. Not anymore. Now I just focus entirely on my right wrist, make sure it's bent all the way back, and there's no need now to even think about what my left wrist is doing.

    I like how you hit on how if you don’t hit the first few shots great keep doing it! I have seen a bunch of guys(me included) that will try something new in their swing and if they don’t dramatically improve after two swing then they can it and say it must be a bogus tip! Keep it up Eric you are awesome and your helping so many people!

    The two tips, using your dominant trail hand to focus on bending the trail wrist back, and simply setting up with the trail wrist bent, remain the two best tips I have ever seen. The lightbulb went on the first time you demonstrated them, and I use them to this day.

    Given that it is the hands that hold the club I am amazed at how little the teaching professionals concentrate on what the hands do. Dragging it inside and cupping the left wrist with subsequent falling on to back foot to let my hands and arms catch up has meant that my golf swing has relied on perfect timing and if it's a bit off then I get the classic day of blocks and snap hooks. This is a brilliant video. As a right hander I think with my right hand. It is impossible for me to think about a bowed left wrist but very easy to think about a bent right wrist in the takeaway. Great video Eric. Hitting the ball much straighter, a bit lower and a bit longer!

    This is legit golden...most people don't even think about the right wrist, and all the focus is always on keeping lead wrist bowed. Literally if you are struggling, do the practice exercise he mentioned. Start at thigh level, and bend the hell out of your right wrist. Upon impact keep that wrist bent, and with the left wrist just slightly turn it to the ball when you your also opening up your body. Perfect impact of the ball every time. You will even hear the different sound of impact right of the bat. Thank you sir.

    Great video on the right wrist in the golf swing. I was telling my son that my contact is so much better when I set the wrist early and hold through impact. I've always tried to set wrist late but if I wait to the top my left wrist is not flat and club is pointing far right of the target. I know this video is a almost a year old but will watch it several more times.

    Hi Eric, hope all’s good. I’m Steve from ‘the other side of the pond’ (ie, England), a very keen ‘student’ of all the great stuff you put out there.
    I happen to be a very ‘right-sided’ thinking/feeling player so this three video right wrist ‘compilation’ is absolutely great for me and I’m sure many other like minded fellow golfing students.
    And the ‘compilation’ idea is seriously good, if there’s particular aspect of my game I need to work on (and sadly, there far too often is.....!), these same subject multi videos make it a real ‘one-stop shop’ to get things back on track in ‘one fell swoop’.
    Thank you and please keep up the great work Eric, it really is much appreciated......

    Eric, I have had the right wrist bent back, but have worried about after contact when does it release? You video's message to Me was quit worrying about when the right wrist releases after contact and FOCUS ON TURNING THE BODY WITH THE WRIST STILL BENT IS OK. I feel a release of right wrist way after contact by just concentrating on turning the body. DO I HAVE THE RIGHT MESSAGE? GREAT VIDEO !!! Can't wait to try it out. Thanks!

    Hi Eric, great stuff here - has definitely helped with my ball striking abilities, particularly with mid & short iron. Could you possibly do a follow-up video on what the right wrist looks like with respect to the type of club & ball position in the stance? I'd really like to see how how you would expect the right wrist to release on longer irons, woods & driver since the ball is typically positioned further forward. Is it possible to maintain that strong forward shaft lean even with those clubs?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tony!
      Perhaps more on that in a future video.
      If you have less speed you want more throw and sooner
      .....more speed less throw and later.
      Same principles for longer clubs....

    Hi Eric, I appreciate all of your video’s and commentary that goes along with them. This compilation on the use of both the left and right wrist is outstanding. The question I have is this: does this apply to all golf shots, long full shots as well as shorter chips and pitches?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Rene!
      I would say it applies well for most all long shots.
      It does not apply as much with the chipping/pitching
      I would prefer the face to not be tilted down as much there

    Hey Eric today was the first day I could try your right wrist move with it bent back. When I added the right thumb up with the right wrist back I really started hitting it flush and started feeling the right thumb working around through impact. Could you explain what Dynamics are happening to the club with the right thumb working up with the right wrist back

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rickie!
      Glad to hear that!
      The thump working upon adds hinge (radial deviation). That makes the angle between the club and your lead arm smaller. All else equal that would help add downwind angle of attack and speed.
      Of course I would have to see YOUR motion to see how you hinge and what you would or wouldn't need to do but thats a general statement
      If you search my name and "wrists" you should find some more info to help!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      William!
      I would say the BACKSWING right wrist movements would apply to all clubs
      The downswing MAY....or MAY NOT.....that really depends on your speed.
      Less clubhead speed the more you want to throw right wrist to get enough loft to hit it high enough
      IF you have more speed you can keep it bent back longer

    I know I’m supposed to keep my right wrist bent back at impact but with a full swing, it always straightens no matter how hard I try. I guess this is from years of casting. Any drills or tips to keep it bent? I even have the power clicker and I hear it clicking at impact every time! @Eric Cogorno Golf

      Yeah sounds like you have an issue earlier on in the swing that is CAUSING that right wrist throw.
      Could be steep shaft, open club face, early extension, etc
      I would need to see on video
      check out www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted so we can see your swing, identify root issue and help fix

    Thanks for this video Eric. I've struggled with rolling the wrists in the takeaway and getting the club inside, then lifting the arms. After seeing this video I've worked for the last few days on feeling the trail wrist extension and palm down in the backswing and it's made a huge difference for me. Just looking at my swing in the mirror at club parallel to ground was an eye-opener - the clubface actually matches my spine angle, and now I know what that feels like. I hit balls today and had noticeably higher swing speed and distance with my irons and driver. I've been struggling to get it over 100 mph SS with the driver and today I was consistently at 105 with a few up at 108 and 109. I've tried a lot of backswing thoughts/feels to stop rolling it inside, but the trail wrist hinge and palm down feeling seems to work for me. It's helped me to swing shorter (and stop the arms when the shoulder turn stops) as well. Thanks!

    Eric - good stuff on the right wrist. My question is which wrist (if any) provides power to the swing thru impact? Tiger Woods says his "right arm and hand power his swing, even more now than when he was younger". He also appears to be pulling the right elbow more forcefully into his right side on the downswing than he used to. Could you do a video on just this part of the swing - how to provide max clubhead speed and which arm/hand does it? I used to think most pro golfers pull more with their lead left arm, but after analzying slow motion swings it appears most are powering with right arm & hand more than the left thru impact.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tom!
      Unfortunately there is no correct answer to that question.
      No one wrist provides the power. They both do,
      What someone FEELS could be anything. Some people feel more RIGHT, some more LEFT. Both work.

  • @jasontroutman9845

    Does the wrist bend from being loose and relaxed and the force from the swing bends it back naturally or do you make an effort to bend it back? Haven’t had time to try this on the range but seems like you would lose speed when not keeping wrists loose and relaxed.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally it happens naturally.
      But if it doesn't YOU have to make an effort.

    What happens if you don’t have much wrist motion due to an injury? I had a surgery called Proximal row carpectomy and it’s limited the motion I have in my right wrist and I’m right handed.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can't extend the trail wrist that will make it difficult to lower the loft and close the club face.
      With that I would start by making the grip turned much stronger.....grip and wrist angles here:

    Ben Hogan said he pushed through his downswing with his ' three trail hands' all the way to the finish. On the other hand Moe Norman said the downswing through to finish is a pull with the lead hand. Both works well separately; but because pushes and pulls are equal; only one of the two moves can me distinguish by our brain at any given time. Cheers

      Eric Cogorno Golf when we move a wheelbarrow forward we are actually pushing it forward with equal power from both hands are we not?. When we pull back the wheelbarrow would you agree we are pulling back with both hand? This is because our hands and arms are spaced separate from one another so moving a wheelbarrow back and the forth require both our hands to pull back or push forward together equally
      A golf swings is another matter since our hands coverages together as one on the grip of a golf club. Because of this we can either feel one hand pull or the other push; either on the golf backswing or forward swing. If we try to push back with equal power from both hands or pull forward with equal power from both hands the golf swing is not successful. Would you agree?
      Personally I like now to pull back with my trail hand on the backswing and then push forward with my trail hand on my golf downswing; allowing my lead hand to respond passively and yet equally in its pulling motion which I personally cannot feel. Hope I maid myself clear. Thanks

    Eric , this IS the Secret to golf swing that no one talks about because it’s too simple ! Watch Tiger ‘s backswing, it looks like he sweeps the club back , what Hogan did ! What he’s doing is simply starting a throwing motion w / the right forefinger , second finger and less important , the thumb and then continue to bend the wrist back and then sweep it forward on the downswing ! Practice throwing a golf ball or a weighted golf grip filled w/ lead shot and taped at each end and see where they hit the ground at speed going forward ! The “ SECRET “ !

      Addendum : watched this three times or more ,went outside & hit w / driver ( always thought it you get a move w / it , the rest is a piece of cake ) ,realized that I was making the throwing motion w/ right palm not quite palm down and thus not quite palm facing away as you showed ! That’s it ! I got it ! Think Ryan Palmer or from the past, Mark Mc Cumber . Swing away like you have a large paint brush in the right hand and paint a red stripe directly away from the ball ! (Always had a fear of going back shut, so what , it’s not !) John
