  • Gathered clips of breaking in my nitro engine and put together a how to break-in a nitro engine video
    I used the special break-in bones brew blend but you can use this method with any brand that has a good oil content
    I’d stay away from the traxxas fuel anyone will tell you that fuel is no good
    Thanks for watching

    Im glad you are showing others how to do the break in process properly, Ive been critisized for not doing one tank on the bench and then running the car on the ground at quarter throttle for the second tank and then half throttle for the third tank then 3/4 throttle for the fourth and then up to full throttle for the 5th.
    I learnt how to break in Glow engines with OS aircraft engines and back in the day you started them on a bench mount with a small propellor so as to not load the engine up while running them in, expensive engine or not it deserves to be broken in slowley if you want it to last and I believe that loading it up to soon will shorten the life of the engine.

    Yes, the Pre Heating is SO important on a new Nitro engine! People dont realize how tight a new motor is ... and by heating it, its allows the cylinder to expand and decrease the stress on the motor! I do this method almost exactly ... the only difference being, i leave my glow plug a half turn loose on break in start ups! I find it helps drop compression just a bit by allowing some pressure to escape, making it easier on the rod. After that puppy starts up and is running all good, i just snug the plug up!

    Great video on break in. Usually, if the rpm’s rise while idling and the temps start going down (idling and driving round) without changing the tune, that’s a pretty good sign that the pinch is loosening up and everything is breaking in nicely.

    Nice video man. Just one question: When you heat the engine to 220 - 240 does the temp reading at the cooling head have to be the same as the reading when temping the block? Usually I notice there is about 20f difference between the two spots. I find myself having to heat my engine alot with a heat gun just to get the block to read ~220f. This is where I am a bit confused and worrying that I am heating up my engine too much and can possibly damage it. Most videos I see they only temp at the top of the cooling head and go based of that reading.

    • @weekendrc
      @weekendrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It don’t have to be the same as long as you can get the block to 200f -220f, I try to keep the entire engine in the 200 degrees temperature it don’t have to be the same temp the cooling head as the block hope this helps you I’d say 260 is to hot for cooling head or block so keep them under that temp

    • @weekendrc
      @weekendrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For example say your cooling head is at 220f and the block is at like 190f I would get the block to at least 200 - 210f and just keep checking temps keep them around the 200- 240f degrees

    I have all the heat guns all the stuff tools and all that starters starter boxes all that heat guns temperature gauges just don't know how to do it anymore I'll start it up and then all the sudden goes rpm goes up then I Panky Because I don't want to burn the engine out and it's new I don't want to give up but way too much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if you were come over here you would slap me in the face!!!!! • @kevbelanger1179
    @kevbelanger1179 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do not understand using a heat gun. It’s so unnatural and completely backwards of a process. Heating from the outside inward, instead of from the center of the engine, outward. Also, pinching the exhaust sends a pulse wave of fuel back into the engine. Better to pinch the fuel line and keep pinching the line while trying to re start, burning out the remaining fuel in the engine

    • @weekendrc
      @weekendrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my understanding pre heating the engine will extend the life of the engine its highly recommended to do so, but you don’t have to just send it lol

      I'm going to retract my statement having had 2 years to really study and further my knowledge of the hobby. this statement was made with out any real understanding, and only a year of self taught operation and handling of the mechanics behind "breaking in" an engine. and when you get to the caliber of running expensive engines from Nova, O.S. or Reds (to name a few), the investment is something you want to prolong and maintain for as long as possible.

      Get a quart of bones break in fuel and just idle the entire quart and keep temperature to 200 230 degrees and stop engine before it runs out of fuel completely on each tank
