If you ever have a nitro engine with such a tight pinch on it and it still doesn't want to crank over even after you heat it up, loosen the glow plug just a tiny bit to release the pressure..👍
I do this before even giving the engine a chance to get stuck at TDC, it’s just a really good idea to help relieve stress on the engine that is new. Just make sure to tighten it back each time and you’re good to go. This was a very good point to bring up.

I know this is an older video, but I appreciate you taking the time to make it & explain this daunting process to people like me out there lol. I just bought my 1st nitro buggy, a Losi 8ight with the .21 Dynamite engine. Comes in tomorrow and this break-in process has been giving me butterflies in my belly lol. Specially since there seems to be so many different ways that people seem to be using. The manual for this buggy is very vague but makes it a point to tell you it's very critical.... Thanks Losi!! 🤦♂️ I been riding electric for about 2yrs now & I really want the experience of nitro. I'm really hoping that I don't screw this up. Thanks again! 😎👍
Here's a suggestion. I run a hose from my exhaust into a glass jar. Not only does it keep the ground clean, you can collect the residue and see the consistency of it and the colour.
Is it always high speed needle needs richened if it's not spitting fuel or smoking or do you need to richen low speed as well I've been running nitro/electric for years but finally actually trying to learn fine tuning and break in skills
I really enjoy your videos! Thumbs up from the 🇬🇧 i get my engines run in using a company that uses the oil bath method. All i do then is 2 tanks 80% tune then race tune. Engines last really well this way i have found in my experience.
I recently write a long comment about how my engine had sat for so long, I got it spinning freely, the starter (electric, Traxxas) was functioning but the glow plug wasn’t lighting up. I found the wire at the glow plug was really beginning to become uncovered and peeling off the rubber coat. I wrapped a small amount of electric tape around it, Boom! The light came on. It still wouldn’t spin. Then I wrote another letter/comment about that, tried a couple times, and Boom again! It began to spin! And eventually running at really high idle speed. So I turned the idle screw down a good bit, and it stayed idling for a few minutes. Then I began to see fuel coming out of the glow plug hole, that started to smoke a lot. I shut it down, tightened the plug a bit, not too tight, and started it again. This time it was tricky. And soon I learned after seeing Chunks of old fuel that had been in the one place I didn’t clean. The damn carburetor. I’ve already ordered a new one, and while I wait for new plugs, a new carb, a new tool set, I’m praying that I didn’t damage the piston sleeve when the funk came through it somehow. It would’ve had to be hot and soft enough to get to the top so I should be ok. But I’m praying anyway. I should’ve cleaned the damn carb.
One of the guys in our little group my dad has uses the OS Adam drake engine and he said it was very tight even after preheating it. After seeing the first start up, I now understand how tight his engine was

So in a few days I'm going to get a T Maxx 3.3 and get a nitro under my belt. What is your opinion on 20% Traxxas fuel and what fuel would you recommend for the old but rebuild os .12?

How about a tutorial on how to start an engine that has been sitting for a long time, I have an ancient Savage with a big bore motor that has been sitting six plus years, also any ideas of getting wheels off that have spun on the hex and will not release.
If your engine has been sitting for years, this is what you need to do. There's no shortcuts here. Take the carb off, the cooling head off, and the back plate off. Let the block and rotating assembly soak in nitro fuel with a lot of oil in it for 24 hours. I always save my stale fuel for such jobs. Then take the rotating assembly apart and rinse everything out with gasoline mixed 4-1 gas-castor oil. Take your carb needles out and rise the carb and its part with the same gasoline mix. Dry everything off, lube bearings etc. put it back together with new seals if needed, and you're good to go. Note that the castor oil is crucial in the gasoline! You WILL damage your orings and seals if you use straight gasoline.
Ideally you wanna go higher than that. Probably around 220°F that’ll make the engine easier to start and it’ll probably drop down to around 200°F once the fuel is running through the engine. The main thing is to keep it above 190°-200°F when running it during break in
Yeah, there’s actually a guy who does an oil break in for you at a reasonable price. He has some type of machine that I’ve no idea how or what it does, but he charges about $40-$45 for a perfect break in. Next engine I am gonna try it.
Never seen you take a temp on 1st two tanks on idle. Seen you had the head wrapped like cold weather running but said it's 80° outside. What temp do you go to on these 1st two tanks and why wrap the head in warm weather with no airflow? I understand you are doing this to achieve your temp, but what is it for this important step.
