Oops 😬 I messed up on my editing, guess I better start previewing before upload 😮
Hahaha I thought it was a little strange lol I thought you were a government robot for a moment haha jk
Don victory 😮😂 That was funny
Those are a waste of money. Use vinyl scraps. 1 2" piece . overlap a 4" piece over lap a 6" piece. tackstrip with z-bar. there you are built up 1/4 inch. use two thick vinyl pieces for 2" and the 4" use a thinner piece for the last one. You figure this out its faster, its cheaper. You can fine tune the crap out of it. Vinyl scraps are valuable where I work.
Can you do the tuck and glue trick with low pile carpet like Anderson Tuftex? I'm worried about having enough pile to cover the gap.
Absolutely, I even do it on thin commercial carpet. You can use latex in the gully any time.
Nice job. Good explanation.
Josh Nolan Thank you sir
How much are carpet shims? Like 20 for 3-5 pieces. We have always used tack strip method
Christian Wilson Honestly I don’t know, I put a link in the description for some but I have never used them from Amazon before, I think that tools for Flooring has some, I don’t really bad about checking the prices for stuff, I usually just get stuff if I need it without looking at the price , My wife gets onto me about that too
Christian Wilson when I was in Tucson I would charge the customer $15 per shim and that would cover the cost of the shim plus a few dollars to put it down, And I was actually thinking about doing a couple more different methods of this same thing such as double tack strip and so on
Christian Wilson Tools for Flooring Has a big variety of them ranging from $3.80 up to like $10 apiece, depending on what size you get, I’m glad you asked that because I didn’t know there was such a variety of them out there
I always use vinyl scraps build up a ramp to tile. cut the first one about 8 inches second one about 4 in and the last layer about 2 inches. kind of stair stepping it up.
+Jasson Caza Right, that’s a great idea
Thanks so much for this video. My bathroom contractor ended up putting the new tile 1 whole inch above the outside carpet. We used traxx supershims to get there and this video gave me the confidence to do it myself after carpet repair people wanted $1k+ to shim it. Knees are a little sore but I'm very surprised how well this worked.
Wow, very well done. Just had some carpet installed and I asked about a transition to our bathroom like that. Installer just said there's not much he can do about the lip since it was higher than normal and left the job like that. Now we have a tripping hazard and it's very uncomfortable to walk over. I'm going to have them come back and fix it with a carpet shim. Great informative video. Thank you.
There you go, that’s the right way to do it
How far from the edge of the tile should the tack strip be?
About 3/16 of an inch
I have always double tack strip in front of tile and put single tack behind the double tack. Pad on top the first tackstrip to the double. Looks the same
Jerrid Hawkins Yep I did that too for a lot of years, I’ve just discovered these about five years ago I guess
So double tack strip in front of the tile and then put another tack strip on top of the pad right next to?
Carpet shims are great if the store charges for them. I'm not providing carpet shims on all these jobs with raised tiles. It's not my floor.
In this situation with raised tile, is it best to just leave the tile edge or would adding a Schluter metal edge be better to butt the carpet up against? Or would either way be fine?
Thank you.. this is really helpful 🤗
I’m going to be tiling my hallway so I need to transition to 3 bedrooms with carpet. This video came at a good time and answered a lot of questions that I had. Thanks Ruben, you’re the man.
teh60 Awesome, glad it helped I hope your job turns out awesome
You should use a tile trim, looks better and it's what it's made for
Gabe pastel Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, appreciate it
@@gabepastel3447what do you mean? Where would the tile trim go?
THANK YOU FOR THIS.. For someone new to the industry, these types of videos really help me ..
Awesome, glad to help
cedar shakes can work too in a pinch. can also round edges
would be nice to know the size of the spacing between the tack strip and the tile. Is that 1/4"?
That’s going to depend on the carpet, most the time a quarter inch may even A little less. Depends on the thickness of the carpet
Thanks for doing this. I have existing carpet coming into a bathroom doorway. I put a Dricore subfloor in the bathroom so it is elevated more than the carpet. This really helps me visualize how to finish it off. Great channel. Your efforts are appreciated.
Thank you, glad to help
Any trick to fix if you cut your carpet flush by mistake?
You can stretch it back up with a knee kicker
@@FloorsbySouthernboys thanks! Does the height of the tack strip need to be the same/flush to the height of the tile floor? Or does it need to be a bit lower?
@@ychongy Just a little lower would be better
Should of at least mini power stretched the passage. It's a traffic way.
It was enough to last, this was in my own house and it is still nice and wrinkle free , Thank you though it is definitely a good idea to always get a power stretch On hallways
Amazing video. Will be attempting this tomorrow. Thanks a ton!!
You’re welcome
I've only been installing for about 3 half yrs. I didn't even know they had carpet ramps! Thx FBSB! Cause I've come across this problem before.
Tom.S 80s Awesome, glad it was helpful
👍🏻 have you ever seen same type shims but in rubber? I’ve used em all. Years back I even used the single packs, where it took 2 1/2- 3 packs to do a 32 inch door. I also use tri tack tackstrip on bottom and regular tackstrip on top but it’s not as smooth of transition on some carpets. Well done.
CarpetMan 😮 no sir I have not seen the rubber ones, I have heard people talk about them but never seen them
Nice work, beets using undercoarse shingles.wish I could use a hammer that fast.lol.hows the hook needle and thread coming along?
russ sherry Haven’t had a chance yet to get to use it
Well done! Excellent instructions. Now I'm ready to go tackle my project. Thanks for taking the time.
Nate Cameron You’re welcome, good luck my friend
can you imagine if you could hammer that fast in real life :) great video exactly what I need for a particular job
😀👍
I'm glad I found this. I am about to rip out carpet in a bathroom and install tile but was worried about the lip from the subfloor. Now I know what to do. Thank you.
Neil K Walk Cool, good luck buddy
Thanks you for the tip ,just finished my tile floor and I was not sure how to transition but your video sloved the problem thanks again.
Rene Fabery awesome
Great video. It would have helped to see a view of the tile edge before the carpet shim install, but it was still full of great straight forward information.
Sorry about that, But I’m glad you liked it anyway
Thank you profusely for sharing your knowledge. Our handyman and I were scratching our heads on how to do this and now we know.
😀👍
I'm thinking of getting a pair of those crain tack strip cutters they look really cool but are a bit expensive, be awesome if you could do a short video on them and why you use them. Thanks
sausage man sure thing 👍
@@FloorsbySouthernboys plus I've seen they take blades as well I'd like to know how long they last as well thank you
sausage man You got it Dave
@@FloorsbySouthernboys have you done that video on the gripper cutters yet😁
sausage man no not yet
Wouldn't you also want to do the side double taper shims on the end so there is no fall off on the sides?
If you wanted
I literally just did that. Used a pinned track and T cap. That's pretty though.
Matt Veldkamp That’s awesome, thank you for watching and thank you for your comment
That's a nice job. All way learning something. Keep them coming.
Jose Carcano Thank you sir I appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching
Hey Brother, fantastic video! My tile height with self-leveling is over 1" up so I guess i can use the carpet shim as a true shim and stack them? Great video man!! Life saver!!
Thanks a bunch for making this video, I can see you do excellent work, with attention to detail. Our remodel contractor put in a new tile bathroom floor with a 3/8 underlayment, which brought the floors up from the original height, needless to say I am less than thrilled about the transition now from carpet to tile. I was wondering if someone made a shim/ramp and now I know. I will go back to the contractor and let them know this is the solution. Thanks for the great info.
Do you know where you can buy those shims? The current link you have shows the product as unavailable.
I didn’t know about a trimmer. I always have used my knife. 😮
Corey & Becca Thibodaux The carpet trimmer has a huge timesaver, it takes a little bit to get the hang of it but when you do it’s awesome
If you cut it way short with the trimmer trimax stretcher will fix it lol
Christian Wilson 😮
Great demonstration, I use those cpt shims all the time!
shawn moore thank you Sir, I’ve got to using these while I was in Tucson
Good info. Between the self leveler and the very thick tile that I used in the master bath, I was wondering how to make the carpet to tile transition look right. Carpet shims. I learned something new today.
Thank you for all the tips!
😀👍
Very cool! Thanks
Joaquin Chea 👍
Amazing thank you 🙏🏼
Well done!
Thank you I appreciate that
Thanks!
👍
Great lesson
Thank you!
The trimmer is for baseboards not tucking to tile or
Hardwood
Wtf that’s so expensive and not very pretty
🤣
Thank you so much!!!
