Great video! It shows quality work and why the details do matter. I can already see what's wrong with the carpet transition in my home. (Why I'm here learning in the first place)
Fellow flooring installer to another - Thanks for the tack tips! I'm hard surface only and I kind of knew this, but your explanation as you were doing it helped solidify some of my thoughts on it! Thanks FIA FAM!
Nice informative video Reuben. Good tip with the extra piece of pad too. I've seen many jobs done where you can see the void in the corner. It only takes a second extra to do it right..good job!!
Great helpful video. I would use a 2x wraped with the cerpet to use for the hammer to hit instead of taping or beating the stapples down, I use the wood wrapped in carpet to help protect the new carpet and tile or linoleum surfaces.
I have concrete underneath my pad and carpet. Can I staple into my concrete? I don't know whether to use the Z-bar method or staple method. I'm a 74 yr. old grandma doing this by myself. Thanks for your help and another great video.
That's a great edge, we recently had linoleum installed and they wouldn't do a tuck under on my carpet where it meets they wanted to put in metal strip across it and I didn't want that. What I'm looking for is what is the name of the metal piece that had nails on it and you would hook it to the edge of the carpet and flip it around and then hit it with a hammer to finish off that edge I can't seem to find that anywhere?
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I rarely come across carpet to vinyl transitions over here. If I do there is usually a gripper metal. I try to avoid z bar at all costs so I really like this method. Would be nice to be able to do it on concrete.
If we had to pull up in edge, to replace the linoleum, do we have to re-stretch it before we staple? I had to pull up 5’ of a 10’ fold n staple but no other part of the room was removed. Thanks
This is the only video I've seen of an L type transition. Thanks! If i have a concrete floor do I use a zbar and a tackstrip? A tackstrip across areas this wide seems like a good way to step on them... What do you recommend?
doing my own vinyl flooring part.... so do I just end the vinyl exactly where I want the carpet to transition? No need to leave an overlap of half inch or anything? thank you!!
Excellent video Reuben, great tip for the newbie. most of the time I like to use some tack strip about an inch away from the vinyl to help keep a nice straight line and keep a tight stretch then turn and tack. no need for the pad to to fill the gap. Then of course I go with z bar when installing over concrete. Keep the awesome videos coming !
Binge-watching your videos. Very informative! Can you please show us the technique to fasten carpet under the stair nose, when carpeting only the treads, and leaving the risers bare?
Can you do this method of carpet to LVT that is on basement-concrete floor? would it be best to install wood tack strip first then apply this turn and tack method?
How do you transition a right angle of carpet around the lvt? I don’t see how that high traffic corner where Lvt ends and the carpet wraps is finished.
For the turn and tack method, there is an easy way to create a straight fold. Using a pencil, lace a few dots on the carpet backing exactly where you want the fold to be. Now flop the carpet back and lay your straight edge along the marks that you made. Run your stair tool back and forth on the carpet backing lightly. Hard enough to weaken the backing a little, but not hard enough to cut or damage it. The carpet will now have a 'natural' fold in it ant it takes very little effort to keep the edge straight.
I have the Smartpro vinyl (wood look) flooring. I have a T-moulding to transition from vinyl to kitchen (stick on 12 x 12 vinyl squares). That was fine. However, the Reducer piece has a slightly different shape, but is essentially the same as the T-Moulding. Am I correct in having the slightly higher side on the reducer strip toward my bedroom carpet (I am sure this is probably a "stupid" question.). And, do I glue and use a couple screws to attach the "channel" to the floor, then have the carpet "butt up" against the higher side of the Reducer strip?
Amber Orm yes you do want to screw your channel down to the floor, and the thicker part of your reducer transition will go to your carpet however your carpet will not go under it, once you have your reducer installed then you can use a Z-bar to finish off your carpet to your reducer , Here is a video showing you how to use Z-bar , Good luck and I hope everything turns out well. th-cam.com/video/jQCeZyy7Nmo/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful video. Regarding the staples you use, I believe you said you use 5010D's. I went on Amazon to see these. I'm not sure I found the right ones. Are these a wide crown or narrow crown? Are these 5/16 in length? That seemed a bit short for a rollover and tack, but I just don't know. Any thoughts or links are appreciated.
